06/03 - 06/05 Eastern Shore, Maryland gathering

Patty here. Time to start packing. What's the weather likely to be? Temperatures? Raingear advised? If we cover all possibilities we'll need a steamer trunk. Help?

Patty/Pat and everyone else. If I could tell you what the weather was going to be in 4 days, I'd be in a different line of business. I will share what yahoo wx says though, and you can get the extended forecast by clicking on that button on the page. . "Showers" doesn't mean "Rain". If they mean Rain, they say it!! It gets updated frequently

This is for the zip code of Rock Hall MD. I can tell you that the wx this weekend was supurb, We were down at the Potomac and it was in the 70s with nice breezes. Had a little thunder bumper in the middle of the night but now we're back in Stafford VA and it's about 80 and sunny.

Do a sun dance for this next weekend. See you soon!

I made it to Baltimore today!!!!! It is sunny and warm, not hot, warm. :D It sure beats Seattle on Friday. 90+! Looking forward to the gathering this weekend. We will drive out Thurs PM, and if it is not "raining", we will set up the tent. Thanks for the map, it is excellent. Robbi

Roberta, if you're hanging out in Baltimore on Wednesday, come on down to Pier V (Five) of the Inner Harbor, just downstream of the Aquarium, around 3 pm and look for the skipjack "Sigsbee". Would be glad to say hi and show you around the boats. Bruce Holly.

We are tied off in Lankford Bay Marina tonight -- great place. Easier to find on the water than from land. Temperatures -- perfect. Sky clear and full of stars tonight. Pat and Patty -- we've got extra raingear, warmies, etc. in the camper.
Be off exploring around tomorrow, but should be in be Thursday pm. This is some fine water to cruise. Might want to MapQuest the route to the marina as well. 23002 McKinleyville Rd. Rock Hall, MD 21661 www.chesapeake-bay.com/lankfordbay 39 07.145 76 10.544 See you soon.

I just tucked two quarts of "extra anejo" Dominican rum into Sioux's roll-on. Will there be a happy hour for the Friday night potluck? I'll be happy to pour "Samana Surprises" for anyone who wishes to sample. (Involves 7-UP, fresh limes and good OLD Dominican rum.)

Looking forward to getting to know both the boats and the people.

PS Special thanks to Bill and El for even putting the thought in my head of including this in our 30th anniversary trip. And to my wife for humoring me in my mid-life crisis.

While some of you folks were conversing about maps, I was posting some as well - a process that dragged on and on, due to some connection glitches. So, thought they may be redundant, there are some verbal directions and a couple of road maps at http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?p=21526#21526, under the documents section.

Weather was beautiful today, as was the water - met EL and Bill this weekend and had a delightful time chatting. Looking forwadr to this weekend!

Yesterday, Jen and I were energetically flagged down on Frog Mortar Creek (off of Middle River, MD) by a couple in a sleek, go-fast center console fishing machine. We either thought our roof was on fire, they needed a tow, or we going too slow... Turns out none of that was true, but their "other boat" is a green 2004 CD25 called Melsway. They just wanted to give us kudos on C's the Day, and asked if we heard about this gathering on the eastern shore this weekend. Well, we told them we had, and that we were going. They were very enthusiastic, and called Lankford Bay today, and somehow got a slip for Saturday. So, I don't know how to sign someone else up officially, so I'm doing that now.

Their names are Guy (M) and Mel (F), and the boat is Melsway, bought from Cutter. Gary and Ruthie know them well. They also asked to be put down for crabs (2). If any of the cadre need to contact them directly to confirm, their email address is melguy@comcast.net. Really neat folks who will be a great addition to the group. I'll see if I can get them on C-Brats too.

