06/03 - 06/05 Eastern Shore, Maryland gathering

I'll be a new cdory owner (cutter) by April. I was introduced to the boat through this site and by John Siedel, here in Chestertown, on the EasternShore of the Chesapeake.

I'd be interested in exploring a gathering ..weekend?...here, at The Rock Hall Yacht Club, on the Chester River. The club is an old waterman's place, now a bit gentrified..with a great clubhouse, pool, ramp for launching, camping space (have toclear that with the club). The Chester is a great river for exploration. Even though I will be new to the boat, I've been boating on the Bay and this river for 33 years...

Would others be interested in this idea?

OK, It seems that June 3,4,5 is shaping up to be the best choice...

So, it looks like you guys are set for a great one! We'll get you a signup list right away.

Have fun, and never stop planning.........

I'll begin to talk to RHYC about possible weekends of availabity. If we keep it simple, shouldn't be too problematic. I would ask for Friday to Sunday night or MOnday morning. I'll look at June, July, August, September.

As someone on c'brats once said "heck, three boats makes a cruise..." so i'll approach this with that in mind.

(i've been using terraplane as my name, but the new boat name will be
SALLY'S SISTER (thus pleasing both of my daughters, Sally and Julia. This really confused them..Which one is the boat named for?)

Thanks for the suggestion. We missed last years get-together on Cod Creek and look forward to a C-Dory gathering.

Terrific idea Tom! Count us in, and we'll be happy to help with planning/logistics since we're nearby. Rock Hall would be a great place for a gathering, and you've got a great facility.

In a previous thread, some folks suggested that they might head for the Chester River at the end of May, to be here in Chestertown for the Tea Party weekend. (For the uninitiated, Chestertown dumped English tea in sympathy with Boston, and its's the cause for a huge celebration here each year). I didn't follow up on the suggestion immediately, as I was unsure of Tea Party dates. Turns out it is the last weekend of May, and I'll be out of town. Would be happy to help anyone who wants to come with arrangements or information, but we'll be away.

Let us know what dates look good for a gathering...

Glad we were able to take you out on Lizzie Ann when we did - weather's been pretty miserable since then!

What i imagine is people coming late on a Friday...the RHYHC has dock space, some slips and plenty of room for anchoring out. The clubhouse has showers, bar, a place to relax. There is a pavilion for picnic type activity and there will be a new swimming pool by summer.

There could be an exploration of the Chester River on Saturday, with a trip up river to Chestertown, a wonderful Colonial town.

I willhave a few possible dates in a day or so.

We're keeping an eye on this thread. We hope to be coming north in late spring, and it would be fun to join with a Chester River Gathering, if the time worked out. We will be coming north on 'cruise time,' so don't know when we will be to the Chester, but probably late May/early June. Of course, set your dates for your best timing, and if we can make it we'll sure give it a try.

El and Bill,

Good to hear from you. I am looking at dates now, withthe club director.
It would be great to have you guys. In fact, it would be fun to have you do some kind of presentation about your travels. I think all of us would really enjoy that.

I think we can guarantee a good experience here on the Eastern Shore.

I'll be in touch.

Marcia and I will take delivery of Valkyrie from Cutter on June 2. We would love to get together with fellow owners. This weekend would be great for us!

Also, Ohio is only about 6-7 hours away, so count on us joining you other times in the future!

Nick,

I will be hearing from the club about available weekends. If June 3-5 is available,it might be a good choice. Crabs are beginning to run then.
I'll keep in touch.

We are just across the bay from Cutter....I'd guess about an hour and a half running time...maybe a bit more to get up into the river.

This boat is taking far too much of my time. Boat fever ,to put it mildly.

I am picking up my C-Dory around the same time you are, and we would like to join you. We will be coming from Stoney Creek just across the Bay from you. Anytime on a weekend. We do camp also, but it is so close we could come on a Sunday afternoon.

Shoot.... Yall come on down to Nashville for the 1s weekend in Apr05... Then, a few of us plan to kick around a bit for the 1st "full" week of Apr05 anyway. Then... who knows where we will drift to. Great to have some more action on the East Side! GREAT NAME for the vessell too. Enjoyed some time leaving from Sunset Marina around Ft. Monroe and kicking about in the area/bay for about 3 weeks... Loved the area.

Well, looks like we "right coasters" might get this Eastern Shore gathering going. I'll have more information after this weekend and will offer a few choices for consideration.

This is a "first time effort" for me, so be patient. But with all the stuff on the site from the left coast crowd, we should be able to put something together.

It would be great to see a crowd of c.dorys bobbing on Langford Bay.(the site just off Chester River).

Ok, here's an update.

The Rock Hall Yacht Club is available to us..but the hitch is they have a policy of no alcohol can be brought in except by the club, and has to be sold by a bartender.. While i am not what i would consider a boozer, I think the informality of this type of occasion is dampened by a rule like this..they are very nice people, but the law is the law.

So, just around the corner is Grays Inn Creek, and Hill's Marina, where I keep my present boat..Has showers, restroom, docks, electric. Kind of a rugged place but one of the last "real" boatyards on the Upper Bay. STill has a marine railway in operation. I'm sure they would accommodate us.

Another possibility: Rock Hall Harbor...at North Point Marina. Nice place, pool, paviliaon for cookouts.. We'd have to rent slips for each night.

Of course, there is always the choice a raft up too.

If people arrived on Friday, I would imagine Saturday might include a run to Chestertown, lunch, some exploration, back to the lower river, a cookout of some kind...party...Sunday, relax, talk, etc.

So, register your feelings about all of this.

Here are the suggested dates:

June 3-5
June 24-26
July 8-10
All weekends in August

Give me some feedback and then I'll continue to plan. Impossible to please everyone, but we'll work something out.

Langford Bay Marina also has very good facilities, nice slips, moorings, picnic tables, ac showers, covered eating area, pool, barbeques, gas, and has been our marina for the last 4 yrs.

Good feedback so far.
Langford Bay...Great idea...I'm sure Doug would accommodate us.
And Cacaway too, if a raft up is a good idea. Maybe we'd run into John Barth!
Keep the ideas comin'
What about some choices of dates?

By the way, I operate a music and arts venue in Rock Hall.. The Mainstay...so I'm a musician. We'd be sure to have music at this gathering!
