19 & 22 Angler Fans

Okay, here is the deal. We bought a 16C early last spring and we love it. Originally, we wanted a 16A but, were swayed by our dealer claiming the cruiser had better re-sale value and, I think it has worked out better for us as we needed additional seating for two young boys. I don't know about re-sale, A. vs. C., but the Cruiser in a 16 does better suit our needs. Obviously, we will outgrow the 16 in the not too distant future. I really do not know if we will make a change in a few weeks @ the boat show, or a few years.
So, I guess, the question is: 19A, or, 22A for next boat. We have no plans for boat camping, so a cruiser would be putting money into amenities that we do not need. Deck space for fishing and playing would be more valuable to us. We want to stay in the C-Dory line for protection from cold, wind, sun, etc. Either way (19 or 22), we want to get away from the canvas cabin back.
We would be looking at newer used, or, new. It would seem to me that there are few 19's in this category and, even fewer 22's. Time is on our side on this. We are okay for now. Any input, thoughts, guidance, suggestions or food for thought would be most appreciated.
 
With two kids, not wanting to have to deal with canvas, a desire
to stay out of the elements, go for the 22. The 19 is a huge boat
compared to the 16, but your boys will be growing and I think that you
will enjoy the extra room that the 22 provides.

If you would like to bring the boys up to Tacoma, you can take
my 19 out and see how you like it. Bring your 16 up and I
can see what it is like. It is the one C-Dory that I have not run.

the C-Dory dealer in Burlington WA has both ,a 19A and a 22A sitting on their lot now.old stock so would probably be willing to work with you.

I notice the 22 has half again as much deck space as the 19. I like that but, was wondering how much more of a chore it is to launch a 22 compared to a 19? One thing that is so nice with the 16 is the ability to launch and retrieve almost anywhere without help. Robbi, very interesting offer, maybe we could make it happen later in the year. Roger, I looked at the boats at Master Marine. Unfortunately they both had cabins with open backs. I suspect the majority of the Anglers are configured that way?

The extra length in the 22A is all in the cockpit, the cabin and seating on both boats is the same.

Master Marina does have both 19A and 22A in stock (the 22A is a 2008 I believe, Claret with grey canvas).

The 19 A has the option of removable floorboards to give a flat deck (which our in stock 19A has), the 22A does not.

It's pointy at one end, flat at the other. :shock:

Blue in color, options include removable floorboards, dual electric wipers, overhead grab rails and raw water washdown system. We have it rigged with a 90 Suzuki, but could install Yamaha or Evinrude if wanted.
 
Let me point out a few of the features of the 22 Angler that have impressed me over the years.

I was in the market a few years back for a 22 Cruiser and I looked high and low for one in reach of my budget to no avail.
When a 22 Angler appeared on the market I bit the bullet and jumped on it with both feet. I was tired of being C-Dory-less.

I suffered buyers remorse all the way home from Crystal River Marina...kicking myself for not waiting for the boat of my dreams.

After about a week of zipping around my home waters and looking at the possible mods I could do with my second choice boat I found that I had made the right choice for the type of boating I would be doing over the next several years.

It was providing me with so much more usable space that with just a little bit of reset time...I had the best of both worlds. I used the boat day in and day out during dive season here..and to go fishing was only a load up and away we go proposition.

I had a canvas bulkhead added and the full camper canvas made. With the bulkhead canvas I can stay warm and dry year round and when cruising, the full camper canvas allows the cockpit to a "great room" where 2 adults and two dogs have plenty of room to make like home away from home.

The built in cabinets and sink and cooktop are very functional for the cursers out there but I can have the same thing anytime I wish to add a few removeable mods in about an hour of prep time.

The 22 Angler is a very easy boat to tow, launch and retrieve for one person. All it takes is having your routine down pat and being prepared for doing so.

In your part of the country, most opt for the solid bulkhead and door, but with the right heating heating source, I am sure you could do just fine with the canvas bulkhead and be able to retain the spaciousness of the boat.

Good luck in your discission making and consider all the possibilities.
 
Thanks for all the good points being brought up here. Using the dimensions was the C-Dory Site, cockpit square footage looks something like this: 16C=14.5, 19A=22.3, 22A=36.4. I think we need to actually see both the 19 & 22 to find a direction for us.
Matt, I understand that one end is pointy and, the other end is square[/b]. I'am a fairly smart guy after-all. However, I would appreciate it if you would be so kind as to explain how I can tell them apart (PM headed your way)!

We have had a 22FT A in our family since 1987. My Dad bought her new in April 1987 when he retired and I bought her from him when I retired two years ago. Over the years we have used her for Salmon fishing out of the mouth of the columbia River, For Shrimping at Hoods Canal, two week trips to the San Juan Islands, My wife and I and our two dogs, both Bull Terriers and she just does a super job. No matter what we have wanted to do over the years We just had to put in what we needed and away we would go and have always had a great time. The extra back deck room is very handy to have. As you can tell she is our dream boat :D The best of luck on find the right boat for you and you family..

if the 22 A in Mt Vernon has no rear bulkhead and door, is it possible to get one from the factory and install it?????
 
While underway the 22a has seating for 2. I have had 3 and 4 aboard but the door was open and guests were standing.

3 or 4 fishing is a full house and it is more enjoyable with only 2 fishing. Soon I will have a boat load of grandkids to take fishing. This will be interesting.

No-

WHen ordered with the bulkhead option, the deck is built with a molded aft bulkhead like the 22 Cruiser has.

Better option would be to build a bulkhead out of starboard.

Just FYI-

The closed cabin option on the 22A lists for nearly $4300. That includes the bulkhead, windows and doors and small dinette inside.

But, unless the older boats are very different from the post-87 models, I think the cabin in the Cruiser is about 3 feet longer than the Angler's cabin. That's where the extra cockpit space comes from in the Angler. I know that the Cruiser has that extra little window at the rear of the cabin, while my Angler doesn't have room for it.

I'm getting ready to take out the stuff on the port side of C-Farer and put in bench-style seating so the cabin can seat 3 passengers while underway. I find that all the cooking is done outside in the cockpit, so we don't really have that much use for the stove or the extra counter space that the Cruiser provides.

It's a pretty versatile little craft, alright.

Correct, cabin is longer on the cruiser. The angler with factory bulkhead has the same cabin length as the non bulkhead version, so the dinette is very short.

My point was that the bulkhead is not an added feature, but is made as part of the boat.
