Has anyone Fitted one of these on a C-Dory?

I can get one compete install for 8K which seems like a competitive price. I know for smaller motors Tohatsu has a good reputation but not sure about the larger ones. Would be curios of other opinions.

The dealer says he has had very very good luck with this F.I. Motor and that it includes a 4 year Warranty.

No experience with them. Did you get quotes for a honda or suzuki ect? Just currious how much price difference were talking and weather it's big enough to warrant trying something new?
 
Tohatsu is the same as Nissan I beleive, and I have heard they are good motors. I'm looking into a 40/50 Hp for another boat I have, and am debating which motor to throw on there, I'll admit the Etec sounds good with no maintenance for 3 years, those yearly services do add up$$. But the tohatsu looks like a good value. Try the hull truth also for info on them.

I have sold them for over 15 years . Best kept secret in the boating industry . First outboard builder in Japan .Found on commercial boats worldwide. TLDI is low pressure injection [same Aussie technology as Merc Opti] but you don't have to pay for the marketing . The big decision is 2 stroke DI or 4 Stroke . The 4th year of the warranty is on the [Orbital brand ] Fuel Injection system only. They are 5 Lbs lighter than E Tec ,run very similarly, ,come with the control box and tach and alum. prop,substantially less dollars and well proven for over 5 years . A Nissan is really a Tohatsu , the Nissan name is licensed for brand recognition purposes . Tohatsu is the builder . Nissans cost more due to the name . Tohatsu builds many other companies small portable motors. I believe they are partially owned by Brunswick but not certain .

I can say I spent more money on XD-100 oil for my ETEC in a year than I spent on service for my Honda in the first year. By the way the ETEC is not service free. You have to remember fuel filters and the ETEC hates running at low rpm as it tends to foul plugs. The ETEC in 100 hours used 3.5 gallons of XD-100 oil ($35 per gal), 2 sets of plugs ($36), and a fuel filter ($9). The Honda used 4 quarts of oil ($4.50 each), one oil filter ($8), lower unit lube ($6), and fuel filter ($9). I lubed the linkages and prop shafts on both motors and steering so that is a wash. Winterization took about 45 minutes on the Honda (spraying oil in the cylinders) versus 3 minutes with the ETEC. However, that included lubing the linkages inside the engine cowling. That's $165 to $41 not counting labor. I don't see the savings unless you paid someone to do it and counted your time to haul your boat to a dealer.
 
Tom- I don't do my own service so, and I know each time I go in for the 100 hour service it's at least 300 bucks, and thats once a year. I didn't know the etec's burnt that much oil though. I guess its probably a wash cost wise, definitly not interested in anything that fouls plugs though. I'll have to take a closer look at the tohatsu.
