07/31 - 08/02 - Nanaimo, British Columbia

 It looks like we are going to have a party! The Boat US membership should get you a discount. The marina has fewer and fewer fish boats all the time. As soon as we get an approximate number of folks I'll let Dave at the Harbour know and we can start reserving.
The docks are pretty nice.
Let's go for it. George :thup

My family and I would like to attend also! This would be our first trip to Nanaimo and our first to Canada by boat. All very exciting.

I'm like Grumpy, a former C-Dory owner but the 'beer can boat' likes to hang with C-Dorys...we'll do our best to blend in. :-)

Well okie-dokie then! We have our reservation, and you all should make yours - Tabitha says everyone in a group needs to make their own separate reservation, and they do get busy that weekend! Here is her email with the phone number to call in your reservation (I told her the name of the group was "C-Dory").

Hi Pat

Thanks for the reservation inquiry, there is space available for July 31- Aug 1, although a credit card number is required to hold the reservation. This may be phoned into the Wharfinger office at 250-754-5053, open 7 am till 11 pm 7 days a week. If you have any further questions please contact the Wharfinger office or visit the website at www.npa.ca

Thanks again
Tabitha

Way to go Pat! I was just coming on to give out that info! Keener. Like Pat says just give Tabitha a call at 250-754-5053 with boat name and length and if you want power. The reserve name is C-Dory. July 31 to Aug 2. They will endeavor to keep us all together. Do call soon as possible as it is a busy weekend. Looking forward to meeting you all. Will provide more details soon, George : :D

Hi all I just checked on a couple of things. The wharfinger is open starting at 8am for early arrivals. Customs clearance is available in the basin, and they don't have an affiliation with Boat/US on moorage. Fuel and water is on site.
Start calling in those reservations!
George

Just called in and made our reservations. My dad's family lived in this area for many years. I am really looking forward to visiting and doing some exploring.

Thanks George, for setting this up :thup

Awesome Joe and Ruth look forward to seeing you. I reserved this morning also so we have some signed up already. We'll have a blast! George :

Now, George - the BIG question! What are we all doing Saturday night? Usually at the US CBGTs we do a potluck, and that might work but I don't seem to recall a picnic shelter we could use right down on the docks there, so maybe something else????

All,

Just made reservations for July 30 - Aug 3 in Nanaimo. We are still planning our 6 week July/August trip from B-Ham to Elfin Cove in Southeast Alaska so this is our plan B.

We spent several nights in Nanaimo after the B-Ham and Gulf Islands cruise last year on our way up to Princess Louisa and loved the harbour.

For plan B we would start out the week of July 20th doing some crabbing on Whidbey Island, trailer up to B-Ham for the gathering on the 24th, head over to Poet's cove for a customs visit, spend a few days in Victoria and work our way up to Nanaimo for the next gathering. Maybe hit Genoa or Montague for some crabbing on the way up to Nanaimo. After that spend the next 2 weeks on up into Princess Louisa and The Broughtons. Not bad for plan B.

Are others planning heading north after Nanaimo?

This one is on the books. The Signup list is in place and your gracious northern host has been tapped as the Cruise Director. The international cruise sounds fantastic!

Whatever we do, we must remember to hoist one for Ron and Anne on Meander! Vancouverites cut loose, fancy free - damn, I am envious! (I am also, of course, grateful for having a bill-paying, bona fide, JOB these in these crazy times!).

 Great question on the potluck. A couple of things so far, there is a pavilion on the property I'm waiting to hear if it is available or we can set up tables near the walkway where we've held boat show booths in the past. I'm working with David and Tabitha on this one. I'm sure I'll locate a spot and we can do a pot luck. Also will forward ideas on restuarants etc. There are many right close. Great to see the enthusiasm so far. :D

Thanks George for promoting this gathering.
I perminantely moore my 2009 23 Venture in Nanaimo Harbour. My wife and I have reserved space at the government dock for Saturday Aug. 1st under the group name C-Dory. We are really looking forward to meeting more C-Brats. This site has been an awesome learning resource and I highly respect the comradery, sharing of knowledge and experiences. We are really pleased with all the aspects our 23 Venture. I'm also looking forward to talking more about boats and experiences while exploring our BC Coast.
Cheers :)

Hi Merv, getting out to the Crow and Gate would be spendy by cab it's about 20 minutes south of town, but a rental; car or mini van could be had from Budget car or Rent a wreck.
250-760-7368 for Budget and 250-753-6461 for Rent a wreck. (which actually rents nice cars) and or there may be enough local owners wanting to go and a car pool could work. The Budget shop rents a van for the day for something like $30.00 for moves so may be worth a call. Both of these places are right downtown very close to the Harbour. George
