07/27 - 07/29 - Comox, Vancouver Island, BC Gathering

Hi Gang,

The Comox gathering was the first one we have been to. Now I have had a couple of days to get my breath back and think about the week end. How fortunate we are to have a C-Brat family like ours. I felt it has brought Andrea and I closer to the C-Brats and how lucky we are to belong to a group of fun, caring, sharing people.
So for all of you who have never been to a gathering..........put it on your bucket list.

Martin.

Martin and Andrea,

Thank you so much for putting together such a splendid CBGT. We had so much fun visiting and eating (can't think of a single item that didn't taste good). Enjoyed the presentation by Dr. Brass. Jack, the young man was excellent with the guitar. And.....where else but at at C-BRAT gathering do our dear friends Jaime and Denise (ANONYMOUS) see to it that we got a historical tour of Comox and Cumberland, which included the cemetery that Ruthie wanted to visit. What a wonderful time we had. Again our thanks.

Martin and Andrea, thank you for such a well planned week-end. I have been to Comox several other times and always enjoy your town and area. We will look forward to your presence down south sometime next year. Trip back home of 125 nm was made in 9 hours at 14 kts. Got here at 3:30.

Martin and Andrea - thanks so much for a GREAT gathering! Everything was perfect!

After Comox, we went back to Nanaimo, then to Maple Bay, then to Tod Inlet (Butchart Gardens) and today to Matia Island, where I got this shot of the moon rising over Lummi Island!

Pat, I will be leaving GI about 9am heading for East Sound with my neighbors. Probably going through Peavine Pass. I will give you a call on 16/68 and or the Connie Repeater. Another great picture.

martin & andrea thanks so much for a great time. it was really nice to see everyone. we will try to make another gathering soon, they are a lot of fun. tom did you 2 get any fish on sunday? will get a trip together sometime.

Martin and Andrea...a huge mahalo for a fantastic get-together!! We had a great time and Comox is on our list when we are up that way again. We got back late yesterday and by the time we got the boat cleaned etc...it was an early night.

Back to the grind tomorrow.... :x

I would like to thank you all for the kind messages following the Comox Gathering. Andrea and I enjoyed every minute of it, and we are so glad that you did too. Only 'downer' was Patti & Barry's exploding door. Hope it is fixed soon.
Pleased to hear that all who were heading home have arrived safely, and those who are continuing their holiday, happy cruising.
We made many friends and look forward to seeing you in the future.

Martin & Andrea.

We are back home and at work and just want to go back to Comox for another week. What a great trip and gathering. I will now have to import under ageed entertainment from Canada for La Conner next year. What a great idea that was and a really great show by the young man.

Our trip included , but was not limited to, Ocras , 8 otters, sunsets, great people and two nice king salmon.

Thank you Anonymous for the fishing tip. Susans fish came from your tip about Hornby island and on one of your lures. Got it in the first 20 mintues. I need to get back on the water this weekend.

My fish we ate at the comox gathering. It went fast so I hope every one liked it, not my best cooking. the second one was served to my folks and tasted a lot better.

My blog of our entire cruise to/from Comox is posted here. There are two posts in July and two in August - first one in July is introductory, second one is Days 1 - 5. First one in August is Days 6 - 10, and second one is Days 11 - 15. Lots of pix!

Martin and Andrea, thanks so much for hosting what was our first C-Brats get together. We had a great time meeting everyone and being among boats our size.

Thanks also to Jamie for some tips on Discovery Passage and for providing ice for us all when we were leaving.

We carried on up Discovery Passage, through Seymour Narrows to Small Inlet at the top of Quadra Island. A great spot. We then moved on to Sonora Island, up Mayne Channel to Blind Bay Resort where we felt very small compared to the other boats in there. The boat across from us was watching the Olympics on their big screen TV and we couldn't even get cell coverage or WiFi.

We then followed Cordero Channel through all the Rapids, through Hole in the Wall to the Octupus Islands. Saw three Ranger Tugs there and spent our time watching an otter gorging itself.

Coming through Surge Narrows we saw two other C-Dory's Noddy Blue and Raincoast. They were heading up while we were coming down.

We spent a fretful night at Rebecca Spit in Drew Harbour. There was a very high tide that night and dozens of logs drifted off the beach and floated around us banging into the boat. It was also windy. We spent one more night in Ballet Bay before heading home.

It was a great experience and we got to put the 400 feet of line I bought to good use stern tying at anchor. I was also very happy with the Aye Tides application on my i-phone for timing the slack at the rapids was also glad to have Ports and Passes on board when my i-phone stopped working for awhile.

A bit late but a heartfelt thanks to both Martin and Andrea for a great gathering. As Pat and other folks have mentioned the bar for a CBGT was set a bit higher in Comox. We enjoyed meeting new folks as well as old friends. A special thanks to Andrea for shuttling Stacy from the airport.

We returned home on Sunday after putting 508 statute miles on the boat this trip. We enjoyed the journey with Daydream, Anna Leigh, and Amy Marie. What a great bunch of folks to share the journey. We also very much enjoyed the new ( to us) C-Change. No real significant issues except for a cracked mascerator impeller housing we discovered when we pumped overboard. Not fun :cry

We look forward to seeing everyone out one the water :D

Greetings ......
from the cockpit of Lady KC
on a beautiful Friday evening
here in New Bern, NC.
We arrived back home in Pinehurst on Tuesday evening.
Headed to the TomCat today and all seems to have weathered the last 50+ days quite well.
Expect to take her for a good run on Sunday.

Well Martin and Andrea........

a huge thanks for putting out the Canadian, British Columbia,
Comox red carpet for all of us C-Brats.
What a great time Karan and I had meeting and talking to other C-Dory owners.
What a memory it is for us on having all of the salmon on the dinner table.......plus the huge table full of yummmmmy food.
I am looking forward to receiving the best Cumberland recipe for Canadian Butter Tarts.
Tell Stuart MacKenzie we appreciated his cooking on the grill,
and Glenn Willis for his great smile and boating knowledge.
We both enjoyed renewing friendship with Bob & Patsy on Sea Pal, and getting the scoop on their Great Loop travels.

I am ready to take one of Martin's games to the
6th Annual NC Gathering next month. Wish we had just half of your door prizes.

AGAIN........many thanks to all.

For all of you who attended the Comox Gathering in 2012. You probably remember Jim Brass who gave us a talk at the potluck supper on SaR.
Jim died yesterday, in his mid-60s, probable heart attack. A good friend of mine and a generous man who loved boats and the boating community. He will be missed.

Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

Martin.
