09/06 - 09/08 - Vancouver Island Gathering 2013

I went up to the Marina and had a look around and chatted with the office staff. They seem to know about us now!. H dock looks pretty nice. I will upload some pictures soon. There are now 14 of us registered and all are on H dock now! The event tent looks pretty nice too!
Customs is on G dock.

Some plans and ideas for the weekend...

I am working Thursday and Friday, but will probably pop up to the marina Thursday afternoon after work to check in on any early arrivals. I am done work at noon on Friday, so will bring Natural C-lection up that afternoon from Victoria (unless I decide to bring it up earlier in the week and drive up!)

Things to do nearby:
Shaw Ocean Centre -nice aquarium right near the marina
Beacon Avenue - great little shopping/browsing street
Butchart Gardens - not too far away, but the peninsula shuttle stops operating the weekend before. (their page has some other suggestions on places to visit though: http://www.peninsulashuttle.ca/in-and-around-the-peninsula.html

Aircraft museum(s) near the airport
I am working on a West Marine visit for Saturday morning

Eating plans:
Friday night - Fish on 5th? Any other suggestions?
Saturday night - pot luck in the event tent?
Any other requests or suggestions?
The RumRunner pub is right by the marina.

Other ideas
A day/afternoon trip over to Sidney Spit or Rum or D'Arcy Islands?[/url]

Hi peter, I just looked at the map, but the font is too small for me to see any numbers. http://www.portsidney.com/marina-map/

I pulled up the map, went to settings and zoomed in. For example, as you look at the map on the screen, my H-19 is halfway along on the right, stbd side too.
The lower numbers are nearer the main walkway, the higher numbers are nearer the breakwater entrance.

Martin.

Good work on the choices Mike. Should be something for everyone. I like the chippy Friday night, calling in at the pub on the way back. West Marine Sat morning. Pot luck supper Sat evening. Back to the pub after supper. Don't need any more exercise, walking from "H" dock will do for me

Just counted the number of signups for this gathering. 21 (well, two lucky fish is counted twice) but that's alright, Julia adds at least enough fun to the group to be counted all by herself Tim :) . And...Tah Dah, there are nine, count-em nine Canadians signed up. Congratulations Mike

I hope the number that have signed up on this forum is the same number that have registered with Sidney Marina? Mike has told us several times to get registered with the marina and they will assign you your slip number, but 'Murphy' say's that someone will always overlook or forget to do it!

Martin.

Hi Mike,

I'm looking forward to the best chippy in the PNW, "Fish on Fifth" on the Friday evening. You mentioned earlier that they can seat 50. Are you going to book some seats off so that we can have supper together as a group? If so, please put me down for 2.

Cheers,
Martin.

We are registered for slip H-32 arriving Friday and departing Sunday. Please put us down for the "chippy" on Friday.

We are planning to leave on the Monday prior and on the way to Sidney visit some of our favorite places in the San Juans. We may stay over in Friday Harbor on the way home. Anyone else doing the same?

Warren

Two Bears has been assigned H-13 and plan to arrive after noon on Friday.

We have two weeks after the gathering with no special plans. Might go to the B Gardens, mess around in the Gulf Islands or ?? depending on weather & ??
