06/03 - 06/05 Eastern Shore, Maryland gathering

My view: the lower key, the better. Should be somewhere that coolers, kids, dogs are allowed, if possible. At this point, any of those dates are okay for us. Thanks for doing the research!

Tom,

I have kids, I have a dog, and most of the places over here are very informal. Coolers, Kids and Dogs...sounds like a country song.

Hill's Marine Railway is the most laid back, but Langford Bay Marina might be the good choice...pool for kids, and I can check on dogs, but most places allow them if they are monitored for behavior and toilet needs.
Coolers wouldn't be a problem.

Agree on the country song...Coolers, Kids, Dogs....and Dory's...and that is our simply story...

Agree on the owners taking care of their dog's needs too. I love dogs and our family has been owned by them for years. But, a boat owner on our docks....failed to "walk his dog.."... so that nice blue indoor/outdoor carpet some of us have on the docks was just too tempting for the dog. Another owner got mad at the dog...which was only responding to his situation and leash limits... It was the owner, not the dog that screwed things up... Just imagine this story with a little country tune...and a fiddle thrown in every now and then... Might hear this at the Opry in Nashville soon.

If travel plans and retirement schedule works out... may be up to join this gathering. Time will tell.

My, this is turning into a real nifty party. Would the June 3-5 weekend be late enough for the school teachers in the gang? That time frame would probably work best for us, if all is equal for others.

Wow...If we get a "representative" from Alabama, and El and Bill, we will really start this Eastern Eastern Shore thing off with a bang...I'll even donate a trophy for the boat that comes the greatest distance!

How about we call it "Kids, Dogs,Coolers, and C.Dorys"

Chime in on dates which work best . It does seem that for El and Bill the early June is the best possibility...but we will go with what works best for all, they understand that.

Tom

Any of the dates you mentioned are good for us Tom. Only ones that are impossible right now are May 28-29 and July 23-24. June 3-4 would be great.

Chestertown Marina looks like a distant second to the options you've mentioned so far. Although it's in town and next to a park, there's no pool. Would be a great spot to visit over the weekend, however, and we can help with ground tranportation for anyone who needs access to groceries, etc.

Looks like this get-together is shaping up nicely!

Hi to everyone thinking of June eastern shore trip. I am not yet an
owner and probably will not be by this June, however I am on this
site frequently. I have a small house about a mile from Langford
Marina ( Doug I've seen the Annie-B on several occasions! ) and
if the date works you would be welcome to use the place as a
gathering spot. It has a large yard, a decent kitchen and it would
be a good place to get to meet each other in a casual setting. LBMarina
does put out water for pets, and it also is nice depending on the size
of the group. Anyhow the invite is extended if time considerations
work out. I would however, like to check out the boats as reinbursement! :smile Let me know what you think. Steve

Tom,

First part of June sounds good. How long will we be together? If at least two nights, how about one night off Cacaway and one in a slip?

ditto that, tyboo mike. teachers are the best.

So things are beginning to shape up a little. I'll continue to check in to things here, various ideas, and then make a concrete proposal for date and place.

Tyboo Mike:

Thanks for the thumbs-up on teachers. I'm finishing my 30th year this June and retiring. Our new C Dory will be a major part of our retirement plans.

Tom:

Thanks for all of your efforts! Maybe we should bring one of Airedales, too!

Hey -- any of you eastern watermen(women) have a favorite crab cake recipe, handed down through the generations? Or is that like asking a Texan if they can fix a chili, or a New Englander if they can rustle up a chowder? We had some crab cakes once, down in Crisfield, that still cause heart palpitations. Maybe we could have a 'tasting' at the Gathering?
The Gathering ideas sound great!!

El and Bill,

I can assure you that if crabs are running...(we usually have a big run in late May and early June, then they fall of until later in the summer. But we definitely will have crab cakes, and steamed crabs for pickin'

It has really been fun so far doing some of the brainstorming for this event. I think it is possible to have a really great group of people show.
So far I count 12 boats showing interest.

tom

Count me in as lucky # 13 as being interested in joining the group . I cruised that area last summer and had a great time, especially liked Chestertown.

OK, depending on when and where this takes place, we might be the second representatives from Ohio to make the trip. Just depends on drive time to the location and being able to bring the poochies along.

Minnow and Sea Dog.

Absolutely great. Regarding dogs...I will check that out with wherever we decide to group. I'm pretty sure it won't be a problem as long as we are all sensitive to the needs of others around us. Dogs are family on the EasternShore. By the way, this part of Maryland is extremely "nationalistic" about itself. Tried to secede from Maryland on more than one occasion. Favorite bumper sticker is " There is No Life West of The Eastern Shore"

I'll be in toucn as information develops.

tom
Sallly's Sister

By the way,my interest in this is not altogether altruistic. What a great way for a new C Dory owner to gather information from the accumulated experience of all of you.

I think my wife is a bit concerned that my mania for this boat will take me off on some year long quest...I must admit that El and Bill's proposal for an Erie Canal trip in July makes me salivate..but we don't have a trailer...so for now that is out.

Talk to you all soon.
