07/15 - 07/17 Blakely Island

Byrdman,
Rest assured you will have lots of Boats to step on out here at the Blakely Gig.. Heck you might even get to witness some C-Dory Church Services(aka: Christenings). It will be great to see you and all the others coming from far and wide! And as an aside ,wait til you see the Knot Yacht. What a great piece of wood working that boat is. I know I want to look it over again.

Well, we called and made reservations today. we will be sharin with someone in A-13
Looks like this is gonna be a big gathering.

Less than a month away.... getting more excited each day. Looking forward to seeing some of yall again and others for the 1st time. Sent Jeff and email for an update on the readiness or lack there of on the TC255 and is is out of the office for a while. I truly appreciate the ride offers and look forward to some NW style fishing and shrimping...and eating...and enjoying beverages together... Ya gotta love America... See yall soon! Posted some new pics on FreeByrd photo albumn of some of my latest upgrades... That AC is not finished...but she sure does cool great and take the humidity out of the air on our 85 degree nights with 85-95% humidity... What a sleeper now....and there is a reason to take a shower prior to turning in... and it beats the world out of blowing the fan over a 60 quart cooler of ice... Found another use for the ice.... 8)

While I haven't called Norma, nor can I confirm I'll be there... If at all possible I will try to get there. My guess is though that the boat won't be ready to do that as I will only have had it a few days by that time. :crook

OK, per usual, the Beer Guys (or I guess Guy in this case) will have a keg for Saturday night. And Patrick Byrd will have a cooler full of BBQ packed in dry ice...so he is looking for grills, utensils, foil, etc., which I am confident will be found aplenty. I don't remember exactly what facilities are in the picnic shelter - seems to me there are concrete fire pits with grills, correct? Anyway, sounds like slaw and beans would be a good things for others to bring...I know we never have a shortage of course!

Hi Pat,
Yes there are grills on the BBQ's. If I remember correctly the BBQ's are pretty good size and have heavy duty grates. I have been going up there the last 6 years for the Blakely Island Fishing Derby the end of March. The derby has a large potluck on Sunday after the weigh-in and they BBQ the top 5 to 6 fish which they are cooked on foil. I did not notice if they used wood or charcoal for cooking.

Pat as always thanks for the brew. The cabana at Blakely has both a fire pit with a grill and a couple Weber charcoal grills. I know they have plenty of wood for the fire pit but not the charcoal for the grills.
Crab season will be open in the area so hopefully we will have plenty of crab.

Sounding like a great trip building. Good to go on the grills and pits. I'll arrive at the docks (address please so I can get there from SEATAC) on Friday sometime and RECON the area. All BBQ is very slow cooked in Hickory smoke pits, then sealed in vac-bags... and all we need to do is get it warmed back up to feeding temperature which is way easy on grills, ovens, pits, stoves,... manifolds of trucks... I know I am not the only one here who has heated up the old C-Rations under the hood??? You know, I bet there is a space between the engine block on these outboards big enough to heat up a pound bag...or a 1/2 rack of ribs... I hear the wheels turning out there now.

Variety and taste??? Can bring a mix of ribs, pulled pork (both plan and some like the vinegar base), beef brisket, pulled turkey, and some 1st joint drummettes (chicken wings).... Yall let me know your likens...and I'll get the plant to fix us up a variety pack that matches... and bring a couple for "6-pack" party packs for door prizes too... if yall do that at this gathering.

If Byrdmans coming and bringing ribs - we cancelled everything and sign-ed up. We will be in C-7. Looking forward to seeing you all.

DON, DEB AND HAILEIGH :smiled

Byrdman,
Sure hope you know your going to Blakely Island which except for the marina is all private property. Access to this place is very limited and if you don't own a house there you can't even get off the marina's grounds. Accommodations are limited to your boat at the marina unless you happen to be one of those folks that do own a home on the island. Hate to see you sitting at SeaTac with a batch of good grub and no way to get it where you're going.
All this food makes me hungry and I just finished lunch and so far can't make it to Blakely this year. More food talk and I may have to work on work.

Tim

Hi Don & Deb,
Sounds like it's going to be a little tight in C-7. That's the same slip that we got assigned. No matter where we end up, I'm looking forward to this one.

Plans changed, can't make Blake this year. Got a better offer. Yep, she's brunette, firm, frisky, fun, fresh and friendly.

Actually, Mark wouldn't like it if I called him any of those things. Well, maybe friendly. A pal since junior high, he's in town for a wedding that weekend and made vigorous appeals for a domesticated Cat. Dang! Why then? I called the bride, she hung up. Still, it's an opportunity for a buddy to see his son, save some non-disposable income, reconnect with his roots, see other friends, drain a few and barby-Q.

Slip A-8 is now taking reservations, and you'll be sharing same with a most delightful, gentle couple. Just save me some french fries, and have a fabulous time, everyone.

Tim/Lynn Marie: WOW... That sounds like some information I needed...
OK, need a little up there local help here gang... Who is the POC at the marina with all the slips? I need her/his number, and credentials of what ever type to get into their private little world. I will promise to be good, drop cash (as we all will be...), and be gone by Monday morning.

Any ideas?

Well, first off, you can't get there from here. You have to boat, fly, or swim to Blakely. Float planes look like fun, but I doubt you want to drop that much cash. Swimming is not advisable. And it would seem foolish to pay for a boat ride when there are so many boats headed there.

The crew of the TyBoo would be happy to provide a ride from the top of Whidbey Island, but we don't know when that might be. You see (and this will really please the folks who still consider me an outlaw), the time of our arrival will be determined by a judge's ruling in Clatsop County Circuit Court on July 12, or maybe July 13. We hope to get to Deception Pass on Thursday, and motor over to Blakely Friday morning.

If our schedule can meet yours, we would enjoy hauling your butt and your BBQ across Rosario. But I am betting that you will get several other offers with more definitive details before then.

TyBoo and Byrdman,

This sounds like more than just travel logistics to me. Not only do you have to get there but once there you need a place to stay. Not any rooms available as I recall so a spare bunk, or should I say berth, is also needed once one arrives on the island unless the party of the first part plans on leaving the island before the party of the last part gets under way. That is to say one will leave before one crashes for the night curled up at the end of a dock hidden below a stack of life jackets.

This sounds like the voice of doom and gloom but Byrdman ya need to know All the facts about this place.

That does sound a little tight. With motors and all we are probably around 30 feet. Do you know how big the slip is? But as long as we can both get in there it will be alright. We don't snore and don't fight too much. Look forward to seeing you there. Deb.

I just checked the website and it is only a 32 foot slip. I must have misunderstood. I will call back tommorrow and check on our slip assignment. :embarrased
