06/06 - 06/08 - Annual Chesapeake Bay Gathering

This year the music will be just The Banjo Man...and if there are any musicians out there, bring along whatever you play...a tuba would be great.

As Charlie says, lots of diversity in region and type of boat this year...
"Boat tours" will , no doubt , be a feature.

Don't forget: potluck on Friday..bring something to feed a few people..Saturday night we take care of things.

We will have people around on Friday all day to answer questions and help you if the need arises.

Terraplane is still boatless, but that can still change by June 6.

The deal is closed and I will have a Ranger 25 at the Chesapeake gathering. See the posting titled "New Ranger 25 in the slip" for details.

'Seemed like the right thing to do...so i did it.

Tom...Congrats on your new boat! I look forward to seeing it and you...but maybe not in that order.

Travel plans staring to fall into place...and it looks as if I should get in the area around 5th, and will stay up there till around the 12th.

Look forward to seeing and meeting many of you..and the follow on cruise too. A nice longer slow cruise is fine with me... I just want to be able to do some boating, and often at gatherings....we get there, tie up, un-tie....and depart. That is all good due to the fun and the boat hopping going on...but hey...with a tow that far...I do want to see some water too!

Thanks to each and every one of you helping put this together. It is sort of like hearding cats....good luck and thanks!

Have any cruising plans been made for after the gathering, or our we just going to wing it, we are interested in four or five days ending back at Lankford Bay, any advice will be appreciated. By the way we like to enjoy the scenery at 7 or 8 knts. Larry

Weather permitting...i am planning to join any who wish to take a cruise. I must be back at Lankford by Wednesday evening..there is a concert on Thursday to prepare for at The Mainstay. I would be happy to comp any C Dory/Ranger people at the concert..great jazz, really.

Since i have now moved to a Ranger 25, 7 to 8 kts. sounds just fine to me.

We can wing it, since i live here...and i can suggest about 100 possible itineraries...at least.

Hi all Tracy here, Tom I was wondering if you can tell me about any historial sites that we can see from the water ? Lighthouses and the like ? We both enjoyed seeing the old forts down in Florida. So if you can point me in the right direction..? That would be great. :D I am really looking forward to seeing more of Maryland this year ! Thanks, Tracy 8)

Tom ,
Yes we are bring the boat with us. What fun would we have without that ?! lol I was just wondering if there was any places on the water that we could see. I heard from Larry( I have been slack about being online ) that you got a new boat ?! What's her name ? Can't wait to see it. Talk to you soon ! Tracy :D :D

Geeze thanks Marvin ! Sadly your correct, that everytime we put our boat into the water..it rains. Not just rain DOWN POURS ! 8) We were just telling a friend of ours the same thing yesterday. I guess you'll have to wait till after the Bay gathering Marvin. LOL 8) Email if you still need us to come ..

Tracy,

If you are planning to hang around for a while, i thought some of us might travel around a bit...Maybe on Sunday afternoon to St. Michaels..great lighthouse..and you can tour it...

There is a lot to see from the water...both rural and urban. We can make a plan. Be glad to see you.

tom

New boat is Ranger 25...new name is BANJO

Sorry Tom were you asking if we were hauling the boat ? Or coming by water..? We are hauling it up with the truck. I have already put our kazoo's on the boat for our march..lol.Take care, Tracy

Well, pretty soon i'll start watching the long range forcast.

Sometime on Saturday..maybe over coffee...those who might want to travel a bit after the gathering...leaving in late morning on Sunday perhaps...and going in a leisurely fashion out for anywhere from three to five days...should meet and talk. Sunday we could meander to St. Michael's...a short trip....and there is so much to consider..

How many are even considering a cruise of some kind?

tom (terraplane)

Tom... Put me down for some cruise time. I am fine at displacement speeds too. I need to pull out of the water late Wednesday...or early Thursday...and be ready to hit the roads south on Friday. The Jazz gig sounds fun....but if the road weather home looks ruff...I may need to deart on Wednesday..

Looking forward to it...and

IF one of the XXL shirts is not mine Charlie...put me one down....with sleeves. Pocket maters not...but you really do not want me sleevless.

Byrdman

We would be interested on a couple of days cruising on Sunday, Monday & maybe on Tuesday.
Once we get there it don't cost much more to stay a few more days.
Byrdman you got the right idea a few more days on the water.

Jim :

Heading back on Wednesday would work for me. Hauling out would also be easier if a few of us headed back at the same time.

I could handle displacement speeds, as well.

Charlie,

Can't remember if we ordered shirts or not. Would like one Large and a Medium sleeveless for me. Hope the girls get the message about the NEW Ladies shirt.
I don't have Excel on this computer and the one in work will not let me get into the C-Brat site. Would you bring some copies of the spreadsheet to the Gathering?

Did you hear from "Pennies from Heaven"? They e-mailed me and asked to be put on the events signup list. I said I couldn't add them but would let you know they are coming. Said they wanted to come. Three people. I will try to send you their e-mail. Guess they can't get into C-Brat site. I did e-mail them back but haven't heard anything.

Alma’s Only is “up” for a post-gathering trip to St. Michaels, or something in that direction. We’ll have to pull from the western shore sometime Monday, June 9, but heading to St. Michaels on Sunday afternoon would work fine.

We’ll do most of our leisurely cruising on the front end of the gathering this time, and to avoid the long drive loop around the Chester River, are planning on launching Monday afternoon, June 2, at Chesapeake Beach, on the western shore, about 20 miles south of Annapolis, as the crow flies. There’s a marina there (Rod & Reel, Marina West, 3840 Gordon Stinnette Ave., Chesapeake Beach MD 301/855-3572) that charges a $10 launch fee, and $5/day to park the tow rig. We’ll spend the first night on a mooring ball at Annapolis, where the water taxi takes you to the heart of the city, and a free hot shower! The next morning, we’ll begin a clockwise loop into the northern Chesapeake, arriving at the C-Brat gathering on Friday, where we’ll be ready for more showering. A post gathering trip to St. Michaels would allow us to spend more time with C-Brats, and return to Chesapeake Beach by a direct crossing of the Chesapeake, south of St. Michaels.

Books which we’ve found useful for this type of boating are: Cruising the Chesapeake – A Gunkholer’s Guide, William H. Shellenberger, McGraw-Hill, and A Cruising Guide To The Chesapeake, Stone and Blanchard, Dood Mead & Co. The second is relatively obscure, but the first is available at any West Marine, and well worth the price. It is easy to reference, identifies just about every “gunkhole”, and includes chart references, history, etc. Probably the nearest thing to a “bible” for the Chesapeake, and it’s tributary rivers.

Larry and Tracy on Dragonfly, we’re looking forward to seeing you both (and the rest of the NC delegation). If you’re going to drive up I-95, you might want to consider a launch at Chesapeake Beach, and if the drive will be up the DelMarVa, take a look at the Easton/St. Michaels area. I can give you routes and tracks to use in your chartplotter, and you’ll spend a lot more time boating, and less driving, either way. The route from Easton/St. Michaels to the gathering is very protected from weather, and it looks like the post-gathering activities are heading that direction anyway. Same offer for routes and tracks holds for anyone else interested in launching other than at the gathering. And, anyone interested in all or part of the clockwise tour of the northern Chesapeake is welcome to join us.

Looking forward to June 6th!
