10/08 - 10/10 - Lake Shasta Gathering

Rock-C: The different looking trim up around the bow is actually a parallelogram shaped window that modifies the apperance of the trim in that area. They were installed by the previous owner who said the v-berth area gave him claustrophobia! Thanks for the interest. Joe.

Either date is OK by me, but I'd prefer at least a weekend between this and Sequim if a fall date is chosen. Sequim has typically been the first weekend in October. Also, in addition to the CA C-Dory folks, I was hoping to get some interest from the OR and WA Brats for this one - if it's too close to Sequim, we may lose out on some of them. So how about it - any more of you folks interested in coming down, and if so, got a date preference?

RE where to stay - I like the idea of somewhere other than the marina, and having a houseboat to gather on sounds pretty cool as well. I've never done it.

Hi Joe
Slow-N-Easy would be interested in attending a Shasta Lake gathering any time.
This would be the only get together that I would not have to travel 8 or more hours to. Not that travel is bad.
Last November my folks rented a house boat and we used it as a dock.

The House boat could be used to prepare food, gather, party, tie to, as well as for shower facilities.

The best time to rent a house boat is off season. The lake is less crowded then also. ( Not so many nuts )

I am open to what ever is good for all.

Bill Slow-N-Easy

Bill and others-Thanks for the replies. As soon as I think most everyone interested has replied, I'll build a calendar/matrix to see which time or times of the season has the greatest possible attendance, then set up a definite time for the cruise. Joe.

Hi all,

We'll be at Shasta Lake October 3rd thru the 10th this year aboard a Jones valley Stargazer. There are at least three reasons we go that time of year: 1) it's at the end of our 'season' (like we have one anymore!) 2) the rates really drop after Ocotber 1st and 3) the weather (at least for the last 6 years) has always been in the 80's to low 90's and sunny, which is plenty hot for these Northwesterners. We've never had any trouble with weather on our trips from northwestern Washington to the Lake.

So, if some of you can get to the Lake then we'll be there!

I was wondering when you would come out of the woodwork...

We can work out the details as more folks chime in, but just to get a date on the calendar, how about we shoot for 10/8 through 10/10 - IF there's no objection to moving Sequim back a bit?

Any objection to having Sequim 9/17 - 9/20 this year? Is that late enough to avoid any crowds at the state park?

Bill-

This will work here at Shasta. Early October is the best time, weater-wise, too. Still warm enough to swim and enjoy the water, but not so hot you can't get comfortable easily. Doesn't require heating at night, either. Also, by that time, the fishing is starting to pick up from the summer doldrums as well. Houseboat rentals are more reasonable at that time as well.

I had thought of suggesting that we might coordinate it with the fall pilgrimage from E. Q., but didn't know if they would want all the Brats around their (private) party. Thanks, Les, for the "invitation"!!!

As soon as we've got enough response to firm up the date, I'll try to reserve some marina spaces here for those who want to might want to use them. We can also make camping arrangements as well. The McCloud Bridge campground closes Sept. 30, but there are many others. We'll work out the details in due time once we get the sign-up list posted. Thanks! Joe.

Bill and others interested in the Lake Shasta Cruise:

What is the final disposition on the possibility of using Oct. 8-10 as our weekend? The answers to the question of moving the Sequim date around were not encouraging. But there is no date for Sequim yet, so I don't really know how tight the conflict between the two cruises is chronologically.

The advantages of having it the weekend when the EQ Gang are here are obvious and would serve as an attractive addition to the cruise. The weather timing is perfect. We also probably only have a limited number of persons from the Wash./ N. Oregon who would be interested in both because of the travel distances involved.

We don't want to leave anyone out by making a decision that would build in a conflict that would be exclusionary if we can, but sooner or later we'll have to force the issue, I guess. Is it time to set a provisional date of Oct. 8-10 and just see who would attend? (Or) Can we get the Sequim date firmed up and then know where we are on that part of the issue?

Just wondering on how to get this off the ground a little further!

Thanks! Joe

Hey Joe,

I went ahead and put both events on the calendar for the back-to-back weekends, and set up the signup sheets. If we need to tweak the dates later, we can do so, but making them semi-official gets more folks thinking and talking about them.

Unless there is additional interest shown for the Shasta gathering, it looks like the houseboat idea would be an expensive proposition; how soon do you think reservations need to be made?

