06/06 - 06/08 - Annual Chesapeake Bay Gathering

This is great news from Sail Annapolis. I had talked with John Middleton or one of his reps months ago, and they said they would "do their best' to get something over here...Since they are our local dealer now that Cutter is on to other things, it is good from their point of view and ours to have them here! Welcome!

I was on my way to a purchase from Sail Annapolis..a C Dory 16 and ended up buying a Ranger 25 from Gratitude Yachts here in Annapolis. But they were very good about price, and all the things you want from a dealer, and I'm sure i would have enjoyed the 16 almost as much as the Ranger.

Re: Chesapeake Bay Marching and Concert Kazoo Band (CBMCKB)

Please begin to hum (practice) the following tunes for our gala presentation.

Key: optional...cacaphony is wonderful
Song Titles: 'Comin Around The Mountain
The Old Grey Mare She Ain't What She Usta Be
Old Susannah

All tunes in unison unless we have trained kazooists...then harmony is welcome.
I picture a rehearsal in the gazebo and then a marching turn around the parking lot.

Lankford Bay Marina will never be the same!!!!

Wow! A marching AND concert Kazoo band!!! Now there's something you don't get at the west coast gatherings! I hope you will post some pictures..with sound. Have a great time!

capt. tom, band director,
tom, you may not know this, but while in the service, for a two year period i was a dormitory supervisor at the norfolk va. naval base brig. one of the many jobs held me responsible for drilling (marching) the inmates. i could drive (march) them anywhere and in any formation. of course, if they screwed up, i'd have them on their knuckles for pushups. so, sir, with that in mind, should you need my help, for example the kazoo marching band became unruly, intoxicated, belligerent, or in some way disrespectful to your position, just call on me and i'll have those little buggers down in the prone position screaming, "yes sir", in no time at all.
if there became a need for backup, then i would suggest calling in "byrdman" he and i could tagteam them into submission.
i remain, your most humble servant.

Tom- In boot camp I played in the band. It got us out of a lot of useful stuff, like learning to spell "US Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Maryland" in semiphore. To this day Anchors Aweigh and the Stars Spangled Banner are the only pieces I can play without music. I remember the tough old Boatswains mate who directed the band. His instruction was "just play loud and march like a g-d- Marine!"

If the kazoo band takes hold, we might be available for Left Coast gatherings...of course, we would want significant amounts of the "other" crab as payment.

We'll take pictures, promise.

We only have about three weeks to go!...................................
We have a short "Poker Run (more like cruise)" planned for Saturday morning for those who want to play. We will discuss Friday night .............................

Anne, look forward to seeing you and everyone else.... put us down for both the Saturday and Sunday cruises. :smiled

Just off from Lankford Bay Marina there is a wide space in the river....A friend of mine, a photographer, suggested a great idea...If we end up with, say ,30 boats...might we all rendezvous, rafted up side to side, in that wide spot ( if it is calm of course) and he could take a picture from the bluff just above Lankford. What a great idea of a keepsake!

Well...not being musically inclined....and wanting to hone up a bit on my musical instrument of choice.... the Juke Box... and wow...what a change. I was "forced" to go into one of our local red-neck biker bars and play a few tunes to be ready for the Gathering.

Of course...Foreigner's "Juke Box Hero" had to be played... Freebird, some of the Charlie Daniels Band, ... a bit of Bob Segar, ... not Southern Rock without a bit of Marshal Tucker.... can't be from the South and not play a bit of Johnny Cash (it just aint right)... and wow... the change in the Juke Box industry itself is wild.

OK...to be diverse... I tried a couple of places... being forced by the need to be up to speed for the gathering...of course.... and one had CDs not LPs....and the other was some type of sat rig...and "beamed" the songs down .... Cool.

Looking forward to seeing yall soon. Driving up from the Nashville area departing around the 3rd or 4th....heading back to TN around the 12th.
Will attempt to bring some BBQ for Friday nights cover dish.

Today was crab ball day. I bought the stuff this morning, fresh from our local seafood store and spent about four hours workin' the magic.

Recipe: couple pounds of crabmeat..i use claw and backfin...mix in some bread crumbs,(not a lot), couple of raw eggs, Old Bay seasoning, and some sour cream...mix well but don't overmix and make a paste out of it.
Fry in fresh oil until brown. You can freeze them, then thaw and re heat.

Of course, I sampled along the way.

today i called lankford bay marina (410-778-1414) to confirm my reservations. we are set to arrive on june 3. i asked if they had a ramp to launch our boat and they told me actually we would have to launch at a neighboring marina. no problem there. they also mentioned to check in with them first and they would provide a pass for the launching.
linda and i will be available to help any boater needing assistance for launching, backing the tow vehicle/trailer or returning your vehicle back to langford. my firstmate is a seasoned boater, however, driving a one ton vehicle with trailer is not exactly her forte and i would imagine she is not alone in that regard. my cell phone is 513-646-8153.
we are looking forward to visiting with our c-dory brothers, and sisters.
best regards
pat and linda

Pat and Linda,

The launch site is a public landing, and Lankford can give you a pass for use...it is a very good launch ....well maintained, and C Dory's have been pleased with it...it is about a mile and a quarter from our marina, Lankford Bay, you could almost walk it. I will be "on duty" from late Wednesday on...except i have a concert on thursday night, at our local place...absolutely world class jazz...honest...and any in town are welcome as my guests...the hall is in Rock Hall, just a few miles from Lankford.

Looking forward to the event...looks like a sure winner.

Pat and Linda,

I will be out on the Bay with my 16 year old daughter and two of her friends on Jjune 3 and 4, returning late on June 4....call me on 443 480 6056 and i will come down to Lankford to visit late on Wednesday...
Look forward to seeing you.

I should tell any who are going to be here by June 5 that there is a great concert at my venue, The Mainstay, in Rock Hall...the concert begins at 7:30....the featured soloist has played for years with Vince Giordano's Nighthawks, and the seven piece band is made up of world class jazz allstars, (honest, it is a remarkable venue and band)...and if you are here, come as my guest.
