07/07 - 07/08 - PWS Round 3 - Billy's Hole, AK

Dan,

Mark and I discussed it at Seattle, Fairbanks gets to pick the location and the Commodore will emerge. The only rules are make it within 50 miles of Whittier. In 08, the southern contingent gets to pick a spot within 50 miles of Valdez. That puts it within the 1/3, 1/3, and 1/3 (not counting the extra 15 most of us carry) rule. That opens up the possibilities.

Since the 4th is on a Wednesday, I suggest the weekend before or after. Those who want a long vacation can start or end on the 4th.

Dan,

I liked Schoppe also and plan to go back again in May. Just around the point in Olsen Cove was nice with some good garvel beaches. I even think the north end of Knight Island is within 50 miles. Like you said it opens up a lot of possibilities. You all decide.

Hi AK Brats. Any of you intending to participate in the 07 PWS gathering are again invited to stop by our island lodge in Sheep Bay ( 22 miles NW of Cordova). We have a quiet protected dock and anchorage, and when the generator is running, cold beers and hot showers. Would love to share experiences in cruising these wonderful waters...many say we have the most spectacular vistas in all PWS.

Warm Regards from frigid Minnesota...

Dan

Thanks for getting the 2007 event going! I'm assuming that we can call you
"Commodore" for this one. Probably the same time frame as last year?

We intend to make it this year, all systems willing.

Tom is pumped and ready as usual. Intrepid adventurer that he is.

Boris

Thanks for the heads up and invite. I suppose it will depend somewhat on
where our fearless engineer's dart lands as a destination.

Boris,

I plan to make Cordova either before or after the gathering this year. We made the run to Valdez last year and decided after Dogon Dory's description of his trip, we needed to go on to Cordova since we'll probably be halfway there already.

Dan and the other Far North Gathers

We can't make it this year. Have to put in for vacation in November for the following summer, so are committed to Southeast Alaska this year in June. We will do our best to make it in 08, out of Valdez if its planned for very early July. Really enjoyed photos ect of your previous gatherings. Was in Valdez and Cordova in 2000 in a Van. Fantastic area. Really looking forward to cruising the PWS and meeting the Far North Group.

Boris---If your still there and the invitation still open will plan on stopping by for a visit ect. in 08

Presenly we are well into our plans for this year, but still doesn't hurt to plan even further ahead and hope for the best.

Jay....................come on UP!

The PWS gig has historically been over the 4th of July weekend, so you would be pretty safe to figure on that time frame.

It would be nice to have some "Southern" C-Dory folks up here. Prince William Sound really is a beautiful place. Of course since you've been here before, you already have a feel for it.

Looking forward to getting together with you in "08!

Have a great year, and enjoy your Southeast AK trip. That will be cool! If you make it to Juneau you'll be in my old, real old, stompin' grounds!

We've had a temperature low of -30 to -43 degrees every day for the last two weeks in Fairbanks, but this should be the last cold spell of the winter. Time to start think seriously about getting the boat and gear ready to go.

Thanks for the 08 welcome mat.

If everything else falls into place the 4th July will work well for us.

Have been to Juneau several times. Plan on stopping at Auke Bay for at least a night this year. Really like that transient small boat harbor.

We were down to -22 a couple nights ago. After seeing your temps we don't have it so bad after all.

Looking forward to the future with optimism.

We will be there this year. Last year we left Whittier to go to the gathering, but had carbuerator problems out of the shoot. Had to stay in Suprise Cove instead. But this year, we are there.

One other thing, I frequently boat with my brother-in-law in his 22 foot Sea Sport and my other boating buddy Scott in his ahem.....24 foot Bayliner. Would they be welcome at the C-Dory gathering? Just wanted to feel it out, in case they were in the area. They are pretty good guys.

Thanks,

Ben

Ben,

It would be up to the Commodore, but I would say they would be welcome if they anchor at least 1/2 mile away so they don't appear to be associated. However, I would support waiving that requirement if they do some or all of the following:

a. Bring extra beer, wine, or other spirits.
b. Bring some extra good coffee that passes Dogon Dory's taste test.
c. Bring extra bait and secret fishing coordinates to share.
d. Bring dry fire wood.

Tom

Tom-

This was my brother-in-law Sam's Reply:

"I think far away is best. Remember when the Titanic sank and everyone was nervous about all the people climbing on the life boats and overloading them....Wouldn’t want a bunch of C-Dorkies clinging to my Sea Sport if they all sank at once."

I don't think I agree with him though!
