My 87 angler came to me on a very heavy duty 3x5" channel galvanized EZ loader single axle trailer. The pink sheet says it is a 1990 and has an unlaiden weight of 1300# ( p225/75/15 tires).

Somewhere over the years it has lost it's weight rating plaque. I'm wondering if anyone knows the load rating for those early single axles? It's in great shape, relatively new disk brakes.

I have added at least 400 # to the rig. Can I add an axle, or am I better off replacing the whole thing?

Advice appreciated.

Thank you, chris

The axle itself should have a weight rating on it somewhere. Usually the limit is more because of tire rating than axle anyway.

I've bought and replaced axles on trailers twice now. What's nice is that they come really cheap as a total assembly. You will need the length between brake mounting plates to get the width right but any axle mfg can fill your needs.

If the present axle, backing plates and brake parts are in great condition I'd probably upgrade the tires and go with it. 200# per tire (assuming good loading of the extra weight) isn't that far out.

Looks like it is a 5200# drop axle, the tires are rated 2540 @66 cold.
Is it then about right that my carry capacity would be 5080 less 1300 or 3780?

Chris

Wow, i just went to the c-dory site to get weights and see that the 22 angler was shortened up quite a bit in the cabin and no longer has a dinette, or much room behind the pilot seat. Has it been like that for a long time?
