06/03 - 06/05 Eastern Shore, Maryland gathering

We have reserved a slip for halcyon on Friday and Saturday night at the marina, and a space in Tom's "field" for the truck and trailer. Looks like a great Gathering coming up.

Marcia and I have a slip reserved for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We're not heading home until Tuesday, but we head somewhere else for Sunday if anyone else has any ideas.

Eileen and I registered this morning, we have not given a name too the boat yet. I pick her up on the 29th. I am leaning towards the name of Katie Marie. Tom the folks at the marina were very nice this morning. Fri night to Sunday morning.

Marcia and Nick --
We'll be hanging around for awhile after the Gathering, maybe heading down toward the Potomac with Pat and Patty -- maybe swing on a hook Sunday night together, unless P&P have a tight schedule to return southerly.

El and Bill:

Sounds good to us! Marcia will probably make me promise not to fill the night with stories about my career as a teacher. Oh well, we would have her outnumbered 3 to 1. Howver, when we go out to dinner with her vet colleagues there have been times when neighboring diners have requested to be moved so they don't have to hear about diseased livers, etc. while they're trying to eat.

Looking forward to meeting everyone that I have been communicating with for the last few months.

P&P's only constraint is that we need to get to Long Island by the following weekend for Patty's nephew's wedding, so we are game for just about anything that Otter Tom is willing to let us do! And we need to end up in Alexandria at the end of the cruise to return the boat...

Marcia and Nick -- and others with time to spare after the Gathering.

Looks like there will be a 'contingent' doing some cruising after the Gathering -- open to any and all who have the time and inclination. Maybe we can have a volunteer 'native guide' who would like to help guide some of us to your favorite spots?

OK, Bonnie and I are set with a slip at Lankford for Friday and Saturday nights. Will be just the two of us. We decided to leave the Miniature Schnauzers at home. Tom, I'll be launching by your house and using the field for parking like we discussed. Sure do appreciate you putting this all together.

This is fantastic. We are sending some mighty fine ambassadors across the country. And they will be received by some great people, too. I had to go back through the discussion to figure out Pat's "return the boat" comment. Somehow I missed parts of the thread. Amazing. Simply amazing. It makes me feel good.

Tom.... I got your Email thru my filter and appreciate you're offering to let us park in your field, eventually you'll have to let me know where that field is.....

I call Langsford Bay Marina today and gave my deposit for June 3, 4 & 5th. Don't know exactly when we'll arrive in the area, but it will probably be a day or so earlier.

We picked up the new boat yesterday and am pleased how well it trailered behind my Jeep Cherokee in 20 to 30 MPH cross winds!. Naturally the same winds have kept us from a shakedown cruise, but maybe next week

P&P,

You are authorized to do anything and go anywhere in the Otter that you would in your own boat! She particularly likes to be beached in secluded areas, accumulate large numbers of empty beer cans in her trash bin, and go fast over flat water. Oh yes, Otter also loves to be out in bad weather when all the other boats are dockside or on their trailers. She will love getting to know Halcyon and will no doubt pester me mercilessly to take her on similar adventures. (She doesn't understand that whole "making a living" thing, and sometimes neither do I!)

So glad you can come.

Tom

Does it require a hammer and nails to "make a living", or can you make one from a kit? My owners made one once, but Otter, maybe I can teach you how to keep your folks from making one. Halcyon

WOW.... this trip looks tempting... Sherryl and I return from Japan around 28May.... I might could (southern term) leave FreeByrd in Nashville after the Apr gathering/trips.... then pull her up for this gathering. Catching a bit of flack from Sherryl for me starting some "retirement travels" while she is still trying "to make a living.."/at work... but, she might just hop a plan for this trip. I promised her all of these trips are needed for me to "train-up to standards" prior to our "Retirement Deployment" of the Great Loop. You are right... that did not go over real good... but so far, so good. See some of yall in Nashville/Mt. Juliet, and hopefully I can make this too..but, I will have to wait and see.

Hell all,

I'm just back from New Smyrna Beach, Fla, visiting my "snowbird" brother. He rents a place on the inland waterway..and I sat on the porch developing my plans...let's see, next winter, Marathon?

Anyway, we are well underway for a great gathering. If all who say they are coming truly come, we could have as many as 24 boats here. Just had two calls today to add. Lankford Bay Marina is impressed...with the turnout and the attention to registering. If you haven't called, do so pretty soon.

A few of us are meeting this Saturday, here in Rock Hall, to talk details. Should be fun. And thanks to those who have volunteered to help. Friday the 3rd could be a bit chaotic, with rigs arriving, boats coming in, last minute details, etc. But in chaos there is order..who said that?

I'll be checking the thread for total numbers, but my main list is the event signup list, so sign up up you haven't.

I'll be sending off a suggested plan for Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night and Sunday morning after our little group meets. Feel free to toss back ideas...

And thanks, Tyboo, for the nice comment. I find it amazing too. These boats have karma. I don't know a soul i'm writing to and I already feel that I've known most for years.

By the way, the folks at Cutter are going to try very hard to make at least part of the event. Weekends are, of course, their busiest time.

I understand my boat is being put together as we speak.. exciting.

Hey Tom,

I noticed that this gathering has not been posted on the C-Dory Owners site. You may be able to round up a few more boats if it was posted. In the spirit of brotherhood, should we do that?

Dun (CTYankee)

Dun,

Absolutely...can you take care of it or do i have to do it? The more the merrier...let's make this a great beginning of a future tradition.
