Hey Brats,

Marcia and I are working on our calendar for this year and it occurred to us that we hadn't seen anything on a CBGT this year for the Chesapeake. Are there any plans for number six this year? Hope so.

Hey Nick,

A C-Dory gathering on the Chesapeake Bay seems like a natural. One of the best cruising bodies of water around. It really surprises me that there is not a C-Dory dealer on the Bay, not even in Annapolis. On the other hand I just saw your boat, Valkyrie, down at Mobile East Marine. It was a long drive for me but Gene and Carrie really made it worth the trip. They are great. I'm shopping for a 25 Cruiser which I plan to spend a lot of time in exploring the Chesapeake. If and when there is a C-Dory gathering I hope to be a part of it.

Joe

Hi Joe,

Welcome aboard!

There has been a yearly CBGT in Rock Hall since 2005. I started this thread because I haven't heard of one for this year and typically one is scheduled by now and in the planning stages. Marcia and I are keeping our fingers crossed.

You might have had long drive to Mobile East, but you won't find better or more honest people than Gene and Carrie. If they had been dealers when we shopping for a CD 22, I would happily have driven the 700+ miles to buy from them. Gene is making some upgrades and troubleshooting an electrical problem for me. I also wanted to add some gear, but Gene talked me out of it, pointing out potential and costly problems, thus saving me some money -- at his expense. He's a good man and C-Dory is lucky to have him as a dealer.

Just how dirty was Valkyrie after sitting in the yard since mid-September? I'll be picking her up in late Feb and heading south for month or so in the Keys. Good luck in your search for a 25!

Regards,

Nick

Nick, unfortunately, I don't think there'll be one this year, at least not organized by the same folks. Tom (Terraplane) has his Ranger Tug up for sale at Gratitude and is moving away from boating for awhile. Doug had some medical problems in the fall, have not heard from him and Anne (ANNE B) for awhile, hope they're both OK. They spent about a week exploring the Potomac from my pier last summer.

The only thing I did was make nametags, have not been to the GT since 2008.

I'm sure there could be one but someone will have to do the on-site legwork. Maybe someone here will chime in. I'm too far away, as you are.

Charlie

Charlie,

Thanks for the update and I, too, hope that our fellow C-Brats are doing okay. Our thoughts and best wishes are with them.

Tom and all, glad you had a good time! We sure missed being there.

Charlie,
From the above post it looks like you didn't make 2008 either.

Joe,
I doubt if we will be able to make the 200 NM run to the Rock Hall area any time soon; but, I would love to extend an invitation to you to run around the Tidewater ( Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Hampton) area on our CD25, Sea Angel.

I'm retired and most times I'm available for some PR expressions.

If memory serves me right you should be abt 3 hrs from the 'Beach if you don't hit the tourist drive group thru the tunnels, etc.. You can PM me for further arrangements, if you desire.

We have descovered a favorite spot at the Smithfield Station Marina. It allows a wonderful walking area thru an old historic town and the marina, though not inexpensive, is extremely well kept. It is great for an overniter. There is also downtown Norfolk, Portsmouth, Yorktown and Hampton available.

Hampton Roads is a great idea as it is central and could draw some folks from NC too. Cape Charles is another possibility, Bay Creek Marina has nice shopping, dining, beaching, and is protected and has good walking too. Lots of local (2 hour or less) protected cruises with lots of wildlife or a cruise across the bay's mouth to Norfolk/VA Beach if the weather is nice. I'll go out on a limb and say, if there is anybody else interested, I would be willing to work to make it happen with some help.

I do hope Anne and Doug are OK, I have never felt more welcomed as a new owner as I did by them at Rock Hall last year.

Hi,
We would like to come up to the the Bay for another C-Dory
cruise. We have had a great time with the folks from MD & Va. on the former get to geathers.
Doug & Anna give me a PM some time

Mike and I would love to go to another CB gathering - our last was by foot. :) We can make it to the upper bay or lower bay. Or both. We just love being on the boat so any excuse will do...

Tivo,
This looks like a fine place for a 2-day gathering. What is the transient capacity and is there city water available at the docks?

I looked at the web site and the rates seem to $2.00/ ft, plus $5/ 30A hookup. Shame, I don't remember if any picnic area was immediately available for a group.

How secure is the area and is there transportation needed or available to explore the town?

My wife and I we both enjoyed the CBGT at Oriental N.C. Just as a sujestion. We could have a CBGT at WaterSide. That is in Norfolk, right at mile marker 1 for the ICW. I will check for infomation about slip costs and about motel room rates. There is restraunts and shopping with in walking distance. Neal 8)

I emailed with Anne right before Thanksgiving. I thought Doug was doing really well. Haven't heard from her in a while..I'll email her and see what's up. Take care all.. Tracy :)

It will be a disappointment not to gather at Lankford Bay. It's been a great venue, especially for Maryland home-ported brats. And who's going to lead the kazoo band?!?

