09/21 - 09/23 - North Carolina C-Dory Gathering

Wednesday?....lucky...lucky C-Brats! I'm still paying my dues, can't leave work till noon on friday.
Ditto on the safe trip for everyone...Jo and I are really looking forward to meeting all of you!

In preparation for the trip south, I fired up the 8 hp Honda kicker. As usual it fired on the first pull and ran like a champ for 2 minutes and then it died. I restarted it and the same thing happened again.

Anyway, I am reluctant to make the 185 mile run (each way) without the backup motor functioning properly. If I can get it running before Thursday, then we are good to head south. Otherwise, I may be coming by car (bummer).

Well we were planning on being there by dinner time but :disgust .. They had a small craft advisory out. So we'll get up and leave tomorrow morning. We'll be there by lunch time. :) See ya all there. Hope that kicker starts up alright Steve ! See ya there tomorrow Al ! Larry.. uh we'll see you Friday night :) Be safe everyone !

Ok so Larry and I are here at Oriental :o Waiting for everyone else to get here. We already met David on Alma's Only down by the ramp. We will go over to Whittaker's Pointe tomorrow and settle in,be there in case anyone needs help getting into their slips. The Marina looks nice . We took the boat over for a quick look already. See ya all tomorrow ! :D

Ask David on Alma's Only how far it is to the next bend (marina, bouy, lock, town etc). I'll bet he says 2.3 miles!

Long Story :o

Dun (CTYankee)

I'm assuming that most will be staying aboard their boats at Whitaker Point...so how late are you guys gonna be up and about tomorrow night?
We hope to get there in time to launch the boat, but it depends on the area lighting (and my ability to captain it around the corner to the motel).
I gave up on trying to get the top half coated with poly-glow...so we'll be in the tri-color C Dory
I did get the new VHF installed...MMSI'd...and programed the group number.

Tracy...would you mind exchanging cell numbers in a PM?

Sorry to say that a family emergency will prevent us from attending the gathering.
I wish everyone safe travel, and a wonderful C-Brat weekend! Sorry we can't be there.

We are leaving early friday Morning for the Cruise, it will take us about 6 hrs. to get there. Looking forward to see a lot of new people

I'd really loved to make the gathering. My youngest daughter is getting married in october plus just buying my new 22 has my time and cash flow a little limited. I'm still rigging the 22 also. I grew up just south of that area in Wilmington before moving to Florida in 1960. I have visited their often over the years. It's a beautiful area. Hope you all have a great time and please do it again next year God willing I'll be there. I plan to take a cruise by water to the OBX bext summer.

Ok so far 12 boat have shown up :D We are having a good time far as I can tell ! Wish the rest of you could have come . Larry, Carrie wants to know if you want us to mail your shirts to you ? IF so pm or email me your address and I'll take care of it. Tonight we did the pot luck, chatting with all our new pals and just hung out together. Can't wait for the poker run tomorrow and cruise together. I plan to get lots of photos of that ! Plus we have Donna taking loads of photos for us here ! She's doing a great job :D . We will update you all tomorrow ...sometime.. Take care all ! :o Tracy

Greetings All--Ditto Pandy Girl's sentiments. We had a great time! Very much enjoyed having Dick & Suzanne aboard for the Pokie Run (Suzanne's term--we had to get fuel in Oriental and ran dead last until we cut Half Pint's wake coming out of Turnagain Bay and our Honda90 sank their Merc75).
Good trip home. Got gas in Oriental (the Puertorican dockmaster can actually say "Ojos Verdes"! We had originally planned to return Monday, but Cassie was called to a meeting of her consulting group (new client). To make a little more room I left my NtM & LNM notebook at home. With the change in plans I failed to redo the research and we ran into an ICW closure until 1700 at Morehead City for a sailboat race.
With the fantastic weather forecast Sunday morning, I suggested a return across Onslow Bay, but Cassie was reticent of an ocean voyage. I told her it would be like the Chesapeake, just no land on the port side. The ICW closure sealed the deal, after CG Sector NC read us the LNM re Marine Corp activity in the Restricted Zone (helos, no live firing), we cruised on down at +/- 15 kts very comfortably and transited New Topsail Inlet at 1815. Looking FWD to next year. Bill & Cassie Woodhouse

Sounds like everyone had a great time in Oriental. Sorry we didn't get to the gathering, but the gods of all things mechanical were against this trip. Since the 8 hp kicker wouldn't run, I decided to pull the 5 hp off the skiff I keep tied up in my backyard and put that kicker on the C-Dory. I launched the skiff and fired the engine up and just like the 8 hp it ran for a minute and died. So, I guess I must have gotten some bad fuel, since I use identical portable tanks for both engines.

Since I wasn't going to make it by water, I decided to get my Miata out of the garage for the cruise down to Oriental. I put the top down, but the drivers side electric window was in the up position and would not go down. I checked the fuse and it was OK and the passengers window works normally, so I don't know what the problem could be. By this time I figured it would be better to stay at home.

Anyway, I owe someone for two t-shirts. Can I forward the money for the shirts, plus the postage and get them mailed to me?

Steve
