06/03 - 06/05 Eastern Shore, Maryland gathering

Sioux and I would like to order one large and one medium shirt. After major planning we will be arriving at BWI on Friday night at 6:38 PM. (Trying to get in on Thursday.) Still open to suggestions on B & B's, etc near the gathering.

I am really excitied about seeing my first C-Dorys. Sioux is non-committal as she probably had a more romantic interlude in mind for our 30th anniversary! However, I am sure she will be won over. Anybody that rafted over 5,000 miles of whitewater with me at the oars for up to three weeks at a time certainly should love the amenities of a C-Dory.

I'm sorry that we are coming boatless (blame a post of Bill and El's for even putting the idea in my mind) but could I bring a few bottles of Dominican rum (world's finest) to the festivities as an ice-breaker instead? (I make a mean "Samana Special" which involves 7-UP, rum and fresh lime.)

Steve Toburen
Santiago, Dominican Republic

PS We may not be coming the furthest but will we be the only attendees from a foreign country? BTW, is there a thread where we formally sign up?

Come on over, C-Turtle - the more the merrier! Used to live in Severna Park myself and had a boat in Yantz Cove. The Severn is a beautiful river.

Had Lizzie Ann out of the water in February and March. I've been itching to get back on the water, but work has just been crazy for the past month. Had to work again Saturday, but finally got her cleaned up and ready over a long day on Sunday. Put in early Monday morning, so she's back in her slip and we're ready to go! The weather's been wonderful lately, hopefully a promise of things to come.

Tom - will have more details on docking in Chestertown shortly, but it looks like we'll be ok. Have a great trip!

Great to hear that you and Sioux are coming Steve - no boat or gifts necessary, but who'd turn down Dominican rum? Not me! A Samana special sounds good!

Any of the B&B's mentioned in previous posts are within about 15 minutes, 20 max, from the gathering spot, and all have pretty good reputations locally. I'd go with whichever looks best on line and seems to fit your needs.

If you want to sign up, just click on the "Event Signup" icon on the top of the page, then scroll to our event. But we'll have you down as expected, either way.

Looking forward to meeting all these interesting folks!

Nice to have you coming from so far away. Try to get in on Thursday. Fri night at the BAY BRIDGE is not an easy crossing in the summer. Usual backups are 5 to 10 miles.

Thanks for the inside info to everyone. Tom and all of you have been so very helpful. We have never been to the Chesapeake and are really looking forward to it. (Sioux is an enthusiastic birder.) We'll try to get in on Thursday. I'll call the travel agent tomorrow.

thanks again,
Steve

PS This early in summer should we be getting reservations right away for lodging?

A historic C.Dory gathering is on the horizon!

With "Wannabe" go international! I've had a call from Queen Mary 2 about depth of channel at Lankford Bay Marina...I told them to call John.

Last call for T's.

Good point noted earlier about any of you coming with trailers and planning on crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Friday. The backup starts as early at 11am...and it can easily be an hour or more wait after 1pm.

JohnS. Good news about docking. I think our little committee should meet after i return.

To all who are coming: we here on the 'Shore are having a great time putting this together. Can't wait to meet all of you. Start crossing fingers for great weather!

I'll be sipping a palinka at the tanya in Kiskunfelegyhaza, Hungary, on the 19th.. Jo'napot!

A Semana Special and (maybe?) a Palinka???? WOW!! Now those are sundowners to beat all sundowners! Yep, I'd get signed up ASOP for a B&B -- Have a great trip to Hungry, Tom

Thanks for the info on traffic about the back up on the bridge, I assume you're talking about the bridge route 50 goes over...... I just adjusted or GPS to take us over route 13, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel and come up the Eastern Shore.

Looking forward to the gathering.... Have just gotten the 20 hour service done and am all set. We've done both now, one nite on the water and one nite at Camp Walmart and all expectations have been more then met.

Looking forward to seeing everyone etc

I'm working on completing the spreadsheet for terraplane Tom for the gathering. I need some info from many of you to complete it. If you'd prefer not to have someting listed (the list isn't going anywhere though), just leave it blank or whatever.

