06/05 - 06/07 - Chesapeake Bay Gathering

We are going to to our daughters ski cabin in Northern New York tomorrow... This will be 40% of the distance to Rock Hall... After touring the remodel and addition to her condo I am perfectly willing to just continue on and be a marina bum for another couple of weeks until the gathering... But the Admiral keeps bringing up nasty words like work and bills (sigh)...

I'll answer my own question! Heard back from Langford and, while you may not have access in your boat, if you bring a laptop into the store, they do have WiFi there with free access.

Charlie

We just returned from a week on the Bay, and while we have anchored on Langford Creek several times, we had never stayed at the Marina until this trip. For those unfamiliar with Lankford Bay Marina, we can say that we were very impressed with the facility and the staff. The facililities are excellent, the grounds are beautiful, and the marina itself is a delight. We saw no derelict boats. In fact, there is a wide variety of very well maintained boats, mostly sail. We have added Lankford to our short list of places to which we will return. We will not be at the June gathering, but wish all attendees great fun and great weather.

I still need info from the following Brats. I've gotta order shirts in the next couple of days and we need to plan food and I've gotta finish the name tags. Please respond by e-mail or PM if you're still planning on coming.

Thanks all, everyone accounted for now. I'll post the "final" attendance list and info in the documents section of the forum. Looks like about 50 people and about 25 Brats/Tuggers signed up. We'll have a good selection of boats for wannabes to look at, if you haven't signed up and just want to come, please let us know so we have enough food!

Hopefully we'll have good weather, hope it's not blowing like it is right now or us folks coming up the bay will have rough going.

Anyone need any more info about the weekend?

Charlie

Well, only a week from today!!!

I will have a full agenda to hand out as you check in at the marina but thought I would post an abbreviated one for the new folks.

Friday is the official arrival day at Lankford Bay Marina. Most boats arrive this day and there is always a need for help to get the boats into the water or tied up in their assigned slips. This is also a good time to meet new and old friends.

There will be a pot luck supper at the Pavillion at 6:00pm. Bring what you can (food and drink) to share. This could be cheese & crackers, pizza, cold cuts & rolls, dip & chips, fruit, dessert, etc. You get the idea! Paper plates, plastic silverware and cups will be provided. If you forget to bring the fixings from home, there is always someone to drive you into town. T-shirts will be given out tonight also. $15.00 each.

We will be arriving on Thursday. If you need anything, please let us know on this site by Wednesday night.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone and having a great weekend.

Doug & Anne

Thanks Anne. Thought I'd add a few things.

On Saturday, typically a few boats go up the river (Chester) for lunch at Chestertown or around to Rock Hall. Those needing to have a ride are sure welcome to join in. Being the only TC255 there, we'd be glad to take folks out for short jaunts...

On Saturday night, we have our big get together. Drinks, Fried Chicken, Red/White hots (hot dogs), and this year, Crabcakes. And of course the music from Tom. We also will have the Bay Ranger crew in attendance who have just completed a 2800 mile ICW cruise in their Ranger 25 Tug. Ed and Elaine have said that, although they don't have a prepared presentation, they would be glad to entertain a Q&A session for us all. Please go over to the Tug-Nuts site and read about their trip, chapter by chapter, I think they have about made it to Florida at this point in the story.

On Sunday morning, for breakfast, we will have omlettes to order and a breakfast courtesy of our committee and Paula and Bob of Hunk E Dory. Paula does this as a profession, and I'm looking forward to a good breakfast before we head back our 120 miles down the Bay on mid morning.

Don't have a clue about the weather yet, raining hard right now here on the Potomac at the Chesapeake but we need it. Been very hot there for a couple of CBGT's, only rained once and this year we're keeping our fingers crossed.

Anyone else is welcome to drop by, some are just coming for Sat night, we've got one TC255, some 25 Cruisers, a bunch of 22 Cruisers, some 16 Cruisers and 4 Ranger 25 Tugs for a total of 18 boats!

