Hunkey Dory also joined the list. I did not know about event sign ups. My wife will not be able to make the trip.I will still be going. i did check with Causeway Marina, They said that the city of Cheasapeke will close the draw bridge one weekend in may, They did not now witch won yet. they said check back in 2 weeks for more info. Do each one of us need to make reservations in Coinjock and Elizabeth City? Neal

Neal,

Thanks for the heads up on the drawbridge. I am making the reservations at Coinjock for the group. Coinjock has a 1200 foot long dock and the main reason for reservations is to allow us to be together. For Elizabeth City dockage I am calling the Marinas this week to determine our options. I will provide an update on Elizabeth City in a day or two.

Richard

Planning update Elizabeth City dockage/facilities:

Mariners’ Wharf (252-335-5330): This is the Elizabeth City marina that provides free dockage on a first come basis (no reservations taken). Their facilities include 14 slips and bulkhead (along-side) dockage at Waterfront Park. Depending on wind conditions the bulkhead dockage may not be an option if the wind and waves push you into the bulkhead. Also, with the Potato Festival some of the bulkhead may be used for festival activities. I have heard that when conditions were good up to 25 boats have docked at Mariners’ Wharf. I was told by Elizabeth City personnel that last year, during the Potato Festival, the docks had slips available all week-end. There are no restrooms/showers at Mariners’ Wharf.

The Pelican Marina (252-335-5108): This is the marina just across the drawbridge form Elizabeth City. They have transient slips and an overflow T-dock where you can tie up along-side. When I talked to them today I was told that they could take up to 6 boats in slips and more if the T dock is usable (based on wind conditions). They have a flat fee of $35/night. They do have restrooms/showers.

Elizabeth City Shipyard (252-333-6105): This marina is southeast of Elizabeth City and a longer walk into town. When I talked to them today I was told we should be able to obtain dockage in Elizabeth City, however if needed they would help us out. This is a boat repair facility and does not have facilities.

In addition, there is a good protected anchorage just before Elizabeth City on the Pasquotank River. This would require a dinghy to get to Elizabeth City.

Fuel: There is no fuel in Elizabeth City unless you have a removable fuel tank. The city dock does have a cart that can be used to haul the tank to the local gas station a couple blocks away. Fuel is available at Lambs Marina (252-338-1957) about 4 miles prior to Elizabeth City just off the Pasquotank River. Lambs Marina also has some transient slips and I suspect a taxi would be available to get one to Elizabeth City.

Given the number of options for Elizabeth City and the possibility that we may not all be able to dock together, each boat should make their own plans/reservations for this stop. If anyone out there has additional information on Elizabeth City please don’t hesitate to offer it to the group.

We are only at 14 shirts. If we can't come up with 6 more by Thursday of next week, we will have to break out the fabric paint at the rest stop and make our own.

Tivo

Keep in mind that Kathie and I will be good for 2 more shirts if needed to make up the numbers, I believe 1 or 2 others also mentioned this a few weeks ago. Would hate to miss out on the shirt, how else could we say, "Been there, done that, got the tee-shirt?"

Rich

Tivo, If needed I will spring for another T-shirt or 2. We gotta have the T-shirts. Richard

Shirts it is then. I will order either this week or when I get back from Africa on the 18th. I am really looking forward to the trip and seeing everyone.

I have made reservations for the group at Coinjock Marina on Sunday May 22nd. I will need to update them a couple days prior to our arrival. I would appreciate if you keep the C-Brat event list updated based on your intentions on making the trip. This Event List is what I am using for making these reservations.

Thanks, Richard

I did some research on bridges and locks we may need to contact during the loop. The bridges listed below are all under 10 feet vertical clearance when closed. To request a bridge opening contact bridges on Channel 13 or provide an appropriate horn signal (one long and one short). The bridge at Elizabeth City which we will need to go under is listed on the charts as 2 foot vertical clearance when closed. It is actually 12 foot vertical clearance when closed, however if the winds are pushing the Pasquotank River towards the bridge you may only have 10 foot vertical cleanance. I would encourage everyone making the trip to review the charts and warteway guides to become familar with the route.

Richard Thanks for posting the bridges and lock times. The Centerville Swing Bridge will be closed for vehicular traffic sometime this month or next. A truck mounted crane hit the top. The City of Chesapeak will do the repairs. Causeway marina did not know the date. It will be open for boat traffic.

The T-shirt shirt order is in, they are 17.50 each. I will post the final approved art work next week when the company sends it to me.

I will accept cash (dollars or euros only please), checks, gas, food, women, boats, or small children that work hard. Please, no futures options, stocks, bonds, securities, pork bellies or other commodities, or foreclosed realestate.

Look forward to cruising with you all!

Morning Richard.......per you input on page 6 of Carolina Loop.......

Lady KC is still planning on travelling the 200 miles up to
Mile Marker 0 to meet all the other C-Brats.....

Our schedule is to be at Bennets Marina at Mile Marker 10 on the Thursday evening...........

Question.......is this still a good Thursday night rendezvous location.

We plan on travelling up through Coinjock and then
departing back to New Bern from Elizabeth City.

Bill and Kc,

Sorry about the delay in getting back, I have been out of town for the last week.

We are each doing our own thing on Thursday night based on where we put in. I have not talked to Bennets Creek Marina and do not know if anyone else is starting from there. I would call the Marina to find out availability for dockage, etc. I am putting in Thursday at Centerville Waterway Marina and I know a couple other boats are also using that Marina. On Friday we will travel from the Centerville Waterway Marina to the Dismal Swamp Visitor Center.

By the way, we may break the record for the number of boats staying overnight at the Visitor Center. They have a 150 foot dock and with 16 C-Dorys and maybe others traveling the ICW and staying overnight, this could be a very large raft-up. I hope we are all friendly.

Richard

Had the correct ICW Mile Marker.......
just the incorrect marina......

I will call and make transient reservations at
Centerville Waterway Marina
for Thursday night, May.19.

Richard.....if all goes as scheduled.........see you there.

It is then just a short run up to the north entrance
of ICW Route 2 heading towards the Dismal Swamp.
