If we get enough folks, what would you all think of a t-shirt?

Tivo, I might be up for a trip across the bay weather depending and thanks for the offer to park the rig.

I have thought about a t-shirt, looks like we may already have a design. It seems one can't do anything anymore without one. There is a place in Salisbury, Md that will do small orders at a reasonable price.

Its 27 degrees in Ocean City, can't wait for May.

Love the t-shirts!!! Put us down for 2 of them if you decide to do them. Man I'm excited about this cruise, I have driven past the Coinjock Restaurant for years by car on the way to the outer banks, and never actually stopped there. From what I've read lately I have been remiss.

Earnie, I can't tell you how excited I am as well. With as cold as it is here, I too can hardly wait for May. Heck, I can't wait for March. I think we could be up to 5 shirts already, so an order should be very easy to put together. Richard, I would love to take the trip across the bay with you on the Thursday, and no issue at all leaving your rig here, I have tons of room, as long as you don't park on top of my septic tank, its cool :wink:
 
This looks like a very good trip, we may join in on all the fun. The end of May sounds good, should be good weather then. The Tee shirts go with any type of Cruise. Jim
 
If we can get between 20-24 T-shirts ordered for the event, cost will be $17.50 for each. If we can get 36 (that may be optimistic), cost will drop to $13. I would need a hard count 2 weeks prior. They would have big design on back and small on on front left chest.
 
Tivo , Count the Hunky Dory in. We will take two t- shirts, we also like the design. Right by the I- 64 Interstate there is a public boat ramp whithin walking distance of Willoby Spit Marina. There is not any fuel there. I do plan to check on the cost to leave riggs and an overnight stay there.There is a recent Marina that has opened in The I.C.W.I will check on that one too. They do have fuel. It is located on route 17 in the DEEP CREEK section o Cheasapeske Va

Skimmer would love to make this trip, but don't know if school schedule will allow. Put us down as a definite "maybe," any way and we'll watch this topic for developments in the plan.
 
Kathie and I are planning to make the trip and I added our boat to the sign up list this afternoon, sounds like just what we got the c-dory for. Also add a couple tee-shirts on the list for us. Thanks,

The master is for the entire 139 mile loop, beginning and ending off Norfolk/Portsmouth. This contains too many waypoints to be loaded into most plotters, so it has been broken down into three legs, each with slight overlap of the other. These legs can be copied onto a chip, and uploaded into Garmin plotters, or uploaded directly from your computer, depending on what setup you have. Although the master is too large for most plotters, it works just fine in Garmin's computer applications.

The underlying cartography is not strictly current, but this route is about as static as you can get, without any inlets. I have yet to find any significant discrepancies between the cartography and actual conditions here. We can check the Local Notice to Mariners before leaving for necessary updates, which we should do anyway.

I did check with Willoughby Harbour Marinia about leaving riggs there. I did not get a phone call back. I also checked with TOP RACK MARINIA about riggs. The answer was no we cannot leave our riggs there, They do have fuel and we can tie up for overnight, They do have a restraunt there. Top Rack is on the north side of the HIGHWAY 17 bridge. It is a draw bridge. We will have no problem going under. I did check with Centervill Waterway Marinia. They do have a ramp ,fuel and we will be able to leave our riggs there. Centervile Marinia is 10 - 15 mils south of THE GREAT BRIDGE LOCKS. :D It does sound like a fun trip

I looked at the Centerville Waterway Marina identified by Wallkerbay in the previous post. See (http://marinas.com/view/marina/2278_Centerville_Waterway_Marina_Chesapeake_VA). According to the chart it is at about Mile Marker 15 on the ICW which puts it at the same distance from the Dismal Swamp Visitor Center as Norfolk. We would have approximately 28 miles and two lock the first day (Great Bridge and Deep Creek) to the DS Visitor Center. I still think that going counter clockwise is the best direction since the DS Visitor Center is not open on Sundays that time of year. Also for those that are bringing their boat by trailer, going from Coinjock on Monday back to where we put in is only about 35 miles instead of 50 miles to Norfolk, allowing an earlier getaway for those that have appointments Tuesday.

Given that we start at Centerville Waterway Marina, this options itinerary is:
Friday – travel to Dismal Swamp Visitor Center (28 miles)
Saturday – travel to Elizabeth City (20 miles)
Sunday – travel to Coinjock (32 miles)
Monday – back to Centerville Waterway Marina or home base (35 miles)

Centreville Marina makes the distances very managable and easy, especially for the 16s. The added benefit of launch and leave is nice too. I like this option too.
 
Is anyone going from this Gathering(5/20-5/23) to the Chesapeakes (6/2??) I was wondering if anyone has thought about this we could maybe do pamlico sound or southern Chesepeake just wondering if there is any interest . I would like to attend but this and the other Chesepeake so we could be gone about 2weeks or so .
 
I spoke with the director of Parks Service's in Portsmouth to see if vehicle / trailer rigs could be left at Portsmouth's City Park (launch and parking is free at a new double ramp with finger piers), as it is literally around the corner from mile marker zero. Unfortunatly, the policy is 24 hours and they would not wave the rules for us.
My driveway is capable of taking about 4 rigs, so that is an option for those that want to be at the mouth of the Western Branch right next to our starting point and the option to moor around 10 boats on the floating dock at my house is still available for anyone.
One option for rigs that I don't have room for is to launch at City Park and leave your rig at a lot close by (something I could work on if you are interested).
As far a other local marinas and fuel at mile marker zero:
Portsmouth Boating Center has fuel, pump out, docks, travel lift and a forklift style lift; Tidewater Yacht Marina has fuel, pump out, docks, floating piers, restaurant, walking distance to downtown restaurants; Ocean Marine has fuel, floating piers, forklift style lift, travel lift, pump out, adjacent to all downtown restaurants; Waterside Marina has floating docks and is adjacent to downtown resturants and a shopping mall.

Steve, thanks for checking with City Park and offering the use of your dock and driveway. How far is it from City Park to your place, is it within walking distance? This should be a good option for those that want to explore Portsmouth and Norfolk area.

Currently I am leaning towards using Centerville Waterway Marina for the convenience of the ramp, parking and dock all in one place, and the shorter distance to travel on Monday. Having a couple options for getting the boats in the water and being in a place to start on Friday will provide flexibility for individual schedules. Both places allow us to meet at the Dismal Swamp Visitor Center on Friday afternoon for our first get together and trip kickoff.
