11/18 - Snohomish River Delta Cruise

I sure wish we could join you folks for dinner the night of the play, but as you can see from an earlier post on this thread, we'll be rushing with Jessica and some of her fellow actors and actresses from Bremerton in order to get them to the Performing Arts Center in time for them to perform.... :disgust

Just a bit ago, I replied to one of the C-Brats that PM'd me with a number of questions regarding the cruise. Amongst his questions was in reference to moorage if he were to arrive the night before the cruise.

I'll share my answer....Moorage is available at the Everett Marina which is on the Snohomish River adjacent to Port Gardner Bay. The guest moorage float that I would use is in front of but just North of Anthony's Home Port Restaurant. (Cruise into the Everett Marina, make a hard right and tie up on the inside of the float.....that gets you out of the main river channel where you and your vessel will be better protected). Moorage rates are by the foot and very reasonable this time of year. Electric hook-up is available and I don't believe it is an added cost (if it is, it is also reasonable). I have spent winter nights moored there and used an electric heater to keep the cabin warm and an electric blanket to keep the bed warm. There are a number of restaurants in the marina proper, most are pricey but obviously provide the marina ambience. Scuttlebutts Brewery is located in the marina area, but is a bit difficult to find (you may have to ask directions), and they provide reasonably priced food as well as beer brewed on site. (They are my second most favorite beer...2nd to Snoqualamie Falls Beer....are you listening Pat and David?)
If I'm not mistaken the proprietors of Snoqualamie Falls Brewery and Scuttlebutts Brewery have met and enjoyed each others company in the past.
The Launch Ramp where we will be launching our vessels is approx. 1/4 mile up river from the entrance to the Everett Marina.

make a hard right

Every time I hear the above I'm reminded of the story that just prior to the Exxon Valdez grounding the skipper thought that someone was offering him a "bud light", but instead they said "hard right".

We currently have 6 vessels signed up for this cruise. I just completed reproducing the maps that we'll be using for the cruise, so each vessel will be able to keep track of where they are in the delta.

I thought I had signed up, but apparently not. Now I have.

I'm really looking forward to this one, so I hope the boat's ready in time! You see, my boat has a problem:

About moorage at Everett. There is moorage available at the far end of marina that is very protected. It is near the restaurants. It is ADA accessible, but as I remember, it is open for all. It is very close to the restaurants and shops. If you don't want to be out there on the river, it is a good spot. You can contact the marina and check for availability, and they have a good map online. Robbi

If you put in at the launch and are staying over at the marina, you may want to go a litte further west to the rivers' mouth . I always enjoy passing the Naval Base and the Coast Guard Station. Only about a mile from the Marina.

Yesterday at Birch Bay we ordered the Crabby Lou name decals, figured out where the Mr Heater Buddy will go, and put up the vinyl Alaska bulkhead just to see how it fits. Meant to bring it home to Fall City, I think Patty has to sew up a new Sunbrella one, can probably re-use the isinglass. The problem with the vinyl one is that in the cold weather it contracts and is very tough to stretch to fit the snaps...zipper is pretty rugged too, although after a bit we did get it zipped, now just can't ever unzip it again!

Hello everyone! We have been "absent" from the site for a while, but I'm so glad I checked in tonight - in time to sign on for the Snohomish River cruise! We've been wanting to do this for a long time. Count in the lunatics!

Chris and Janet,

We're sure glad that you decided to check in on the CBrats. Been a long time since we've seen you. Looking forward to having you on the cruise.

This evening we attended the opening night's performance of South Pacific and in my opinion (albeit biased... :wink ) the entire cast did a wonderful job. This is especially a timely performance given that Veterans Day is occuring in the middle of the two weekends of the performance. (For those of you that will be able to attend....you are in for a treat!)

Patty here. Dave, we have been lucky to have seen our daughter, Lydia, play Maria in the school production of "West Side Story" and son, Austin, play Mr. Applegate (the devil--type cast) in "Damn Yankees." Right after your wedding day, birthin' your babies, and seeing them graduate from college, seeing your kids in a starring role in a production is pretty button popping. We know just how you feel and are so looking forward to seeing Jessica and cast next weekend. Congratulations!

I thought that I'd bring this thread back up to the "top" in the hopes of recruiting more attendees on the cruise.

(Additionally, for those that are attending the musical, here is the recent count of attendees at the play. Last Friday nights performance had 420 in attendance and Saturday night there were close to 600 attending. The Performing Arts Center seats 700 and I've spoken to quite a few folks that say they are going to attend this coming Sat. night. Therefore, I'd encourage you to be there early).

I am planning on being there in the Alyssa Jean, 16 C-Dory. I have the propane heater guy ready to keep me warm. No cabin canvas. Maybe have to bring along some hot chocolate and Baileys.

It is getting closer to "cast off" time for the Snohomish River Delta Cruise and we have 9 vessels signed up. (Hopefully "Luna C" will make it back from the San Juans in time to join us!) The maps for our cruise are all ready and highlighted in different color markers for the various channels that we will be following. With all this rain, there certainly will be no scarcity of water to float our boats. The rain is suppose to lighten up by Saturday, so that should work in our favor.

Maybe I will bring some duct tape and a piece of plastic for enclosing the cabin. Just made a scookum little platform for my Little Buddy propane heater. Sits just inside the opening to the cuddy space with is front flush with the bulkhead. Now I am working on a conversion on the lift out panel which will double as a little table.

See you all at 0930.

Dave,
What is your approximate ETA back at Everett ? We are trying to join you and have got it down to two timing conflicts so there is a good chance. OUr last concern is that we would probably be faced with a run back to Oak Harbor after the event which would mean a very low water retrieval on a very flat ramp in the dark. Alternatives are come over on the ferry or drive around.

Merv, there would be no problem for you to "peel" off from the group if you need to depart early. I'll take that in consideration at the start of the journey if you remind me and I'll be sure that you'll be able to find your way back alone without problem by planning our cruise route accordingly.
