05/17 - 05/20 - North Carolina Loop Cruise

Changed my user I-D due to lost password. I have checked on T-Shirts and the cost. they are $17.00- $20.00. I would like a confirmed count please. Who makes reservations at the various marinas and restaurants ? Thanks Neal

To All, I will not be able to make the cruise. I am having some medical problems. I will not be able to take T-Shirt orders. I do wish I could make the trip. :( My boat is ready but not this captain. Thanks All Have A Great Time Neal

Neal, sorry to hear that you can't make the trip, but Joan and I wish the best for you and Jeanne.
To all others that are signed up for the trip, I will call and make reservations for our stay at Pelican Marine in Elizabeth City and our stay at Coinjock at Coinjock Marine. For those putting in at Centerville, please call and make arrangements for your vehicle, trailer and boat.
Best regards,
Steve Baum

Loopers,
Today I made tentative arrangements for our group to moor at Pelican Marine in E-City and definite arrangements for us to moor at Coinjock Marine in Coinjock.
Joan and I look forward to seeing all of you!
Best regards,
Steve Baum

Steve:

Thanks for making these arrangements. I'm looking forward to the trip, and am looking at launching on either Tuesday the 14th or Wednesday the 15th, depending on the support needs of a USCG Auxiliary activity here. You going to be around those days?

David

Pelican called back today and affirmed our reservations and ask if there would be anyone with a requirement for 50 amp shore tie service. Shore tie connection is included if you want it... I told them that if someone in our group wanted more than a standard 30 amp service, I'd let them know, so please inform me if you plan to tow your house behind your C-Dory and need more than 30 amps. Pelican is not fancy, but does have a nice shower, laundry, ice, basic boat supplies and internet service.
Just to refresh the game plan for the trip as was discussed several time in this thread here is what was agreed to (or should I say that no one objected to).
5/17/13 Underway and lock through Deep Creek Locks to the visitors center in the Dismal Swamp Canal. All but ORCA will be at my dock beforehand and ORCA is just around the corner, so we can work on a locking time of 1100 or 1330 (my vote is 1330).
5/18/13 Underway to Elizabeth City and moor at Pelican Marina (the Potato Festival will be in full swing when we get there.
5/19/13 Underway to Coinjock ad moor at Coinjock Marina.
5/20/13 Final leg of trip back to starting point (looks like everyone will be in Portsmouth at finish).
Any questions? call me at 757-477-1453
Best regards,
Steve Baum

Sea Angel & Mate (Art & Jan) plan to meet everyone at the NC Visitor's Center. I would guess our ETA of 1430, Friday, should work unless an earlier time is suggested.

We have a standing commitment with a charity group every 3rd Saturday, "Newborns In Need", where we collect, organize and prepare items for needy mothers and their new infants. We are board members and I also do the photo work. That is why we will not be able to make this cruise.

It would be very handy to have a head count for planning purposes. I plan to carry a case of bottle water for distribution for anyone to use & take with them. If more is needed, please let me know so I will have enough for all C-Brats.

I have a portable single burner gas bottle grill I will throw in for use. If there is any other items you would like support with, I will see what I can do. If there are any special (reasonable :smiled ) request, throw that in also.

Dave, ALMAS ONLY, I'll see what I can do about the ice cream. See, I still remember.

I live abt 60 minutes away but with a little planning, should not have any effect.

Glad to learn you'll be able to join us, if only for a while. Very thoughtful, and I will look forward to the ice cream. You have an excellent memory!

David

Hi Dave;
I'm looking forwar to seeing everyone again. That Langford trip we took together was the highlight all my boating years. Your help and confidence made it a great trip, even with the heavy seas.

Loopers,
I recommend that we make the 1100 lock time at Deep Creek. If we wait until the next locking, it could jeopardize our opportunity for docking at the Visitors Center, as there will still be plenty of snowbirds heading north and using the dock.
With that said, we are about 14 miles from the locks from my dock. A portion of that trip will be in a no wake zone (before Hospital Point until south of the Naval Shipyard), so the trip should take around 1 hour and 20 minutes (ballpark number 5-6 kts no wake and 12-14 kts outside of the zone). The Gilmerton Bridge has been replaced, so that is no longer a consideration for a lift requirement, but there still is the railroad bridge that closes just when a train is passing. Bottom line is that we need to get underway no later than 0915 to ensure that we won't miss the lock time. Of course if we leave at 0900, we can have a much more leisurely time of making the opening with ample time to allow for a train.
Best regards,
Steve Baum

Steve

Thanks - I'll set both up in my scan menu. Looks like I won't have any Coast Guard Auxiliary commitments tomorrow, so am planning on heading on down, and splashing at the park as before. If you're going to be around tomorrow afternoon or evening, maybe we can move my tow rig over to your place? If not, we can do it whenever you're around. I plan on anchoring at Hospital Point, so won't be too far away.

David

I get off work around 1430, so I'd be more than happy to help you jockey your rig.
Best regards,
Steve Baum

Steve;
If all meet the 1100 lock opening, what is the ETA at the NC Visitor's Center?

If all goes as planned, Jan and I hope to be there to hold a table, greet everyone, help with the setup and docking.

Art,
The time of arrival depends on our speed. The DSW is a no wake zone, so if we abide by the rules we will arrive around 1330, If we push to minimal planning speed, we would be there around 1245.
PS, Dave put in this afternoon and left his rig at my house and is spending the next several days putting around the local area.
Best regards,
Steve Baum

Thanks Steve;
I pocked up 30 ice cream cups for Friday. I also have some chocolate sprinkles. I expect everyone will have spoons.

I just pulled out my cooler, MAGAM portable grill(gas , AL foil & tools) if this is needed. I plan to pick up some 'dry ice' and abt 5# of ice for the cooler. I will have plenty of bottle water to hand out.

Is there anything else wanted, besides 'gas money'?

Art,
Thanks for your help and we look forward to seeing you and Jan.
Our squadron is dwindling a bit as Steve Dore has a very sick wife and will not be making the trip.
What else would I like? Maybe a C-Dory 25...(3 foot-itus).
Best regards,
Steve Baum
