2010 60 hp suzuki

the 2010 redesigned 60 hp suzuki weight is less than the 50 and 40 Hp suzuki AND about 20 lbs less than the yamaha and a bit more narrow.

So my question is the 60 hp to much for 16 angler?

I beleive the boat is rated for 55 horsepower, so the 60 should be okay.

The next generation Suzuki 40/50 will be built on the same platform as the 60.
 
Tom, I've been waffling between the Yamaha 50/60 and the Suzuki 60 to re-power my newly renamed acquisition, and the weights you quote just don't jibe.

The Yamaha weighs 237 lbs
The Suzuki weighs 229 lbs

That's an 8 lb difference, not enough to get excited over. the problem is determining how they were both weighed and with what accessories or, for that matter, oil full or empty as shipped? Equal isn't always "equal" in the marketing world.

I'd trust a dealer who carries both brands and weighed them objectively before I'd trust a Corporate marketing angel.

I think I confused the mecury 60 weight listed at 247 for the yamaha. 237 is correct for the yama as you noted.

Lots of yamaha engines in this area but the guys with suzuki really speak highly of their performance. The suzuki does appear to be more naarrow which is a good thing on the little 16 especially with a kicker.
 
I have had 4 Yamaha engines (2 50HP, 1 9.9HP and 1 25HP all 4 stroke) on the various boats I have had. Some of those engines replaced OMC engines that came with the boat and I re-engined them. I love the Yamahas. I have found dealer support to be great, parts easy to find, very reliable, I love the freshwater flush port that doesn't require running with mouse ears. I don't think I would ever have an OMC. The Coast Guard used to use OMC engines when I was on small boats, but that was well before the Hondas they use now. We always had boats down. Just my plug for the Yamahas and I can't say I have ever even been on a boat with a Suzuki, so just my two cents on what a great engine I think the Yamaha is.

Ahh yes, performance. :lol: NO disrespect intended but if I wanted performance I would have passed up the C-Dory line altogether. :shock: Seriously, I'll probably go Yamaha because there are way more places to get it serviced here in the San Diego area and my super satisfied experience with the Yamaha on the Jenny B. I'm with Dorylvr on this one. I loved the freshwater flush connection too. It works as a hot shower on freshwater lakes.

All things being equal, you'll probably be totally happy with either choice so go with your gut feeling.

If the Coast Gaurd data sticker limits you to 55 H.P. You may have issues with insurance also with the Coast Gaurd if they do a spot check.