Bill- Good! Let's encourage everybody interested to sign up ASAP, so we can get going and gauge the response! I'll reserve some slips right away, with the idea that we can add more later. There shouldn't be too much of a problem at all because of the non-peak (Summer) time of year. I'll get them all in the same marina (#1), and of some what to camp on the lake, we'll direct them to the camping reservation website. Thanks!!! Joe.

Hey everybody,

I'd be the last of the bunch to want to conflict with another 'traditional' date; we just happen to need to go on vacation that week in October (both Kathy and my respective spouses are in the banking industry and have the Columbus Day Monday off which works well for extending the vacation; we're closed Mondays anyway). I know this is usually when folks are at Sequim (I know because I miss it every year!). I just popped the information out on our being at Shasta as an FYI; I don't want it to be an either/or and I don't want to have folks change the Sequim date if they like it where it is.

I've been just lurking until now. Thought I should post something to get rid of that ZERO. I've had my boat since late 1990 when I picked it up in Kent and drove straight thru to Carson City, NV. Ever since its been like the old days when the VW owners honked at each other on the road. Great boat! I'll be at Shasta unless something quits running.

Bill :D

Bill- Glad to have you aboard! You'll find this group makes for wonderful get-together and friendships! I'm assuming you've read all the previous posts on this thread and are aware of our plans. We'll get more specific about our "float and food plan" a little later, but rest assured you'll have a great time at Lake Shasta in October, the very best of times to visit.

So far we've got The EQ Gang (Dusty and Les and their wives), Da Nag Bill and Dana, Lynn Marie, Slow-N-Easy, and Sea Wolf (myself). I'm going to make some tentative slip reservations at Bridge Bay Marina soon, and we can discuss later whether we want to use them or camp out on the lake, etc.

Anyone else interested? Joe.

Jeff and I are interested. When the dates are firm,we will make our arrangements. We plan to hit the Fall Fling and then head on down to Shasta :!: :P Can't Wait.

Diane

Just FYI- the E.Q. Gang on the Shasta trip is me (Les) and my wife Shelley, our 3 dogs, my business partner Kathy (aka, The Boss), her husband Bill, and their dog. Four dogs...four people...works out just about right. You won't sneak up on us!

Les- Thanks for the clarification. I was hoping to also meet Dusty down here at the gathering! Might just have to go up to the Fall Fling at Sequim to meet him and many of my other C-Brat aquaintances in person. Joe.

Bill- I've found out that ESPN and some Bass Fisherman's Tournament group are sponsoring a tournament on the weekend of October 9-10. This won't affect us much, but I'd better reserve spaces in the Bridge Bay Marina for any of those participants that want to stay overnight at the marina. Some may prefer to camp out on the lake or stay in nearby motels, but we'll have to reserve slips for any members that want them as they'll go to the bass fisherman and their metal-flake hot rods, otherwise. The overnight/24 hour fee is about $20.

The various alternatives have been discussed above on this thread, including the virtues of staying at night in the marina, the camping connection/reservation site, etc., but what we really don't have is an agenda for the weekend's activities. Seems like most of these get-togethers are pretty loosely structured, with most of the planning being done concerning the food. Cruising plans are left to individual discretion.

This weekend is different to the degree that the group from E.Q, Marine is renting a houseboat for the weekend and we will be sharing each other's company. To what degree these two agendas can or should be merged remains in question, as we don't want to impinge too heavily on their weekend vacation. Perhaps some discussion is in order.

Do we want a get together dinner at the restaurant or at the marina on Friday night? How about a dinner and social Saturday night? Can we cruise to a common location and hang out together on Saturday, or do we want too leave things unstructured? Maybe Bill can talk to Les and negotiate what the E.Q. Gang's input is? What do all of you hopeful attendees think? Joe.

Sea Wolf...

If ESPN is involved, it could be a major bass tournament. There will be heavy boat and car traffic together with packed launch facilities. So here is my 02 cents - it's still early enough to change the date

A few years ago I was in the Delta with my boat during a major contest. It was a crazy and dangerous place to be. I was asleep in my boat at the Tower Park Marina at about 4am when a bass boat went through at between 65 & 75 mph  . Later, I was nearly hit by one on those boats in the slough.

Bill