We're trying to find out how many folks we're going to have so Tom can plan on food and drink, along with Tshirts, etc, etc. Probably more info than we need but I'm a compulsive gatherer so, if you don't mind, send me the info. It would be neat to have statistics on this many boats, for example, how many Hondas, How many Yamis, Suzis, what colors do we buy, etc, etc....

I think I'll use PMs for each of you, some folks don't check their e-mail very often but I know most check this site!!

Thanks for the help, should be a great gathering!

Charlie

OK All, I've got a PM out to each potential attendee asking to fill the holes for information in my spreadsheet. Have already received several responses. Here's the statistics so far, subject to change based on responses:

27 Boats
10 States represented :!:
2 Countries represented :star
60 Adults :male / 1 Kiddo :female /3 Doggies :dog :dog :dog
38 T Shirts Ordered :|

This is shaping up to be a great gathering! Anyone have an idea of the largest number of boats ever at a get together?

Thanks for the help!

Charlie

We did it. We are now arriving at BWI on Thursday night instead of Friday night. Thanks for the heads-up on the traffic jam. That's the sort of info only a local would know.

Steve

PS My special thanks to Charlie of Captains Choice. Due to my ignorance/carelessness I didn't sign us up but due to a lot of work he gathered all our info and sent it to me. Remarkably, it was exactly what I would have entered. I see a tot of Dominican rum in Charlie's future ...

Tshirt orders go in tomorrow..."Last Call for Breakfast" (can anyone be old enought to finish that?)

My barn is piled with boat stuff, some off the old 40 ft. trawler, some for the new 22 c dory. I could have a yard sale...

Current plan for pickup of my boat...May 4..sea trials..overnight at Cutter's on Middle River... May 5, cross the bay to a friend's dock on Worton Creek, and then up to Chestertown for the night..anchor out. May 5,down river to Gray's Inn creekand my slip at Hill's (a family owned marina with a railway, same family for 85 years)...

Hungary on tuesday of next week, back on may 3.

The gathering is sounding great. Here's an update on at least two boats who are coming to the gathering. Went to Cutter today to give them the type-face for the name painter to use for "C's the Day." To my surprise, our boat had arrived from WA just this morning. It was a bit dirty from her 2500 mile trip, but not nearly so bad as I'd thought given the weather out west.

I introduced myself immediately, and we got along great. Went into the office and got the key, and had a look around... Still completely un-touched up inside and out, but it was a lot of fun to be in my very own C-Dory! Everything still needs to be done. Of course the Honda 150 main and 15 kicker still need to be rigged. The bow-rail, the radar arch, the anchor pulpit, windlass, carpet, on and on, needs to be done. Were hoping for the second week of May-- after Terraplane Tom's.

Which brings me to Tom's very pretty boat, which was sitting right next to ours. Took a few pictures of both our boats, and I'll email Tom's to him so he can get an album started like the rest of us. Fair's fair, right? And it is quite a good looking green CD 22!

Also saw a nice looking black CD25, "Luna Pearl," and met her owner who has visited our C-Brat's site many times. I'm emailing him pictures of his boat so he can join C-Brats and start an album too. Again, very nice boat! He's also interested in our gathering and may just show up. We'll see what we can do to get him there.

OK, that's all I have for now. Have a great weekend everyone.

Cheers!

TJ and Jen,

Thanks so much for the update...i'd love to see a picture...i just can't get over the Cutter's before leaving for Hungary and so, i can't get a look at her until May.

tom/terraplane

I had a call from Lankford Bay Marina today to inform me that they can no longer take slip reservations for our gathering.. They are full...appreciative, but full. As it is ,there will be a few rafting up situations, and a few situations where two C dory's will be in one 50' slip...They do have two or three moorings available....

Also, less than a half mile away is a very good spot to anchor, in a protected spot.

I placed the t shirt order today...

Success, success.

tom /terraplane

I'll contact the marina this weekend with the info I have so far and ensure that everyone that thinks they have reservations really do. I still need confirmations from about 10 boats that I've sent PMs to and if they'd send them back, it would really help!
