Don, so glad you will be there! Got your email on the ALS Walk, you can put us down for something, need to chat with Patty but we are so there for Dee, and for Patty's dad Gene, who passed from ALS as well. We love you guys!

Per the admiral (the wife) our destination prior to arriving at the Sydney Gathering will be Nanaimo. Depending on weather we will hopefully be able to arrive in Nanaimo on 9/2 or 9/3 eventually winding up back in Sydney on 9/5.

Since we have never been to Nanaimo previously, any words of wisdom such as what marina to try to stay in or such? Restaurants? Any tips or suggestions on anything Nanaimo related would be appreciated.

Is Ladysmith a worthwhile stopover?

We have been as far north as Chemainus and Thetis Island but never past there.

Thanks,
Dan & Tanya on C-Renity (dogless this trip)

Hi Dan. Good to hear you're hitting town. Right downtown the Port authority is good dockage. $1.25ft plus power. Nice facilities close to everything. Many restaurants. Lighthouse Bistro right there is a favorite. A couple more floating ones in the marina as well as famous Dinghy Dock a short boat ride away. Newcastle park is a good overniter. Either anchor or dock. Nice facilities for restrooms/shower. Ladysmith town is fun. Should be moorage at the new maritime center. One favorite anchorage is behind the island off the first nation village half way in. I think it's behind Dunsmuir Island. Chemainus is really cleaned up and worth a visit. When in Nanaimo let us know. We're at Newcastle marina till 3rd when we head for Sidney. Enjoy. George

Dan - well, I am biased, but here is what we do. Stay at Newcastle Island Marine Park, and dinghy over to Nanaimo (OK, too far to row, you need a little outboard on your dinghy), or take the water taxi (preferred). Newcastle Island is just our favorite little spot, be sure to take a hike around the island!

Thanks George, Pat, and Mike for your comments. Really appreciate it.

I had gone thru and re-read the posts from George's hosting of the Nanaimo Gathering back in 2009 I believe so it sounds like many of the then good suggestions are still valid.

Will give you guys a yell if we make it there before the 3rd George.

Thanks again and looking forward to seeing everybody at Sydney or sooner!

Stay safe out there.

Take care,
Dan & Tanya on C-Renity (sans Hannah)

Thanks Pat for your support. Looking forward to visiting with you and Patty at the gathering.

Great! Looking forward to seeing you again and chatting about your round the island trip. Want to say anything about it at the potluck? Appropriately, you are boat #20 to register!

I'd love to share about the trip informally with people who are interested, but I'll save the presentation for the Seattle Boat Show.

Also, please sign me up for the dinner on Friday.

Mike do you need us to Bring the C-Dory group picnic supplies?

they consist of paper plates , napkins , utensils cups etc for the pot luck. There is also a large coffee thermos now and coffee cups.

we are bringing the C-dory banner and the kitty.
