09/12 - 09/14 - Sequim Bay CBGT

Cathy and I will be leaving Rochester Friday around 4pm and driving straight to the marina. Hope to be there before dark.
It sure sounds like a weekend of fun!

Just to clarify, as I understand it most - or all - boats will be mooring at Sequim Bay State Park (which is just about 2 miles south of Sequim's John Wayne Marina), correct?

John Wayne marina is a great facility and has ample parking for vehicles and trailers. They also have two boat ramps which they charge a $9 fee to use. They also have a trailer/boat rinse down area close to the ramps. The marina has a real small shop and a small cafe/grill/restaurant. You can read about John Wayne marina at URL http://www.portofpa.com/marinas/john-wayne-marina.html.

Sequim Bay State Park has pay stations to allow us to pay daily moorage/dock fees, correct? I have been there but do not recall specifically seeing one but likely just overlooked it.

From the WA. State Parks website http://www.parks.wa.gov/moorage/ it states that there is a $10 / night fee for tying up to mooring buoys and a size based fee of $0.50 per foot LOA to tie up to the dock.

You can also download a PDF map of the Sequim Bay State Park @ the following URL:

http://www.parks.wa.gov/parks/maps/Sequ ... 20Park.pdf

...its only 198 Kb. so even if you have a slow connection should not be too onerous to view. This map shows the park has 6 mooring buoys in addition to the descent sized dock.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Take care,
Dan & Tanya Denver

Thankyou Tom and Warren, I got on the State ferry web site and they don't take reservations for vehicles over twenty feet or over 7'-6" in height from Keystone, so we are looking for an alternate route now. Maybe Edmonds to Kingston ferry or drive south over the Narrows bridge. We are in Blind Bay on Shaw Island now and we have a weak connection so we will keep trying the ferries or Mapquest.

Toni and I have been in the San Juans for two weeks and are thinking of trailering out of Bellingham on Friday to Keystone and then take the ferry to Port Townsend then on to Sequim by afternoon. Does this sound like a reasonable plan? Irregardless we are signing up and hope there will be a slip for us, we are looking forward to seeing everyone.
Oh, and where exactly is it and where is the ramp? We are not familiar with the area do we need specific directions?
_______

We came across the Keystone to Port Townsend ferry, late Sunday night on Labor Day weekend. We had a reservation for Monday at 1700 but called about 4 hours prior to arrival at 2200 (10pm) on Sunday and changed the reservation due to a one day early return. We could not get there by the 2130 ferry so we took the later one, No problem there were only about a dozen cars on that run. On our way over on Wednesday night I talked to several drivers who cross there regularly and most said the reservation was not necessary, and imposable to do for some (2 commercial drivers who make a run from PT up into Canada every day.) The website gives a phone number that we used, and it worked fine that way.

You can go with a reservation or in a standby line, however except for the peak travel times, it sounded like you were pretty safe to just drive up and pay and go.

And yes, a Tundra and a 22 Cruiser (combined to be 44ft) went on just fine and it was about $58. We understand that sometimes that varies, so don't take that $$ as gospel. One thing I would recommend before actually driving onto the ferry, RAISE the OB(s) up to the high position. Don't want to take the chance of dragging a skeg on a steep ramp.

sportner, I hope you read this right away. We just canceled a reservation on the Keystone-Port Townsend ferry for a 50 foot vehicle on the 12th at 12:00. Hurry, maybe you can snag it.

You cannot make those reservations on the website but they will make them on the phone. they will ask length, type of tow vehicle, combined weight, Maximum height, and when you get there they will check to see if you are carrying gas in loose containers. They were very nice, helpful and pleasant to do that way. The WA State Ferry service reservation phone number is 888 - 808 - 7977 works between 0700 and 2100 daily.

Don't forget to raise the outboards before driving on and driving off. We had a nearly empty ferry so I left mine up during the crossing, but if they were really packed I would put them down if asked to by the ferry crew so they can get another vehicle right up close to you.

Good luck, travel safe, and come to Sequim Bay CBGT,

My sincere apologies. I thought everyone knew where Sequim is (my bad). And John Wayne, too.

Dan put on a nice set of links for John Wayne marina and for the park.

Sequim is on hiway 101, east of Port Angels about 20 miles or west of Port Townsend about 40. John Wayne Marina (JWM) is on your right, past the Sequim Bay State park. There is launching at both the park and JWM, however JWM is much nicer. If you are driving to the CBGT, take the State park entrance, go into the park and follow the signs toward the group camp, (not the boat launch). You will turn to the right when you see the covered dining area. It is about 1/2 mile along a very narrow, one-lane (mostly) tight road. Not where Most folks would want to go with a trailer.

For John Wayne Marina take the right at the JWM sign, about 1-2 miles past the park entrance. Go down the hill, (praying for good brakes) and turn left at the bottom of the hill. JWM will be on the right in 100 yards.

Travel safe, and come to Sequim Bay SP CBGT.

Does anybody know if Sequim Bay SP has showers?

Or perhaps will we have access to the shower facilities at JWM? I do not see anything on the SP map indicating they have such facilites.

Gotta let the wife know the score.

Tanks,
Dan

Dan,

Yes! The State Park has showers. The closest one had a foundation problem and is not useable, but there are two others nearby. They take tokens that are available near the entrance. I'll get some of those so you don't have to go up that far. We'll try to make Tanya as comfortable as possible!

See you Friday!

Note to self; I may want to brush up on my communication skills.

I was withholding my interest in showing up in order not to influence Adrienne's feelings on going.
Adrienne was withholding her intrest in going in order not to influence my feelings.

I got the stove working and the wiring issue should be resolved.
This has been too much drama for me, see you there. :cocktail :cigar

Tanks for the info Roger..... the wife will be happy!

Looking forward to the weekend and meeting you and everybody else.

Take care,
Dan & Tanya

BaseCamp Annie, looking forward to meeting and making new friends
And there is room for more, come on over. Always room for more.

It must be the forecast of a warm weekend! We're up to 23 Brats with room for more. Some are going to be in the area a day or two early. See you all Friday.

Milehog- it's good to hear that you have your boat problems fixed and you're making the trip.... Be careful driving through Centralia
I can't just stop fishing, I have enrolled in a twelve step program though.

hot damn, this will be a fine way to wind up the summer

Don't know if anyone noticed, but it looks like the full moon we ordered is going to arrive right on schedule. Oh Boy, another photo op. :photo

For those arriving by boat to Sequim Bay. The entrance is well marked by 2 buoys, making a long channel parallel to Travis spit. As you come around the corner to port at the end of the spit, you can line up the green markers then make your turn to port. To the east of the green markers is a very shallow (at times) are called the middle ground. You don't want to be there, (it dries at low tides). There will be one red buoy to your right as you get closer to the entrance to JWM. The Sequim Bay State Park is about 2-3 miles into the bay, on your starboard side, (West side of the bay. Look for SleepyC with a Stars and Stripes wind sock high above the cabin top, and Dreamer. We will be monitoring VHF 16 & 68.

As always, it is a good idea to keep a sharp eye out for trap floats, lines and debris in the bay. Travel safe, and enjoy,

Harvey

Great weather ahead, and good times.

The Hawaiian Chieftain is due into Sequim Bay at 1500 this afternoon. HHawaiianChieftain is a sister ship to the "Lady Washington", or more correctly, a travelling partner. The LW is on the hard in Port Townsend. Sure would like to have seen that haul-out.

Hey Tom, We aren't that far south, we could make some room at the dock for the folks boat, but we understand the family ties. You all have fun, we'll catch up with you at SBS Hawthorne in Jan.
