09/12 - 09/14 - Sequim Bay CBGT

Good Afternoon C-Brats,

Well, We have it, The weather folks have just confirmed that this August has been nearly the wettest on record, with buckets of rain. OK, now it's Labor Day weekend coming up, and the SleepyC :moon is on the way to Princess Louisa Inlet for a much needed weekend off, and to get in some quality boating time. This will be our first really big, and mildly long trip with SleepyC. We will be off line for the duration, but should be back here on the site by Wed or so, 9/3 or 4. Then there will only be one weekend until we get together in sunny Sequim. Since August was wet :rainbow , Sept is supposed to be dry :hot Looking forward to that, and to seeing you all here on our quiet little bay.

We have firmed up our plans and will make the CBGT! I'm excited!
Tuesday the 2nd we're putting the boat in at Bellingham and will mess about the islands till friday the 12th when we'll catch the 12:00 Kingston to Port Townsend ferry. A couple days in fun filled Sequim then back home.
The 5th, 6th and 7th we'll be at Fossil Bay on Sucia Island. If anybody happens to be in the neighborhood stop by.
 
We have it planned for Sat night potluck to be in the Sequim Bay Yacht Club room at John Wayne Marine. There will be good food, 'Cuz that's what the C-Brats do. There will be a guest speaker, and There are some prizes that will be presented over the weekend. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Don't forget, the tall ship, Hawaiian Chiefton will be in the area for the whole weekend.

If any of you coming to the Sequim Bay CBGT have a standard float plan that you use and would not mind sharing or showing, would you mind bringing that with you. Thought it might be interesting to toss the issue around a bit.

Here is a copy of the response I got from the LW/HC request for a schedule for the weekend of the Sequim Bay CBGT

In Sequim, we will have walk-on tours for Hawaiian Chieftain 9/11-23, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and 9/13-14, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We’ll also have Adventure Sails 9/13-14, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Lady Washington will be hauled out in Port Townsend during the Sequim visit for annual maintenance.

This is the response I got to a query re: the Hawaiian Chieftain access and activities that Joe sent to me. Don't think there would be any charge for running up along side and getting a picture of your boat there.

The long-range weather forecast is looking better all the time. This weekend's fine temperate weather is predicted to continue through next weekend! Hopefully, this will entice a few more Brats to sign up in the Event Signup section above.

Harvey, a couple of questions.

1. What is happening Friday night? Traditionally this is a dinner at a restaurant. If so, do you have transportation lined up? If not, do you have something else planned?

2. Will there be dockside power available to run a slow cooker for the potluck? If not is there some place where I can burn charcoal?

3. What is planned, if anything, for Saturday day?

4. What is the plan for Sunday morning's breakfast?

Hi Warren,

The plans for Friday night are to have dinner in a group area at the State Park. Fresh Corn on the Cob, Hot Dogs, Salad and Dessert. Harvey is getting firewood.

Saturday is free time after breakfast is provided on the dock. The Hawaiian Chieftain will be at John Wayne Marina, Lots of wildlife to see on the Dungeness Spit and Sequim and Discovery Bays to explore. We'll have vehicles available for those who want to explore Sequim, the Lavender Capitol of the US.

We can drop off your slow cooker at the SBYC Clubroom to cook during the day. No power on the dock.

The Oak Table in Sequim was a big hit last year for breakfast. We thought we would do it again.

it sounds like the Sequimers have done a helluva job of organizing this event, looking forward to it.

Anybody have any thoughts on the fishing up there, specifically bottom fish? Any fish in the bays that a person might chase from a kayak?

Men make plans.
The gods laugh.
We just had Portland Marine Electronics install a new Garmin nav-radar-sonar system and rewire the batteries. They did a pretty good job on the Garmin system though they miscalibrated the fluxgate compass and the radar overlay dosen't match the gps chart. They didn't finish the battery wiring and we lost the power in the house battery in the San Juans. We navigated back to Bellingham without nav lights, horn, gps, speedometer, depth sounder, electric bilge pump and vhf radio. Of course the Wallas cook top quit without enough voltage. After we got home and hooked the battery up to the charger I tried the Wallas and smoke came out from under it and it sounded like the fan was squealing and vibrating.
We'll get started on finishing PME's sloppy work today. We don't know what we're gonna do with the rest of the vacation, it's possible the boating may be done with. We will take a motorcycle ride to get that vacation feeling back and see what happens next.

Toni and I have been in the San Juans for two weeks and are thinking of trailering out of Bellingham on Friday to Keystone and then take the ferry to Port Townsend then on to Sequim by afternoon. Does this sound like a reasonable plan? Irregardless we are signing up and hope there will be a slip for us, we are looking forward to seeing everyone.
Oh, and where exactly is it and where is the ramp? We are not familiar with the area do we need specific directions?
 
Reservations are required for all vehicles. The way it works, as I recall from what someone told me, is that if you don't make your reservation days ahead of time, you can call at some ungodly hour like 4:30 AM day of and make a reservation then. I am sure the website has all the gory details.
