08/17 - 08/23 - 2008 Catalina Island Adventure in Paradise

Hi Ron,
It's a little over a week until the big send off day and we just noticed (sorry) that you posted a request for the Monday Night tri tip bbq sign ups. Sorry....We will provide a green salad, if that's alright. A body count would be nice. Looking forward to seeing everyone AND your new boat.

Pat and Steve will bring the desert and maybe some veggies 8). Need a head count.... Is there a bar-b-q available to heat up veggies? I could bring the cobb :D .

Steve (Grover),

Yes, there are BBQ's, probably will have 2 going for this feast. I don't know the exact head count, but 11 boats are signed up, so figure approx 22 people.

I found the following information on launching from MDR. I haven't launched from there before but might be up to it to meet people for dinner and have a new experience. :?: Can anybody verify this information that has launched there before?

http://www.visitmarina.com/boating/localharbor#anchor009235

Marina del Rey public boat launch ramp is located at 13477 Fiji Way (Basin H). Enter the lot from Fiji Way, one block west of Lincoln Boulevard.

Fees: The fee for parking your car and trailer is $7.00 for each 24 hours, paid on the Pay Machine located at the entrance, which accepts dollar bills, coins, credit, and ATM/debit cards. This fee includes launching, recovery, and 24-hour parking. If staying over 24 hours and up to 48 hours, you will need to pay the entry fee twice and clearly display the receipts printed side up on the left side of your dashboard.

An extension for parking beyond 48 hours must be granted by the Parking Division of the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches & Harbors. You will need to purchase one permit for each 24-hour period that you will be parked, and place all receipts face up, side by side, on your dashboard. Although the dates will be the same on the permits, if placed side by side on your dashboard, the Department's parking control officers will account for each 24-hour period. You are required to register with the Department by calling 310-305-9534, Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Be prepared to follow the voice mail prompts and provide the following information:
1. Your name
2. Description of vehicle
3. Car and trailer license plate numbers
4. Arrival and departure dates.
5. Your phone number
6. Reason for extension over 48 hours.

We are packing up the Salty Cs for quick 2 nighter at the Isthmus. We thought we'd better give the locals a heads up for things to come next week. Any requests for weather, water-temp, etc. will be given to the proper department. Let us know. See you all in a week.

Your info is correct- make damn- er- darn sure you call and notify them of the extended stay or you WILL have several tickets on your windshield when you return :amgry :amgry :amgry

The lot attendants don't speak or understand english :amgry :amgry

Mpmccoy,

Thanks for posting the MDR parking requirements. For the last couple of years I've just purchased all the 24 hr periods with my Master Card and spread them out on the dash -- I use a couple of clothes pins to keep them print side up (very curly paper). I haven't called that number, but I will this time. Thanks again.

Ron-

Unless we hear otherwise, Kath says we will bring the green salad and dressing like we have in years past since no one has signed up for that dish.

Ron-

Strike that, I see our good friends Sam and Kerry have already signed up for the green salad. Maybe we will bring pre dinner snacks.

Then we'll hike up the road for pizza. Kimiko wants to sleep in our king size bed at home Sunday night so we'll launch early Monday AM. Any plan for a barbecue on the beach Monday evening? I'll take Kimiko and the dogs home Wednesday and return Thursday for fishing. I want to catch another yellowtail like I did in 2006 in sight of the Two Harbor moorings.

Sorry! I should have read the prior posts 1st! I was rushing to go to work when I wrote my last post asking about the food Monday night. Kimiko will make her Japanese sweet rice in tofu sacks (Japanese "inari-sushi... no fish).

A suggestion for the parking receipts at MDR's boat ramp... bring scotch tape to keep them from curling in the sun. Be sure you have the date facing up. There is an English speaking man who works the gate on weekends from 5AM. He will offer scotch tape if you forget it. $7/day for trailers, I think $3/day for just cars. FYI to newbies, there are two West Marine stores in MDR. The on on Fiji Way past the entry to the boat ramp is where you go with a trailer hitched to your car. The other is in a shopping center where entering the parking lot with a trailer would mean you might miss the week waiting to get out, either because of traffic or because your lady co-captain sees "sale" signs in store windows.

Mike... I like your picture! You look very Olympian. On the first link you offered, I was looking and looking for you in pictures. I thought... maybe that guy behind the machine gun, but finally decided you must be that photo captioned "Salty".

Ron... Lobsterboat Man... I can't wait to see your new "C-Dory on Steroids". Of course you're always welcomed to C-Dory events! You'll make it easy for us to follow the leader!

To my friends who cruised before... I'm eager to see you all again and to those new to the "Week In Paradise", I welcome you and look forward to getting to know you all.

Keith,

It will be good to see you and Kimiko again....
