08/19 - 08/25 - Adventure in Paradise - Catalina Island 2007

We will cross over early Saturday or Sunday morning with Kimiko and the dogs. I'll have to return Kimiko to her paying job on Monday, and the dogs to my back yard. Whether I can return to paradise Tues or Wed. alone for the balance of the week will depend on my own job demands. Sorry I can' commit with certainty, but that's my career I can tell you I am eager to fish the island and would love to relax and party with you guys. I caught a nice yellowtail last August between Bird Rock and Harbor Reef in about 98 feet of water at about 8:00 AM. Spotted on the fish finder a group of four or five large fish breezing through that channel. Dropped a pink Storm plastic swim bait and one of them took it while I was unsnarling my reel. Didn't even notice until I was done and started cranking! The fish must have chomped hard to get himself hooked! ~ Keith

There will be three of us on Discovery. We are bringing our 14 year old Grandson, Cody.

We should launch Sunday at MDR and overnight at Chase Park, then cruise to Catalina with the group on Monday.

What is the latest on long term parking at MDR? Don't need the problems we experienced in 2005 again.

That's why we will be cruising down straight from Channel Islands Harbor.

Kath and I (Pounder), and John and Robbin (Dinner Belle II) will be coming down Sunday to MDR. Will be going over with group Monday morning.

Looking forward to the next BIG ISLAND party!!

I've had no parking problems for past several times I've parked greater than 2 days. I use a credit card, have to pass it thru each time for a 1 day ticket. Just do it 6 or 7 times depending on length. Sometimes it locks out your card after 4 times -- then switch to another. Or....have lots of $7.00 increments ready to feed THE MACHINE... Bring a couple of clothespins to tie together and display all tickets on dash, they'll give you a ticket if they can't read the time and dates.

My son and I would like to request a dive of Eagle Reef this year if conditions allow. We've never done it, but watched the year before we were certified (nuts?).

Sue and I will be following Fishtales from Channel Islands.... I need to keep an eye on him.... he catches way too many fish....

Joel ans Susan... Still in the mountains..

Hello everyone,

Seeing most of the fun is during the week and I am unable to be there at that time, I was wondering which week-end would be best to run into a few of you there at Cat?
Would the week-end of the 18/19th or the week-end of the 25/26th be my best shot?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff. Kimiko and I will leave the 18th or 19th and return early Tuesday morning. Join us if you want. Moorings might be tight for Saturday night however I think we'll get in. Bring two anchors in case we have to anchor over by the camp site. Last year, the group had a beach barbecue on Monday evening after everyone arrived that morning. Most of the group returns together Saturday morning the 25th... a tired bunch eager to hit the road. Another idea is to take C-Pelican out on the Bay Sunday and greet everyone at the MDR guest dock before pulling the boat out to drive home. They're usually eating chinese take-out and enjoying libation hour together on the dock. Sometimes we see how many people in a cockpit it takes to start a 25 ft CD to sink below its scoopers and get people's feet wet...
Be well ~ Keith, C-Pup

Time is just flying by.....almost time for Catalina. Let the fun begin!!

Some of us, as usual, will meet in Marina Del Rey on Sunday, 8/19 and head to Two Harbors, en masse, in the morning on Monday.

Monday night - Beach Barbecue - main course is on me, everyone else brings extras.
Tuesday - Kick back, get on "island time".
Wednesday - Fishing Tourney to Santa Barbara Island or......?
Thursday - Dingy Race, SCUBA, snorkling
Friday - Hiking, touring, resturant dinner in evening

Have been hoping for some dealer and factory participation, but am not holding my breath.

Looks like the northwest portion of San Clemente will be open for fishing on Wednesday 8/22 according to the Navy's schedule at this time- liable to change. We can check the status and the weather on Tuesday night.

Mike-

We are really looking forward to the "Adventure in Paradise". I will bring a fruit salad for the BBQ, unless you would prefer something else. Just let me know. We are excited about seeing everyone again.

Dixie and Brent

Is it too late for Gizmo to join in on the Catalina Cruise? Maybe follow Rodger and Fishtails from Channel Isl. Harbor? Join up with Sea Pup? !6' doesn't take up much room and I have two anchors. What you say? :)

Hi Steve,
We will be cruising to Two Harbors from Channel Islands Harbor on Sunday early- hope to leave around 0800 and arrive around 1200.
Sea3PO and Islander (maybe) will be cruising with us.
This is a 65 nm run across open water and the shipping lanes.
You are welcome to join us if you want.

I can do the potatoes again, now that I know the 'secret'! Still a bit of touch and go on when they'll release me and for how long at work, so far so good...

Hi everyone,

Who is going to be staying at Chase Park at MDR on Sunday night? We will be there early afternoon on Sunday and will we have any problem getting a spot at the overnight dock? We could call ahead if necessary-- What do you MDR experienced C-Brats think? I was really hoping we could do the water taxi ride to the CheeseCake Factory with Roger and PJ--sounds like that's out. Mike, should we call before arriving?

Steve Grover- if you want to start from MDR, come and stay with us on Sunday night. It's a shorter water run from there than from Channel Islands Harbor--and you already know how fun we are from our limited together time at Lake Powell.

Thanks,

Dixie and Brent
