Hello everyone,

I am going to the printer next week to look into tee-shirt pricing. The logo will look pretty much the same as last year which should put the price close to that of last year. If you are interested in tee-shirts please let me know numbers and sizes by the end of the month.
Thanks
Erma

You're my heroine Erma! Please order one medium and TWO large for Pam & I.

I'll let YOU figure out who wears the large!

Al

Helo everyone, We are just a few short months away from the gathering. I spoke with Ashley at the Marina today. He reports he still has plenty of slips open for the week end. Please let me know if you would like me to make reservations for anyone. I will keep everyone updated and hope to post a pic of the tee shirt soon.

Erma

Erma,
Please place an order for 1 large tee-shirt for us.
As to travel, Joan has end of fiscal year close out for the Coast Guard budget during that period, so in order for us to attend, we will most likely arrive via car. We really would like to make the trip with OSPREY, but we will most likely compromise to participate.
Best regards,
Joan and Steve Baum

Steve,
We will miss Osprey on the water, but I am sure you and Joan can hitch a ride with us or somebody else. I added your shirt to the order. See you in a few months

Hello All,
We are just two months away from Sept 23rd and our Friday night meet and greet. I hope it will be a little cooler by then I have placed an order for fifteen tee-shirts. If anybody still wants to order please let me know by August 1st. We have seven boats with reserved slips at the Marina. Call Ashley to make yours or pm with your info and I will take care of it for you. Also if you are planning to join us and not planning to stay at the Marina there are places to stay in Oriental. We stayed at River Neuse Suites last year. It is a very nice place with nice views of the river.

Best regards,

Erma

We, Lyle and Janda, plan to attend the gathering in Oriental. But we'd also be interested in going north from there on the Intracoastal Waterway, possibly as far as Norfolk, VA, if anyone would come along. We haven't done any traveling on the ICW, and most of our experience is on lakes, so we'd like some company.
We did the lower 100 miles of the Mississippi with Tex and Sharon of Bixby's Cub this spring, and we're planning to go to St. Paul and come down the Upper Mississippi to Guttenberg for that gathering in early September and then on to Dubuque. So by late September, we'll have LOTS more experience, but not coastal.
Anybody interested?[/i]

Lyle and Janda,
I know two boats that will leave the gathering on Sunday and travel back to Washington NC on the ICW that will put you close to Bellhaven and the Pungo river and the trip north. Others may chime in with their plans. I can tell you from last spring the trip north through the dismal Swamp Canal is a good cruise. We had two 16's with us and they did the Mini loop with ease

Erma

The Mini-Loop is a brief trip going from Norfolk to North Carolina and back to Norfolk using the Dismal Swamp Canal and the A&C Canal of the Intracoastal Waterway.
In May a group of C-Dory's (16's, 22's, 25 cat and 25 mono) made a trip from the Southern Branch of the ELIZABETH River out of Norfolk down the Dismal Swamp Canal to Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Then we crossed the Albemarle Sound heading east, then picked up the normal commercial route of the Intracoastal Waterway head back north across the Currituck Sound, then through the A&C canal back to the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River.
Our trip was a leisurely 4 day trip, with a stop at the visitor's center in the Dismal Swamp Canal for one night, then another night in Elizabeth City and the last night at Coinjock Marine just south of the Currituck Sound. We had great weather and a wonderful time.

Steve,
Thanks for the explanation of the Mini Loop, I would not have been as able to explain that as well as you did, but then I am not the Mariner you are. Thanks

Erma

Erma,
One point that I should have stated is that the loop can be done clockwise or counterclockwise, so it is a good idea to pay attention to the prevailing wind of the Albermarle and the Currituck sound. This way you can decide which way you will play with the prevailing wave/wind activity if any exist.
The trip we did as a group in May was ultimately comfortable, because all of our open water steaming was done in the morning, before the wind piped up. Fortunately the wind we saw in the Currituck Sound was behind us, giving us a nice easy cruise all the way to Coinjock.

Lyle & Janda, you should seriously consider doing the "Carolina Loop" as it is a good introduction to ICW travel.

There is a lot of great information on the c-brats subject of the Carolina Loop.

Lady KC has a word document that was compiled for our Carolina Loop trip of some 400 miles from the Oriental area to/from the Dismal Swamp.....
that has GPS way points, etc.
I could attach it to an e-mail if your are interested.

NC Wildlife Resources Commission has a
Coastal Boating Guide.........
that shows ICW mile markers, marinas, etc.

NOAA has Booklet Carts such as #11553, that you can down load to your computer as a PDF file.

Lady KC,

Thanks for all the discriptions of the Carolina Loop. Yes, I too, would like to be emailed the information or document. You are all so great with all the support you freely give.

CBrats forever!

Lyle & Janda