See you all in about a week!

Charlie

Charlie pretty much summed it all up. We are going to have a great time as usual. The committee has worked very hard to put it all together. Thanks to all.

This will be a great group again. Despite the number of boats, many are new to the C-Dory/C-Bay Gathering.

Hope everyone has a safe journey. If you have any questions, please e-mail us.

Pray for good weather but not HOT!

Anne

Not sure how this will work from a Blackberry, but here goes. . .Betsy and I will arrive Saturday around noon. Should we stop at the marina before trying to find the launch ramp? Since we're arriving a day late we'd like to stay until Monday. I made the slip reservations, but will this create a parking problem? Is the parking within walking distance of the ramp; should we plan to move the truck sometime Saturday? Thanks! We're looking forward to our maiden voyage - after all someone has to provide comic releif with complete ignorance!
Another dumb question: is it best to put some gas in both tanks if not topping off? I'm getting rid of 25 gallons of old gas at my Yamaha mechanics advice after new plugs and carb cleaning. It was about a month old, so.I'll only be filling the tanks with what I plan to use, treated with Blue Stabil (and Seafoam?) Sound OK?
Thanks again.
Chuck

Maybe you could stop in at Gratitude Yachts in Rock Hall and take an R 25 or R 29 Tug for an extended test drive and save trailering.

Chuck, I'd fill both tanks at a convenient, inexpensive gas station and treat it. If you see a sign saying "no ethanol", jump on it. Come to the marina first, you can pick up the launch permit and someone will help you launch and then we'll get your rig situated in Tom's field. Nothing is in walking distance but there will be plenty of folks with cars to ferry you/rig/etc around. No problem staying until Monday, several folks are and Tom, who is hosting us, keeps his boat at Langford and you'll be parking in his field.

We have a rare gas station in Reedville, about 15 miles from here that is "no ethanol" andvery proud of it. Not on your route though and not worth the trip. I fill 5 gallon tanks there and keep the Cat topped up with the good stuff.

Look forward to meeting you and Betsy, drive safely. What route are you taking?

Charlie

So I am a wannabe c-brats. I am looking forward to seeing all the C-Dory in person. My wife is expecting so I can only come up for the day, Friday. I was wandering what time everyone will be showing up.
By the way I'll be in a Sea Ray.

There will be someone there all day on Friday. As I told you in a PM, we'll be getting there mid day, after having spent the night on the hook somewhere halfway up on the Eastern Shore. If you can stay for dinner, it's a potluck on Friday night, read a few posts back. Most folks are coming on Friday, not sure of exactly when, depends on where they're coming from and whether they're coming by boat or car/trailer.

We'll overlook the SeaRay this time

Give me a first name (or two) and we'll have a nametag for you.

Charlie

Hi All - sorry I'm not a frequent poster, so I just found all this interesting stuff after Charlie told me where to go (so to speak!). Surprise and I will be motoring down from Dundee Creek on Friday morning - looking forward to slipping across the shoals and bars that others have to go around . . . . . looking forward to meeting everyone - fingers crossed, as the weather outlook is evolving in positive directions!

We will be trailering down on Thursday morning and launching the boat with some friends. There will be several people there by Friday to help you tie up. Be looking for you.

Glad Charlie gave you the info. Check out the thread and read up on the activities planned.

Have a safe trip.

Doug & Anne

Will be traversing the Bay from Annapolis on Friday.
Have printed chart books of the area and maps from the Rock Hall web site of town.
Have 20 of each for whomever may need them.
Will print tickets for raffle before we leave.
Thanks and looking forward to meeting everyone,
Bill and Kathy

Have a good trip Bill. Looks like it's gonna be a little rough out there, we'll be leaving on Thursday from the mouth of the Potomac heading up, overnight somewhere partway up on the Eastern Shore and then the rest of the way up on Friday morning. We had one heck of a thunderstorm here last night, lots of rain and lightning for about 2 hours. They don't usually last that long.
