07/16 - 07/18 - Blakely Island

Hunky Dory Jeff, nice to hear from you. You really need to report in more frequently because me and the other Brat boys have been worried about you. Thought maybe a high tide had swallowed you and the critters.

Mosey on around the point to our Saturday night food and fun fest. It'll be good to see you again. By the by, check first with recently installed Apparel Compliance Director C-Loo about our new dress code.

I get in the truck tomorrow morning to head to Seattle (from NH). The boat gets launched next Thursday, and I hope to see some of you folks on Friday night. I will be very keen to see what kinds of modifications you've done, and equipment you are using, including dinghies and GPS for example.

See you soon.

Dave

BlackNorth Dave is fixin to ring up some serious mileage, hope he has a Ford diesel.

Was pondering the Saturday night potluck....thinks I'll whip up some fried rice, it goes good with most any other dish, the components travel well and it aint a big hassel to fix.

Hi All,
My answer to puget sound fishing is KISS (Keep it simple stupid) In other words use 3oz to 6oz lead tied on the end of your main line a 5 foot leader with sharp (Larry Helen O type sharp) size 4 or 5 salmon hooks and either frozen herring or a lure of your choice. With this method you can either troll or mooch for fish. It is not necessary to change when switching methods but if trolling I sometimes use a flasher of some sort about 2 feet down from the lead and cut my leader down to 36 inches. I usually start with 20 pulls of line out ( from front of reel to first eye is one pull of line out) and go 5 more every 15 to 30 minutes till fish hit then stay at that depth for a while.

We will be taking the C-Puffin from the Des Moines marina, where we've been hanging out for the last couple of weeks, up to her permanent home at Twin Bridges on Wednesday. We estimate that it will be a 4-5 hour trip up by water. On Friday morning we'll head over to Blakely for what I'm sure will be a great weekend. We've been exploring the south sound a bit before heading up north and had a great 4th of July weekend in Olympia and Gig Harbor. Can't wait to see everyone at Blakely. Winston is looking forward to seeing his fellow 4-legged friends and showing off his new boat.

Ken, I'm glad you asked. Didn't you people receive the programs I mailed? Alright, let me go over this one more time. Attendees are expected to don the traditional blue blazers and white slacks. Black shoes should be polished, hair slicked, nails clean and shorts fresh.
I don't know, CM - I like ya' and all, but I'm just not sure how comfortable I'd be with you inspecting my shorts. Particularly if you catch me on one of those short-less days... :smilep

Crabbing is already open in the Blakely Is area and is opening on Fri the 16th in the east 7 area where I live. I will be bringing the first of the seasons crab with me on Friday. I am also bringing one of the two kegs so am wondering who can bring a crab cooker? I don't remember who brought one to other events. Any takers?

We are bringing our boat over late Thursday to the Monroe plant for a slight repair before we head to Blakely on Friday. After our last retrieval at Cornet Bay following the Lopez Island weekend, we want to try a different launch point for Blakely. We have a bunk trailer, so the slings don't work well for us. I know this has been discussed in the past, but is Twin Bridges the consensus favorite for a ramp in the Anacortes area? Does it have a float adjacent to the ramp?

Someone mentioned leaving the car and trailer at the Twin Bridges Marina for security. Has anyone done this? How long a hike is it from there to the ramp? Do you know if Twin Bridges will still do this?

We launched at twinn bridges for the Lopez trip as did Brave Heart. It has a good ramp, a short dock and lots of parking. Last time I parked my truck at the marina, few hundred yards away, they charged $10. This time I plan to park by the ramp. It seemed safe, but then I'm not driving a new Dodge.
We are going to put in Wed. and spend about a week in the San Juans. The Blakley weekend will be a nice break. We will be monitoring 16 & 68 if anyone else plan to be up there early.

We're just about set to go. Got the boat washed, the truck washed, both of them loaded and hooked together. Plan is to head north on the highway about 6:00 in the morning, heading for Cornet Bay. Hey Dusty and Les - come on down and meet our kids!

Hey Mike,

Have a safe trip and leave a little room in the parking lot for us. We hope to get there early enough on Friday to motor on over. That's if I can find the launch ramp at Coronet Bay.

Tim

Not sure where they are or what their plans are, but I see Pam from True Story about once a month - she works at the Edward Jones office where I drop off my IRA contribution each month! They seem to follow the fish more than the folk...

Here is hoping that you all have a great time at Blakely.
I was planning to make the gathering but alas, work dictates something different.(hate it when work gets in the way)I am calling the marinea today to cancel our reservation .

Have a good time and hoist a cool one for me , :beer Eh

DAMN IT ALL, Roger, you can't let work interfere with your fun time like that....bummer, I always look forward to B.S.n the Sensei crew

Patty here. Roger!!! I sent Bill and El off this morning for their family reunion in Colorado. They left a little sewing job for me since you would be at Blakely and I could deliver the finished goods to you to put on Halcyon. Now what am I gonna do? I might have to figure out a way to meet them on the Columbia in August. Hey! That sounds like a plan!

Need some help,
Still don't know where the right launch ramp is in Coronet Bay. I see two locations with one west of E.Q., and the other east. Want to leave truck and trailer for the week starting with Friday night. I suppose I can look for the TyBoo truck cause mike always has the best answer.