Sorry we're not able to take charge of arrangements, but we are eager to participate wherever it is this year.

Sorry, didn't post in a while. We were having computer problems and guess a virus got hold of us. We had the thing cleaned out and then had to get new access to C-Brats.
Finally after what seems like a long time, we are back into the C-Brats threads and see the interest in a 6th Gathering at Lankford Bay Marina in Rock Hall.
Tom will not be leading us this year. We thank him for the last 5 years of wonderful times with fellow C-Dory owners.
Can we hear from people as to whether you want another Gathering here in Rock Hall? We would need help.
We have had 5 years of more than 20 boats each year and that requires a lot of planning ahead.
The marina has not been contacted yet.
Please let us know what you think.

Doug & Anne

Hi gang.
Tom The Banjo Man or Terraplane chiming in.

Just to bring folks up to date. Doug was doing just fine and I assume he still is. I have written to Anne and have not heard back in a while.

I am stepping back for now from boating. Some of it health related, nothing greatly serious, and some is that i want to devote time to other things. I bought my Ranger 25, BANJO, just about a month before the great financial crash...My retirement portfolia was decimated and being the conservative money guy I am, i put the Ranger up for sale. It is on the TugNuts site with all the details. It is marketed by Gratitude Yachts, here in Rock Hall. Lots of lookers and I think it will likely sell in the spring. It is a great boat and in great condition.

Now , I wrote Anne and Doug and Chalie some time back that I would not be available to work on the gathering at Lankford this year. I do not know if they are interested in putting the event together. It should continue, even if in another place.

There has been some interest by a new Ranger Tug dealer in
Annapolis, to hold a combined Ranger/C Dory gathering there. Annapolis is a great place with tons of activity. If anyone is interested i'd be happy to forward his contact info.

Will I go back to boating? Well, the Ranger ws my eighth boat. My neighbor has plans for a Redwing 18...google it.... be pretty nice on my river...and he is a great boat builder. The temptations never die do they?

Icheck the C Brats site all the time...for news and old friends.

Tom (terraplane)

Tom -
Sorry to hear that you are moving away from boating for awhile - we have such fine memories of times shared with you -'cruisin' the Chester River' - afloat or ashore. We'll surely be in touch if and when we're back your way and glad to hear that you'll still be linked to the Brats some of the time. Our best wishes to you and many thanks for all the shared good times.

Tom, Another great day in America seeing from you again. I am sorry your health issue of any matter. For sure it is something that I have been guilty of just thinking it was all going to be the same the next day too.... So, I attempt to make a few changes, and attempt a better healthier life...but, for damn sure I do not want to live so long I die of nothing. But then, that attitude may change in time too...or not. Kinda think for myself the same dude that provides us all those wonderful sun rises, sun sets, mountain views, beautiful valleys, some of that damn pretty for about 2 days of snow, the wide open empty looking prairie lands, the deserts....and Oh my...can we not forget the wonder and different water lands and types we enjoy.... Well,..kinda got lost in some of the simple things in life I attempt to enjoy each day there.. But... I think he may just have something better on the other side... and Man I can not wait for that boat ride!!!

Tom, I hope some of the other things you have shifted your time and focus on was that 2nd CD. I still owe LAST DANCE the original back, and, want to gift myself and a few others the 2nd CD.... what great water stories...and some great stories of living a simple life and working hard too. But, ya gotta watch eating 4 days in a row wonderful gravy over the sausage biscuits and 4 eggs with bacon on the side meals in that wonderful waterman's cafe there in Rock Hall.

Yep, I'd love to go back up there and gather around and do the Brat-Chat...and, if it is too much work for anyone to put on...well... then we each are just not doing enough for ourselves. ... maybe.

Somebody toss up some dates and a place...we all make our own reservations, get under that pavilian... and then come up with a plan. Worst, is we shuttle everyone to town, enjoy different meals, drift back to the pavillion, and just gather and brat-chat some more... and bring what it takes for you to survive for how ever long you plan to stay at the pavilion,....or, keep you resupplies close at hand.

But, folks just taking care of themselves these days simply seems to have drifted away.... like the sun on the bay at the end of the day. So, somebody toss some dates on a wall, please remind me what dock that was we stayed at about 2 years ago....there in Rock Hall.... and, those that can fend for ourselves and not make some others work their butts off can show up and ...well...Brat-chat...

Tom...see what you caused by showing up again??? Looking forward to more well...from the CD...the song just after Crab Talk... Radio Talk... I look forward to a "just a pretty time" day in Rock Hall.
