2004 75 Honda

I wonder if anyone has been successful at cleaning up this Honda problem.

I'm the original owner of a 2004 C-dory 22 with a four stroke 75 Honda. Over a period of time a slight hesitation occurred at 1100 Rpm that I was always able to drive thru. A few months after purchase I asked the dealer about it and he said it would work itself out as you use the motor more. Well it slowly got worse until it no longer can go above 5 mph. This bothers me because I'm very careful to keep gas fresh and run some cleaner thru once a year.

Any suggestions before I take it in for a $65 an hour look see. It runs fine if I push it to max on fast idle but when I put it in drive and put a load on it...well.

Will except any insight into the problem.

Up here in Bismarck can't buy two nice weather days in a row.

Cheers, Frank

Sounds to me like you should clean your fuel system, clean carbs, check idle settings and change any fuel filters you have, including fuel water seperator filters if so equipped. When is the last time you cleaned or changed your spark plugs, excessive plug gap and/or weak ignition can give low rpm stumbles. How about checking your ignition timing? Here are a few places to start. More info about problem if you have anymore will help for troubleshooting.

And my one statement would be to NOT take it back to the dealer who told you "it would work itself out as you use the motor more". Sounds as if he was trying to get you through the warranty period.

Good luck on finding the problem, and let us know what it was.

My guess is ,you have dirty carbs due to crappy fuel and lack of use syndrome . Two best choices , learn to rebuild your carbs if you are comfortable doing so,or take it to an authorized Honda dealer that wont try to capitalize on anything beyond your needs and will educate you on how to prevent the problem in the future. Make friends with fuel stabilizer such as PRIG or Stabil Marine formula. You probably have a date with a set of emulsion tubes . Just a guess.
