I AM READY TO BUY A 2007 CRUISER 16 LEFTOVER, WTH A HONDA 50HP, I WILL BE USING THIS TO FISH IN THE BACK BAYS ON LONG BEACH ISLAND NJ FOR STRIPERS, FLUKE AND CRAB.

WILL THIS BOAT BE STABLE ENOUGH FOR MY WIFE AND I OR SHOULD I HAVE GONE UP TO THE 19? COST IS AN ISSUE FOR ME. MY LAST BOAT WAS A 17' BOSTON WHALER OUTRAGE. THIS IS THE FIRST C DORY, FOR ME, I REALLY LIKE THE PILOT HOUSE FOR BAD WEATHER TO FISH.

THANKS,

ALLEN

I have had both a 22 cruiser and a 16 cruiser. We have spent considerable time in Puget Sound on both. As flat bottom boats, they are both quite susceptible to wind when docking. I do strongly recommend the addition of a Permatrim for stability underway. You will both adapt to the ride in short order, I'm sure. If you trailer the boat, you will find the the 16 is remarkably easy to launch and retrieve whether the trailer is bunk or roller. I pull it with an older 4 cylinder RWD Volvo and have no problem. All in all I'm sure you will find it very suitable for "down the shore" in general and Barnegat Bay in particular. As you can tell, we love ours.

Allen: You'll be fine in a 16' C-Dory as long as you sensibly watch the weather. I know a fellow who regularly crossed Rosario Strait here in WA in a 16 Angler/Honda 40 in up to 25 knot winds. Depending on tides this can mean running abeam in 4' confused wind waves TGW large and powerful rollers. He picked his way through the wave troughs and used the vessel's quickness and lightness to maximum advantage. That said, it will not be quite as secure as your old Montauk, one of the finest boats of its size ever made. But, you will be able to get out of the rain, wind and sun, and run on about 1/2 the HP required by the Whaler. Make sure the two of you climb into the C-Dory to assure it's spacious enough. My personal opinion is that a hardtop is a necessary feature, esp. as we get older. The Honda 50 is an excellent choice for power; plenty of zip and fuel will not be a concern at all. Install and maintain an excellent fuel filter system and you should be good to go. Good luck! Mike.

Edit to my last post: OOPS! didn't read your post carefully enough to see you had an Outrage, not a Montauk. I would add: the C-Dory will ride very differently than an Outrage, more like a Montauk. It will pound at high speeds. Didn't mention this before since I thought, as a supposed Montauk owner, you knew what pounding was all about. I still highly recommend the Dory but would advise a test ride first. Mike.
