1989 22 Cruiser Transom handle 115hp?

I found a good deal on a 115hp 4 stroke, can the 89 transom handle the weight?

I have twin honda 45s on my 1994 and there is about 450 pounds on the back of her. The twins have been back there since new with now troubles at all. A 115 should be a little lighter than the twins (except the pig honda). Most weight between 375 and 425 pounds. When I repower, I will likely go with the 90 Suzuki (same specs as the 115) as it seems like a great engine. While I am only a math teacher and not an engineer, it would seem that since twins are just slightly heavier than the 115, your transom will indeed handle the weight if it is good order. It will likely handle the torque as well, but it was only rated for 100 hp. I doubt 15 hp will make a hoot of a difference since the boat is light and the traction that the water offers minimal.

Weight-Yes!

Power-Yes!

Torque-Yes!

AND YOU'LL LIKE THE 115'S EFFECT ON THE RESALE VALUE!

I was once told by the C-Dory factory that the boat will handle that much HP.

Just remove the 90 hp max label from the boat to prevent unnecessary hassles.

What brand is the 115?

Good Luck!

One more thing:

When you open her up with that big a motor, and your boat is lightly loaded, it may well want to act a bit funny, and "chine walk".

The large amount of torque will make the boat want to dig one chine in more than the other chine, which it actually wants to lift, because of the twisting effect on the transom.

The boat is planning, but more and harder on one side than the other, and it seems to have a mind of it's own. Time to throttle back a bit for safety's sake!

My Angler is a 93 and I have had my 115 Suzuki hanging out back there for over a year now and she is doing just fine.

It jumps on plane with little or no effort and it runs like a scaled dog. I agree with Joe, in that it wants to act a bit tender when I am the only passenger on board, so I just slow it down and save gas.
