07/27 - 07/29 - Comox, Vancouver Island, BC Gathering

Well, save the Trophy jokes for somebody else! My neighbors will be coming in their brand new Ranger 27! Saturday they bought the boat at the Seattle Boat Show, Sunday they went out and bought a lightly used Chevy 1 ton Duramax / Allison full bed, full cab pickup. Yesterday Patty went back to the boat show with them and they finalized changing a few features. Looks like they take delivery right after the boat show closes!

Pat,
Of course your friends on the Trophy will be made welcome. We will save the jokes until they arrive. ;o)

WOW, now your turn Pat and Patty.

Looks like our Ranger Tug Desolation Sound cruise starts on the 27th also.....decisions, decisions.

Hi all,

We have printed the dates clearer for the Comox gathering. It is Fri/Sat/Sun, 27/28/29 July. Some people thought it was only a one day event on the 28th. It is in fact a 3 day event. Sorry for any confusion.

Martin.

Martin and Andrea

I was really looking forward to meeting you both and many of the c-brat family. Turns out my kids organized a family reunion that same weekend. Hope all of you have a great time and I will be thinking of you. Thanks again for the invite.

H

I'm sure we will meet up another time. Life is good when we are so busy we can not fit every thing in. Have fun with your other family.

Martin.

I'm tentatively planning a trip down the west coast of Vancouver Island starting sometime the first week of August from Port Hardy. If any of you have the time, it would be cool to have several C-Dorys circumnavigate Vancouver Island.

Great Youtube vids, thanks for pointing us in the right direction. All this and lots more just one hour from our gathering in Comox.

I talked to the wharfinger today at the government dock and he has made a note of our arrival commencing 27th July. There are no reservations, they have been burnt in the past by 'no-shows'. But he will try and keep us all together. Late arrivals may have to raft up. Cost is 97 cents per foot. I tried to get us group discount, but being a government employee, he wouldn't play. It really helps (me and the wharfinger) if you sign up for this event in advance on this forum. You can always remove your name if your plans change.

I will send out full details closer to the time.

Martin.

I am assuming though that we can anchor near your place and dinghy in if we are not dock-type folks?

We have Comox on our calendar. That will be the first stop of our trip north. We haven't been past Nanaimo yet. Since Comox is 2/3 the way there, it seems this is our year to explore Desolation Sound. I have no set plans other than go slow and enjoy the scenery.
If anyone will be in the area at the time, we would love to meet up someplace.
I don't want to hi-jack this thread, so I'll start a new post for Desolation Sound 2012.
ps; I'm with Pat. I would rather anchor out than tie up at a dock, weather permitting.

Absolutely. Plenty of close in anchorage. Lots of dinghy tie-up space. I plan on posting full details one month before the gathering, so you all should have the info in plenty of time before setting out. In the meantime, I'm happy to answer any questions you may think of.

Martin and Andrea,
Thank you for your very gracious invitation to all the C-brats !! It's extremely generous of you. Did you have any idea that this would grow into the new social event of the West coast C-dory season ?!!! AND you were looking to see if 6 boats might be interested !!!

A note to the crew of Lady KC --- the crew of Sea Pal is looking forward to seeing you on the left coast THIS summer. So glad you will be in the neighborhood !!

Bob and Betsy

Hi Bill and Karan,

Glad you got booked into the motel ok. Its a decent place and affordable. You are less than a 10 min walk from the action. I'm, looking forward to meeting you both. There will be no problem hitching a ride with someone on the Sun morning cruise to Sandy Island.

Hi Bob and Betsy,

Well, I guess we will get more than 6 boats. We have 20 signed up. I have no idea how many will just show up unannouced, maybe we will hit the 30 mark. It is going to be fun. I have never been to a gathering before, so I'm sure this will be different from previous one's the old salts have been to.

Martin.

Yes, we will have a couple of Ranger 27s tagging along with us, hope that is OK!

Of course Ranger 27s are ok. We are all family. In fact my neighbour (the Wallas dealer) will be very interested to get a peek at a Ranger 27. Its top of his list when he converts from sail to power.

Martin,

As posted previously Carole and I will be attending this event. Now that the date is closer do you need any assistance in prep..etc. Carole and I could come earlier to assist. Let us know if we might be able to help.

The best,

Mike

Hi Mike and Carole,

Thank you for your offer of help. Most of the big stuff is organised, although I am sure there will be the last minute bits and pieces to attend to. Love to meet up with you for drinks and eats if you arrive a day or two early. I plan on putting out all the details of the gathering about four weeks before the event.

Martin.
