Put our second Halibut in the boat Saturday and it was the Just for the Halibut Derby winner! A fat shorty well under the 125cm limit that weight 61.1 pounds. Salmons closed here in Victoria until July 15th so we'll be out lots.

Hope everyone is doing well!

We will be going out of Seward, AK this weekend for some halibuts. It seems to be a good problem to run out of deck space when you get a couple on board.

Any luck? Would love to see some Alaskan fishing and general pictures. Might inspire me to pull the trigger on a new trailer to go up that way.

I went to Doc Warner's in Excursion Inlet not far from Gustavus last year. Great trip and all three of us on our boat brought home 100 pounds of halibut fillets caught on five days of fishing. We could have caught more weight of fish but it took a day or two to figure out how to self-guide. Not sure I would tow a boat to Alaska just to fish, lot of work and cost. It was about $4000 each all in for a full week of vacation and they provided everything you needed including a Stabicraft boat that was just the best, I never felt nervous even 40 miles out on a rough day and that is in an open 18 foot boat! Not sure where you would put the 100 plus pound fish we caught in the cockpit of a C22! We where allowed six halibut a day and we boated six every day. If the salmon are running, that would have been 18 more fish!! Plus rock fish and other good things. Major fun.
