08/17 - Gulf Islands, Part Two

Hello Brats
It's that time of year again, my vacation time is scheduled. Rock-C and crew will be returning to the Gulf Is. again this summer. I wanted to see if there is any interest in a group cruise.
Last year we had fifteen boats join in at one time or another. One thing I learned from that experience, everyone has their own idea of the ideal cruise. Some like to stay in a marina, some like to anchor out. Some like to travel great distances, others like to go slow and explore all the little coves. It's all good.
What I think would work, is to have a set time and place to meet-up every few days. That way each boat can stay together as a group or go off and explore on their own.
The best part of last year cruise was when all got together at the docks at Newcastle Is, and again at Montigue Harbor.
Rock-C will be leaving for Sucia after the Bellimgham gathering, then on to the Gulf Islands. We will be staying around the southern part of the Islands.....Pender, Saturna, Mayne, Cabbage........
I will be using Port Browning as a base for resupply and for showers. There is a good grocery and hardware store about a half hour walk from the marina.
I hope you can break free to join us this summer.

OK, Gulf Islands redux! Departing Bellingham Sunday, August 17th, right after my birthday party August 16th! So much to consider, not enough vacation time! San Juans in May between Friday Harbor and Anacortes, Gulf Islands in August, Lake Powell in September...

OK, we have talked this over. Not going to do the May week after Friday Harbor, probably Lake Powell in September, but we definitely are there for a week in the Gulf Islands after Bellingham! Lets get a sign up going!

Terry:

We had a blast last year and are looking forward to the Gulf Islands this year as well. August feels far away... right about now... in the dark, cold, wet, and wind...but it will be here before you know it. :D

Last year was great fun - I would like to go to Bellingham SBGT then head up to the Gulfs' - with you.

I thought it might be interesting to go to Prince Louisa Marine Park - if some are interested and time permits. I do like your ideas of cruising at various speeds and then meeting up at certain points. I think I might need 6 weeks in August this year.

Thanks for getting this started.

Terry, do you have a reshoot scheduled with the Waggoner folks. :smiled (Waggoner's 2008 p-152)
We are coming up for the FHCBGT and going to try to get to the Bellingham gathering also. Sometime over summer planning on Princes Louisa but only for a few days. Would be fun to have a C-Dory presence up there.

Terry & Ann,

Thanks for getting this thread started. Will have to recuperate for a day or so after the B'Ham CBGT but will join up with you somewhere out there. We had such a good time last year :thup

C-Cakes and crew would like to join this outing. It depends on the work monster as to how much crew and how long but we'll be there one way or t'other.

C-Run would also like to join up somewhere along the way. My problem is that the earliest that I could set out would be Wed the 20th.There is a good ebb tide starting about 8am which will help get north a bit faster. Are any boats planning on staying beyond the weekend of the 23-24th?

It looks like a party is starting to shape up :thup

I feel the same. Thinking about our summer plans helps clear my head of all this rain.

Thanks for the heads up about Waggoners. We stoped at Boaters World in Portland on the way home from the boat show. They only had the 2007 issue. So I still havn't seen the picture. :photo

Terry:

Not positive if this the picture in the Waggoner Guide, but I found it on their site.

That's the one from Waggoner's! Rock-C crew in the dinghy, the boat I THINK IS Cast Away. So, we better alert Bob Hale - we'll be out again IN FORCE for another Waggoner's pic!

Thanks for posting this photo. When it was taken we were told it'd be on Waggoner's website. I just never got around to seeing if it was there. Our dingy isn't visible but that's Joe behind Terry and I'm waving.

we are going up to telegraph cove aug 2-7 then to quatsino sound aug 8-13ish but would love to hook up with you c-brats after that. we haven't been to a get together yet. might be able to make bellingham but if not could hook up with you guys in the gulfs or jervis inlet. will watch for any more info. jamie&denise

I am just guessing here, but probably most folks are NOT going to make it to Jervis Inlet and will be hanging around the southern Gulf Islands after Bellingham...don't know about the others but we will most likely be somewhere between Sidney Spit and Conover Cove...

hey jamie&denise
just wondering where you launch in quatsino sound ,coal harbour or maybe port alice always wanted to go to port alice but haven't made it there yet
cheers Dave

blackfish there is a good launch at coal harbour, it is a floatplane ramp that is also used as a boat launch. you can also park there. there is another launch site at the end of rupert arm but would have to give very explicit directions. the ramp at coal harbour was originally used to drag up dead whales back when we were neaderthals! better use now.
