09/09 - 09/11 - Sequim Bay Gathering

Before Roger Bumgarner catches my mistake, I want to correct it in my last post. I used 20 gallons for the trip to Sequim instead of the 14 gallons I indicated. The 14 was what I had left in one tank.

Robbi – it was around 12:30. I passed under the bridge between the west support columns and the shore. I was heading toward the east shoreline of Hope Island then turned to the gap between McNeil Island and Anderson Island. I had my blue camper back up on the boat. Every time I am in the Sound between the Narrows Bridge and Nisqually, I keep an eye out for you but have never seen you. It never occurred to me you may be on the beach. Which side were you on?

Tanya, Hannah, and I greatly enjoyed attending this year's Sequim Gathering. It was wonderful spending time visiting and hanging out with all those who attended.

Many thanks to Roger, Janet, and Harvey for setting up the CBGT. Also, thanks to the others (such as Crazy Frazey and the Morgans) who also helped with the shuttling of folks around.

Sorry we had to depart early Sunday AM and did not get to enjoy breakfast with the gang at the Oak Table.

The weather Gods were indeed extremely gracious the whole weekend. Hard to believe we are already in mid September and likely will not see many of the Brats again until the 2012 SBS.

I honked and waved thinking one could be Joe and Ruth. Did not see the names of any of the boats. Another Ranger Tug was just east of Kingston and one north of Blake Island. I saw a 19 C-Dory here also. The last Ranger Tug was spotted just south of McNeil Island.

Thanks for thinking of us, Dave. We left Bremerton @6:30 am Sunday. Passed Port Townsend @ 10:15 (we were by ourselves). Looked for C-Dorys. Even put a call out on the radio but no one answered. Sure missed seeing and visiting with everyone at the Sequim CBGT but we did have a good time at Bremerton especially getting to visit with former C-Dory owners, Russ & Toni (TRAVELER) and Capt. Mac. Weather was fantastic. Still recovering from the journey.

Yep...that was us! Arrived home at Tigard around 2:10 pm and our friend Joe was towing a 22 SeaSport with a red dodge truck which may have been who you saw. If you were past the Rochester area it may have Larry and Cathy on C-Ya.

Hope you had fun down our way!

That was fun, we got home about 8pm tonight. Had a blast at the gathering after running on flat seas from la conner. Sunday we fished in front of sequim and landed one small silver but watched several schools of pinks or silvers swimming along the surface. very cool to see a hundred plus fish at a time.

completely flat water from sequim to Friday harbor. Parked next to Roger and Cheryl in their new to them 25. Dave heard we where coming a left before we got there. Dinner on the boat then a movie in town.

This morning they were calling for small craft warning is the straits but when we rounded salmon bank it was smooth to eagle point to fish. No catching today for us or anyone there. We turned and ran from there to la conner via deception pass on completely flat water.

71 gallons and 170 miles for a 2.34 mpg total. mostly at 23 to 29 mph.
 
Roger and Janet,

Thanks for doing all the arranging, groceries and info board. You did great. And thanks for posting that picture. It is a winner. And Remember, we will. And remember a really nice weekend.

Good to get to see everyone. What a day on the water Sunday. I was out past the Sequim bay outer marker when Capital Sea, and Susan E ran out. Tried both 68 and 16 but couldn't turn up the volume from my end. You all looked good. Dreamer sure looks fast, even just sitting listening to the game.

Had to quit that beautiful water and go home to get to work -- Sorry.

Dave, I was about 1/2 mile south of the bridge on the west side. You passed right in front of me, only thing is, I didn't so YOU! I saw a boat without a camper back on the east side. :oops:

That was me in the 19 by Blake island. 60 plus Rangers at their gathering....!!! How does that compare to Sequim??
Called for R-matey but got no answer.

Rob,

I am sure Roger and/or Harvey will be able to give the actual count (afraid I never really checked), but I would say we had perhaps 8 to 10 C-Dory's attend plus a 'cousin' boat (Sea Sport out of Oregon).

As far as C-Dory models attending the Sequim Bay CBGT, we had a stretch 16 (now 18 foot), 22's, a 23, a 25, a Tomcat, and a 27 at the dock at various times.

Comparing the traditonally smaller Sequim Gathering to the Bremerton Ranger Gathering is a bit like comparing apples and oranges though since there were other C-Dory Gathering going on at both Lake Roosevelt and Guttenberg Iowa the same time as the Sequim Gathering. Additionally, others were likely heading - or preparing to head - towards Lake Powell for the Gathering there on 9/24.

Additionally, I believe Bremerton is the lone annual Ranger Gathering while C-Dory Gatherings take place across the country at various times.

Still, 60 Ranger Tugs all together is a real impressive number. I am sure the Bremerton marina looked gorgeous with so many beautiful Tugs attending!

The sign up sheet now represents the boats there plus one (C-Esta) that stayed home. So 11 C-Dorys and one cousin Sea Sport.
