As Warren said, a few folks cruise on into the Canadian Gulf Islands after the event. I'm sure you would be welcome to join them. In that event, bring the passports! Welcome to the Brats. You'll love the event, put on by the best hosts on the coast!
 
You only need the passports if you make land fall, anchor, or come in contact with another vessel. So if you are just crusing into and out of, you don't need it. But you should have it.

Am I missing something?

The Bellingham event sign up has a 2009 date on it. Did I go through a time warp? I thought I had been there already.

Looking forward to the 2010 Bellingham CBGT. Hope we can get a peak at the new facility :wink

Is anyone heading north after Bellingham?
I'm not going to try and organize a "Gufl Island Cruise part 3 ", but, we are going north and it would be nice to buddy boat with some Brats, ( and Tugnuts, hint - hint
R-Matey , Sportner ).
I know it's still two months away, but I'm getting excited. Maybe not as much as Chris Mathews, but Bellingham will be the start of the boating season for the Rock-C crew.

The new Traveler will be doing a few days in the San Juans before heading down south Puget Sound, we are looking forward to some boating too, see you then.
 
We've really missed our friends in the C-Brats. It's been a long time since we've been able to attend a gathering. I've signed us up for this one.

I remember how crowded P dock is with C-Dory's and we would take up too much space. I called the Bellingham harbormaster and asked if we could reserve moorage close to P dock. He said that it was first come, first served, but if there was space he would put us directly across at the guest docks in front of Anthony's.

Looking forward to seeing all of you.

Hello! So good to hear from you; that you'll be able to make it to the B'Ham CBGT. PLEASE bring that nice eastern WA weather with you as we'll be having the potluck on the dock late Saturday afternoon. Barry (C-Cakes) has been instructed that he has to do the anti-rain dance for us (he's got "pull somewhere" what with beautiful weather at Friday Harbor for 3 CBGTs in a row!). See you next month.

Cruising the San Juan Islands is on my 'bucket list'. So, despite the 1600 mile distance from Phoenix, Diane and I intend to trailer our C-Dory 22 C-View to Bellingham, attend the gathering and spend some time cruising the islands. We've been to the Pacific Northwest with a motorhome, but this will be the first time in a boat. I have a cruising guide, paper charts and I will soon order the chart data for the GPS. I'm hoping that at the gathering, I can get some help in establishing a reasonable itinerary for our cruise. Knowing this group, I don't believe there will be any shortage of advice.

How imperative is it to take along our inflatable dinghy? We have an Achilles with an inflatable floor, but the radar is mounted directly on the roof (not on an arch), so I'm not sure I can carry it on the roof. If we decide to take the inflatable, how imperative is it to take along the 3 hp outboard? Are the expected distances short and rowing is practical? Remember, this is our first trip and we probably won't be all that adventurous.

Our daughter is in a somewhat high risk pregnancy, so something may happen to change our plans, but we're looking forward to making the trip and getting out of the heat in Phoenix.

Glad to have you coming. This event will make a great jumping off point.

As for the raft and motor. I just got a raft and motor, same size as yours, to make shore calls. It all depends on what type of trip you want to make. If you want to spend every night at a marina then no raft is needed. If you want to anchor out or spend time at park docks you may need a raft. Many times the park docks and some city or county docks are full and you can not get a shore with out a raft. I prefer to anchor out and use the raft to get to the dock or beach. really opens up your choices.

Choice one is the marinas. money and noise and people
Choice two is the public docks and parks, fewer people but no leaving and getting your spot back later.
Choice Three is a mooring buoy. off the dock and not people but no shore call with out a raft and if you leave you loose the buoy.
Choice four My favorite is my own anchor. I always have it, i can use it any where and at any time. Then take the raft a shore.
Your radar will work with your raft up side down over the top of it so don't worry and bring it.

Welcome to the C-Brats. Looking forward to meeting you when you arrive in Bellingham. Please bring some Arizona sunshine with you!

Starcrafttom is right about all of the reasons to bring your dinghy. Can't comment about the motor as we don't have one. Most of our rowing distances have been short ones when we've anchored out.

Latest B'HAM CBGT Update:

We stopped by the C-Dory factory last week when we were up in Ferndale. Invited the Lindhouts to the B'Ham CBGT. Hopefully it will fit into their schedule as they're pretty busy up there.

Checked with the Squalicum Port Office and they still have a shuttle should someone need to go shopping, etc. That service is available from around 10am to 6pm.

Stacy and I are planning on heading north after the Bellingham CBGT for about a week. Terry and Ann (Rock-C) mentioned earlier that they are also heading north as well, and we hope to get together. Anyone else heading to the Gulf islands after Bellingham? If so, it might be nice to have a mini get together during the week. We plan on hitting Victoria, Naniamo, Vancouver and maybe Montague, Pirates Cove, Tumbo, Saturna (winery). As usual, a lot depends on the weather, but with Barry's attendance it should not be a problem :)

Darn it, there's always a good reason why we can't seem to make this gathering anymore.

My family is coming up from California to celebrate my sister's 50th birthday on the weekend the gathering occurs. Can't very well miss that. :cry
We're really looking forward to it since the whole family doesn't get up here that often all at once.

I hope all of you have a great time. Ruth and Joe really know how to throw a party!
