The cockpit floor is back down and caulked!
Pat,

Did you have to repair/replace the fuel tank??

No, I had to have the gas de-watered. We are normally slow cruisers, 6-7 knots. I'll spare the gory details but coming home from James Island for a medical emergency, we had the pedal to the metal and when I got home, the external fuel water separator was completely full of water, no gas at all. I had a mobile service from Blaine do it. I had to remove the cockpit floor so they could access the fuel gauge sender unit to pump the gas out through a filter. Then they cut in an access port with a cover, and I put a hatch in the cockpit floor right over it. So we will have easy access now if ever needed again. They put the good gas back in and hauled off the contaminated gas. We are now fueled with non-ethanol gas with Stabil 360, keeping our fingers crossed.

Here is what it looks like.

Hi Pat,

Glad you made it home quickly when you needed to. Hope all is well.

You have probably read my water in the gas and ethanol woes. Now when I cruise unfamiliar areas, I Google non-ethanol fuel docks. That stuff cost me a bomb when I broke down with 3 gallons of water in the fuel.

Martin.

Martin, I did not read you thread, can you put up a link to it? I searched to no avail, I would like to see what your experience was. I am not sure our issue was solely ethanol gas, that was probably part of it, but there are other ways water gets into the tank or tanks, as has been discussed due to the poor design/placement of the overflow vents. Anyway, we think all is well now, and on to FRIDAY HARBOR!

Pat, I'm a techno-retard, I have no clue to putting up links (nor do I want to know, just in case some one wants to help). I'm the guy who on the day I retired, threw my cell phone in the garbage can. True story.

I checked my "My Topics" and could not find the discussion on my ethanol woes. It's a long story, I'll tell you over a beer in FH, (It is your round this year)

Wanted to bring this thread backup to the top so if anyone has questions, it's easy to find. And, wanted to be sure that everyone coming saw this piece of the post:

New for this year, we will have a contest for the best decorated boat and other categories that the C-Brat kids will vote on at 4:30 Saturday. Winners will be announced at the potluck. Come prepared to have some fun with this event!

We are splashing Daydream this afternoon and heading for Shallow Bay on Sucia. Plans not definite after that except to arrive at FH as early on Friday as possible!

Who is Salish Sea? We are anchored at Blind Bay off Blind Island State Park, and Salish Sea just took a mooring buoy a short distance away. It is a cabernet CD22 Cruiser...

OK, mystery solved when they motored over! It is Salish C not "Salish Sea." It is Ivar and Phyllis,on the former Kingfisher. They are just out for the day from Anacortes.

Well for the first time in the history of the Friday harbor gathering Susan and I will not be there. Now stop the cheering and stay calm. Susan had surgery a few weeks ago and is not up to speed yet so we are going to stay home. She is fine but sitting in a chair or riding in the car ( and I assume the boat) are hard on her. She had a large tumor removed , it was benign , little over a liter in size. We will be thinking of all of you and pouting. Some one please bring use fresh shrimp. have fun and please be careful on the water.

We launched late last night at Bellingham. Still have things to do and restoration after 2 long days driving. Maybe head out Thursday.
Steve and Karen

So sorry to hear of Susan's tumor and subsequent surgery. So glad that it was found to be benign. We will miss the both of you. Take care and we hope you get on the water real soon.

So sorry to hear you have to rest up Susan, get well soon and hope to see you in Canadian waters later on. Maybe the Powell River gathering will tempt you?
I was so looking forward to discussing with Tom the Presidential election process. Us Canadians are still scratching our heads.

Martin and Andrea.
