09/29 - 10/01 - Sequim Bay, WA

also when downrigging that deep make sure you use the same weight ball on both sides. I spent a really bad day fishing a round 12 and a flat 10. I was crossing wire all day. i really hated it. I will not go any ligther then 12lbs and perfer 15 lbs in the sound. Dont be shy about speed either. 2.5 to 3.8 mph with 'WITH" the current. Abig mistake that we all make when learning downrigging is wasting time trolling against the curent. troll with it or across it. if you are trolling a slot or rip and get to the end , pick up your gear and run back to the up current side and troll back down agian. dont waste time trolling against a 3mph current for a hour to get back to the top just for 15 mins of trolling with the current. Pick up and run to the start. more time with the current at the right speed and depth, and troll in to the sun when you can.

Sitting here envious of the Sequim gathering attendees... If only the real estate market was conducive to selling this house, we'd be there. I'll look forward to the pics you folks post and plan on being there next year.

Sorry, but the Rock-C crew will not be able to make it to Sequim this year :(

Oh no! You guys are the world record holders for attendance. I sure hope it's a good reason and not something haywire. See you next time.

Dang it...first time I've missed this gig.

Y'all have a good time...I'll catch up with many of you at the SBS.

For those of you who have crossed from Anacortes to Sequim. Does it make more sense to head into the San Juan's and shoot straight from the bottom of Lopez Island to Sequim Bay? It looks like it would cut off some time and avoid the potential hazard of the Point Wilson rip. Longer crossing if the weather went to crap. Good or bad idea?

FOG WARNING for anyone leaving early.

We got to Keystone about 1100 and it was socked in solid. So, activating plan "B" we said OK let's take the ferry to Port Towsend and go launch in John Wayne.

It was at that time that we saw the ferry line and heard on the radio that it had not been running all morning because of the Thick Fog and they were going to try the first boat from PT at 1115.

We will go back around 1500 and see what it looks lke both fog wise and ferry wise. Otherwise it will be tomorrow.

If you are headed out there, be careful I can hear the fog horns even now back in Freeland.

Merv

Looks like the 1115 Ferry from PT to Keystone made it so it is clearing. They are projecting a 2 hr wait if anyone is thinking of using them.

Going to head back there in a few.

Lyle, we made the run in the opposite direction last year, from Sequim to Twin Bridges. We had to wait until the next day because the weather and water conditions were bad. The next day was fairly flat and calm and we made nearly a direct crossing from Protection Island past Smith Island and up around through Guemes channel with no problems. Weather permitting, you shouldn't have any problems doing the same. However, since we didn't try going into the San Juans and across, I'm not sure if that would be quicker or not.

Peter

Thanks for the input Peter. I just checked and the forcast is for small craft warnings tomorrow. I guess we'll get to Anacortes and see if we're going to head across or just make a short trip into the San Juans.

We have decided to go for it at the last minute!

If anyone reads this on a Friday night at 7:40 pm please allow the Crazy Frazeys (John & Amy) to join when we arrive hopefully around 11-12 noon on Saturday if all goes well.

We've been busy this summer and miss being on the web site and visiting with wonderful C-Dory folks!

Mr.E's C...we'll be keeping an eye out for you since we are coming out of the Portland area as well.

Hope everyone is safe and we'll see you soon!

Due to a last minute change of plans we're not gonna make it.
We got rearended by a semi near Centralia. Everybody's OK but the boat took a good lick. The motors are broken and the boat got shoved forward about three feet on the trailer.
My wife and I were really looking ahead to meeting everyone and getting our feet wet.
I'm gonna see about canceling my vacation days so we probably won't drive up.

Milehog-

Sorry to hear about your accident!

Glad to hear everbody's OK!

Too bad about your boat, hopefully will be an insurance write-off, and you can start over again.

Sorry you won't be able to make the Sequim gig.

Someone ought to be able to relay your post to the attendees.

Joe.
