07/07 - 07/08 - PWS Round 3 - Billy's Hole, AK

Mark,

Back to Tyboo's original question. When? July 4 is on Wednesday. I would say either June 30 or July 7 to keep it on a Saturday.

Comments anyone?

Tom

Tom,

Right on! Since the 4th is on a Wednesday, either 6/30 or 7/7 would be the choice. I personally have no preference.

Can't consult "Vacation Dan", as he decided to take a break in the Islands, the
Aloha variety. They've been working him so hard that sanity dictated a release. We could just arbitrarily pick the 30th or 7th but it would be nice to
know that the Commodore could make it. Dan is due back this coming
Sunday so it would be cool to check with him and pin it down then. Also, might be nice to have some other foks that want to make it, chime in and say if they have a preference. Dan could probably go either way.

Tyboo, being the affable, accommodating, young guy that he is, will probably
be amenable to a slight delay in finalization of the datum.

Mark,

Sounds like a plan. If it's on June 30, my plan is to continue on Sunday toward Cordova (and take Boris up on docking in Sheep Bay). If it on the the 7th, I will hit the gathering on the return trip. Interested in continuing or meeting on the way to Cordova during that time frame?

Tom

Tom,

Sounds interesting, let me kick that around a little bit and it may depend
on the date for the gig as well. It would be nice to check Boris's digs out,
although he may pull back the welcome mat once he see's what he's dealing
with.

It would be nice to do the opposite weekend with the lease amount of impact. Last year was a nightmare launching and retrieving at the docks. Assuming the majority will be taking the later date. Any thoughts?

Is this a two day event like last year?

Hey guys count Beth and I in. As far as the date goes, as long as it's after June 8th (our last day as productive members of society) any day will work! That's assuming we have our new boat by then. Looking forward to it.

Hey Ted,

I'll plan on getting an early start, so I can appreciate the "blur" and your wake as you go flying by us.

Should be fun....................Looking forward to it!

After extensive consultations with the Fairbanks contingent and a very difficult and drawn out negotiation, we have come up with a tentative proposal. The meeting day will be July 7, the location will be Billy's Hole in Long Bay, 60.967N 147.287W. It's about 50 miles from Whittier and 40 from Valdez depending on the route you take.

Let me know your thoughts, suggestions or complaints.

Tom

I've had my 22 Cruiser since 93 and have boated all over SCentral AK including Seward to Wittier and back a number of times and didn't know about this gathering. Looks like I missed out now that I am buying a new boat and selling my C-Dory. All this may not happen before the gathering and will make every attempt to attend where ever it is.

Denny

Denny,

I believe this is going to be mixed affair since I understand there will be a SeaSport around. Be sure to pass on the info to the new owner, he or she or they will obviously be welcome.

I did the Whittier Seward trip last August and came to the conclusion, the next time I go that way, I will loop around to the east and come back north to Whittier. There wasn't much to look at on the crossing over the Seward. The fishing was pretty good, but then that time of year it is good in a lot of places.

Tom

Will Do Tom.

I want to spend some time in the Cordova Area as well. I think you could dock up for a couple of days, rent a car and do some exploring.

Your right about the stretch between Bainbridge and Cape Resurrection. Unless your fishing, its just a stretch to get accross.

OK, I'm planning on attending regardless. I should be grandfathered in.

Denny.

You guys make me home-sick every spring!

Les should have my new 22 ready for delivery the first of May :D , so after I get a season's familiarization, I'll head north.

I hope to drag the boat to Hope : :) next year so I can join in the festivities. We are coming up late this summer to do some manual labor on the cabin (with no boat :( ) and return with the changing of the leaves.

My best wishes to ya for a good time and may the PWS "Weather God" ensure all of the pictures you take turnout like those Dan has posted of Billy's Hole!

Enjoy! Doug DeVore

You could check on car rental. One thing for sure it is a great place to spend a few days. The 50 mile drive up to the so called million dollar bridge over the Copper River would be worth the rental and time spent. We sure enjoyed our time spent in the Cordova Area.

Cordova is a fun place, I've been there a couple of times for work and had a chance to explore. Childs Glacier, and the silvers are great later in the season, in the harbor and on the Martin. Shot a moose up against the Bering Glacier a bunch of years back, a fly-in.

Also want to explore to the west of Cape Aialik (sp), especially now that shrimping is open out there. Seward to Homer, Anchorage to Seward, or even Anchorage to Whittier. Need a shallow chicken hole out there. Just think about an over nighter or two nights with silvers, halibut, and shrimp.

Looks like this ought to be on another thread.

I'm going to be in Alaska from June 24th through July 23. I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to, but I'm going to try to make it to the gathering.
