St. Mary's Fall Festival: Polka Mass (fun), lords acre craft/produce sale, lunch at the church, all around a great day to be in Guttenberg, Iowa.
Here is a special note from Tex and Sharon;
We are thinking about leaving Sunday in the C- dory and running north on the river for a few days, perhaps as far as the twin cities.
The part of the river from the Twin cities south was one of our favorites when we did the entire length from the headwaters to New Orleans 2 years ago.
Anyone is welcome to join us on the trip north. We have no set itinerary, Just north for 3 or 4 days and 3 days back to Guttenberg. It is 225 river miles to St. Paul. If we can go at least 55- 60 miles a day we should make St. Paul. We usually can make 50-60 miles a day in our houseboat that has a top speed of 8, so it should not be a problem in the C Dory. If we dabble at points of interest along the way and don't make it all the way to St Paul, that's fine too. Because we know a place not far from the marina in St. Paul that has a very tasty grilled Walleye dinner, we are at least going to try to make it that far..
After our return to Guttenberg we are trailering west for the Lake Powell C-Brat gathering and anyone is welcome to tag along to Lake Powell as well.

The Upper Mississippi is one of the fine cruises in America. Holding a Gathering at Guttenberg, Iowa is a marvelous idea. It would focus attention on the Mississippi and give folks with access and an interest in the River a chance to meet and share experiences and friendship.
For those contemplating attending such a Gathering, we would suggest a perusal of the following threads about cruising the Upper Mississippi:
http://cruisingamerica-halcyondays.com/towns.htm - This is a tale about the history of towns along the Upper Mississippi.
http://cruisingamerica-halcyondays.com/missgeo.htm - And this is a tale of the geology that is the reason for the Mississippi River.
http://cruisingamerica-halcyondays.com/mwgath.htm - and this is an account of the First MidWest C-Dory Gathering. A little history.
Keep up the idea of another Mississippi Gathering - it will be a great shared time together in a wonderful part of the country.

NOTES:
Swap/Sell table:
Bring any C-Dory/Boating related Items to be left at the “SELL/SWAP” table (items must be tagged with owners name etc. Transactions are entirely between the seller and interested buyer).
Navigating the Mississippi:
Being in the channel on the Mississippi River means staying between the red and green buoys.
Nun Buoy: These cone-shaped buoys are always marked with red markings and even numbers. They mark the edge of the channel on your starboard (right) side when entering from open sea or heading upstream.
Can Buoy: These cylindrical-shaped buoys are always marked with green markings and odd numbers. They mark the edge of the channel on your port (left) side when entering from open sea or heading upstream.
We look forwardward to welcoming you all to our home in Guttenberg, Iowa.
Best regards,
Ron, Connie & Bear Fisher