BTW, cruised over to Waterman's Crab House in Rock Hall this afternoon with my father for an early dinner. Crab cakes were awesome, and woulda had the crabs the right way ($16 all you can eat special today), except for I woulda needed too much beer, and someone had to drive the boat home. It was an unbelievably beautiful day as Bill and El reported earlier. The bay was like glass-- and we got a tour of Mel and Guy's great place on the water on the way home. There seems to be something about these C-Dory people, doesn't there...?

Cheers,

Bruce, Thanks for the offer. We would love to have a look at the Sigsbee. My sister Roz, has a good friend whose daughter is working on the Mildred Bell this summer, and her boy friend is working on one of the skipjacks. Not sure if it is the Sigsbee or the Minnie V. Looking forward to seeing you this afternoon. THANK YOU!!! Robbi

Tom, We may have a change in plans, and not arrive until Friday. Still up in the air. Seems a large tree has fallen in my sister's back yard and we need to go buy a chainsaw today and get it cleaned up. We will be upholding the long Krumm tradition of being fearless loggers.

We met with our ol' Maine coast cruising buddy, Fred, as pre-planned, down at the mouth of the Chester. Anchored off together in Davis Creek night before last -- one TomCat and one CD-22 (pretty sight together, in front of the reeds, fields, and barns -- even a Great Blue Heron had to stop and "gawk" at us. Yesterday, we rode with Fred on his TomCat over to the Wild Duck, for a little nip of crab for lunch. Great! Stopped by at Cutter to introduce Fred to Gary and John. They run a great operation there, and have the welcome mat out for anyone who wants to stop by after the Gathering. They will also be here for the festivities.
Last night, we were in Rock Hall (sorry to have missed you TJ) poking around town and El found another crab to nibble (a soft-shell, this time). Crab twice in one day -- she's in Heaven!
Folks here at Lankford are great and marina is a dandy. A little rain possible in the forecast for Thurs/Fri but the weekend looks like it is just what Tom has ordered -- great weather!
Been meeting some great CD owners in these parts -- Maryland hospitality is all it is cracked up to be. (Proud to say, my first four years in elementary school were here in MD). See you folks in just a few days.

Down to hours before we get on the big bird headed east from Seattle for the Eastern Shore! Have got a lot of catch up reading to do on the site this morning, went cruising in the new Daydream (no internet) Friday, returned Monday, and occupied all day yesterday. We will arrive on Saturday, having traveled pretty much all Friday night. Otter Tom, we are just overwhelmed by your generosity. Bill & El, we'd be in a pickle without your camper! We can't wait to meet all the rest of you, this is shaping up to be one of the best ever!

Those of us who will be with you in spirit have high expectations. At the very least, loads of photos, maybe one or two short .mov files, scans of the local papers and, with luck, maybe a URL to your local TV station for a video clip of their coverage.

We fondly remember a couple of those "all you can eat" crab fests with Maryland sweet corn on the side and plenty of beer to wash it all down. Yummers.

Don

Hey Don, if you leave now, you might make in time for dinner on Sat!!

We'll miss you left coasters but we've got a contingent representing all of you. There will be pictures aplenty!

Last post from Terraplane Tom.

Just returned from emergency (not medical) trip to Pittsburgh. Glad so many out there are helping out. This gathering should be a model for how to help out on one of these things.

We think we are all set here. All week i have been getting glimpses of C. dorys and tomcats on our river...some have arrived already.

Look like possibility of rain on Friday and showers in evening. We don't have a protected space with cover so bring rain gear! Happy hour and pot luck in the rain! Sounds like a Pacific North West gathering. Saturday looks fine.

I've been scouring for crabs. The cold weather has kept the Old Jimmies in the mud, but we are doing ok with the order...

Looking forward to seeing you all. Safe journey.

Terraplane Tom

My sister Roz and I will be arriving Friday around noon. If we do have NW weather, I will feel right at home! But, here's to :hot . Robbi and Roz

Hey, I'm out of here! Will jump in the car in a few mintues, spend the night in PA and hit the Eastern Shore gathering tomorrow AM!

Can't wait!
