12/18/04 - Lake WA/Union Bay/Locks/Day trip

Okay, there are 8 boats signed up on the Event Sign-up page. Plus RogerBum on SeaDNA and I think another has said they are coming.

Thanks for the dissertation on Locking Thru by SeaDNA. Will read it through later when I have time.

I read the weather report for this cruise. December 18 is predicted to be :hot SUNNY! :hot

(Roger B. - I just "caught on" to the origin of your boat's name....clever!)

Hi :D I haven't been on the site for quite a while. Just married off a daughter on Sunday :love Anyway, What is the tenative time frame for departure and return for the trip? It is something we have wanted to do, and maybe we could squeeze it in. Wishful thinking.

Hi Jeff & Dianne

Think we're following Pat's message earlier in this thread.

"I hope we can all meet at (what is it, Portage Bay?) on the lake side of the Montlake Cut at 10:00 am or so, regardless of where we may launch"

Right Cruise Director?

We're planning to launch slightly before that (depending on Ferries of course!) at Magnussen Park

Hope to see you there-

Mac & Linda

Yes! We should alert the media!

Cat Guy! I think a mass C-Brat-C-Dory Lock party would give the folks that venture out to watch the locks a thrill, but they or somebody better get a picture..it would be priceless for sure, and make a great pic for the SBS too.

Now if only we can get the Laurna Jo back in time.........

Temporary Cruise director (TCD) here.

Yes, meeting at 10am at the east end of the cut by the 520 bridge. Channel 68 is our NW C-Pod channel for chit chat. Then I will give up my directorship to someone who has actually been through the locks. I may change my mind and launch on Mercer Island under the I-90 bridge instead of Maggie Park.

OK People
What is the Plan Man???? are you all planning to go out thru the locks or just a cruise and lunch somewhere on one of the lakes?????

Can't answer that, Roger - I'm NOT the "Plan Man"! Unfortunately, we have to get back home to clean up and change for a wedding at 5:00 pm in Blahview, so we have to be out of the water and on the road from Poverty Rock somewhere between 2 and 3 pm...but if time allows (and it SHOULD, that is about 4 hours if we are in the water and assembled by 10 am), my vote is for a mass crashing of the locks!

Pat, that doesn't give you (us) much time.

Hey, yesterday the lake looked inviting for most of the day. And today's lake look prompts the same jubilance Ralphy exhibited Christmas morning when he discovered a Red Rider BB gun under the tree. Oh, man! Ethereal wisps of fog evaporating from mirror-still water. Postcard perdy.

We could make time to go through the locks if we choose. At most it's an hour from our meeting site at the 520 bridge. But what then? Do we buzz around the salt water for a spell, then head to lunch at Shilshole? Makes sense. Sundown at what, 4:30 p.m?

A big howdy-hi to Diane and Jeff. And I'm happy for your daughter. :cake

If the weather stays decent I'll be launching at Coulon Saturday and we could cruise north together.

Look like we will launch at Coulon too, ...what time you thinking about Catman?

So far all I see is a "go" on the weather front... a little fog then burn off, dry, temps into the 50's... yum yum...

There's another option we might consider if we don't have enough time or light to go through the locks twice. We might think about a shoreline cruise along the lake, peeking into Cozy and Fairweather Coves, Maydenbauer Bay, maybe Seward Park. Too, there's fun up the Sammamish River. Then we could motor into Lake Union for lunch somewhere. Maybe Chinooks.
Really, just another suggestion. I don't care where we go.

But the locks would be fun, and might help those who want some practice.

Hi Gang,
Sorry to have to report that Carol and I will be unable to join in the cruise tomorrow. I've been fighting a cold since Tuesday. :sad

The score is ........
Cold 1
Dave S. 0 :cry

We're gonna miss you guys and gals! It's suppose to be a great day for cruising. Have a safe trip!

Sorry Catman :( I have to inform you that we will now be launching at Magnusson. Not sure if I spelled that right. I plans had to change but we will be meeting you all. We we be up there and launching around 10:00 am

Laurie

Radio us on 68 when you launch - we are gathering at the lake of the Montlake Cut at 10:00 am - if you are not far away, we'll wait!

Yesterday was big time fog all around here, but this morning it is bright and clear at 6:30 am, at least here in Fall City...a good omen!

Wow - I'm so jealous, you guys had a perfectly gorgeous day for your cruise. I wish we could have joined you but the boat is at the factory for some upgrades. I hope everyone had a wonderful time and enjoyed the rare December sunshine. See you all at the boat show.

All,

It was nice to meet some of the C-Brats at today's cruise. Unfortunately, SeaDNA and C-Sick missed the lockthrough - we would have made it if not for the police boat (must have been fresh donuts at Shilshole...).

In the "who's first to post photo's from today's cruise contest" - I WIN!!. I put a few of the photos on took in the SeaDNA album. This is probably the best one.

It was a beautiful day to be out on the water.

Take care,
Roger on the SeaDNA

One more thing - want to say thanks to David for the custom "fish-whacking" club. Much appreciated. It will get put to good use on some black-mouth sometime in the next month or so.
