05/17 - 05/19 - Friday Hbr CBGT, 2019

I would like to spend some time south of the Canadian border after the gathering.

Is anyone else going to be cruising around the area or have good suggestions about where to go and what to see.

I will have about 10 days after the gathering.

(cgypsy) We like to purchase our annual tee shirts and other apparel from the self pay Sea Chest at the Stuart Island School House from a short hike at Reid Harbor. Afterwards, we walk through the old school house, look at all the historical pictures of people who lived on the island and then walk through the library. If you feel energetic you can take a hike to the Lighthouse from there also. It is about a 2 mile hike but well worth it. In the summer months starting about the weekend of the 4th of July they have tours of the lighthouse, museum and keepers' quarters. from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to Labor Day weekend.

You can moor at Eagle Harbor on Cypress Island and from there hike all the natural areas on the trail system. Cypress is a beautiful island.

There are so many other places to explore in the islands that we and others can share with you at Friday Harbor. The Brats will be gathering for donuts, juice, coffee etc. Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the end of H-Dock. That would be a good time to hear more about travel in the San Juans.

See you at the event...Gary and Colleen.

I did that walk and it was really nice.

The other places I haven't been to and will put them on my list.

It would also be nice go exploring with another boat if anyone else will be around the area.

Gary and Colleen, that is a nice hike, love all the history on this island (typing this from Reid Harbor). But just a heads up, this year the light house and surrounding area is closed off until June 17 for lead remediation. In my opinion the hike to Turn Point is still worth it just to sit there and watch the rip rides and passing ships.

I think we had this conversation a few years ago, but I searched the forum and can't find it so maybe it was my imagination.

Do we have a C-Brats Group MMSI#?

If we do, how many C-Brats actually use it or have it programmed into their radio?

It would be a great way to communicate with other C-Brats when we are all going to be in the same area such as the Friday Harbour CBGT.

Hi Sandra, You are right, we did, and I do
I know it is on here, and I have it on the boat and I just remembered I put it in my phone, so, here it is.
036697831 and there was a big discussion about where it cam from etc here on the site.

The Hunkydory is at the Fossil Bay dock, Sucia Island State Park. Jo-Lee much better but still not up to boating, so I’m solo. I launched at Sequim this morning & had smooth water all the way here with the sun shining & temperature near perfection. Old Yellowstone friends, Les & Sandy who moved to Sequim from Bozeman, Montana are storing my truck
& trailer at their house. They just went from a twin 500 hp Hewes Craft to a 25 foot Ranger Tug & will be taking their maiden voyage on it Monday with meeting me at Jones Island.

We will arrive at Friday Harbor Thursday & looking forward to seeing everyone.

Looks like I will need to keep the VHF manual handy for a while. I have the "official MMSI" in the radio so it will work.

I just received the C-BRAT gathering totes, 3 of them, and no way will I have room for 3 so combined as much as possible. Will have cups, plates, plastic silverware  whatever you call them, some large black garbage bags and the banner. Also, name tags.

There are 2, 1.5-2.0 liter thermos containers, No coffee machine, and some tea and sugars. this will be available for the Sat breakfast time and the potluck.

At this point we have 6 vessels signed up for the Vessel Safety Inspection, and only 6 signed up for the Thursday night. We could use some more for each. The VSI usually generates more on the day as the CG Volunteers go about doing their thing. The Thursday night discount is only available IF we have 10 C-BRAT attendees there for the night.

We have 38 vessels (or at least entities) signed up for the event. There are a few that are showing up, not as vessels but visitors. Glad to have them, and welcome.

Really looking forward to tomorrow and the rest of this week. SleepyC gets on the water tomorrow, at least that is the plan.

Just a quick heads up - don't get too high of hopes for the new 30A shore power to be working 100%. Been here the last two nights with the crew of Agostino (thechadmiller), Friday night the power worked but not Sat night. It's currently out on the entire south side of H and north side of G. Talking to other boaters who spoke to the electrician yesterday it's an ongoing problem, been happening every weekend for weeks and it doesn't sound like the root cause will be solved by next weekend. Problem is that if it goes out after hours, it's not like the electrician is onsite 24/7 to fix it at night. Hopefully with an entire H dock of C-Dory's we won't draw much load and won't have this problem during the gathering.

Wanted to say Hi to all our C-Brat friends. We so enjoyed our years attending the FH gathering. We still cruise the Gulf Islands and San Juans. Of course, FH being one of our favourites. Weekend of your gathering we will be flying to Ottawa, new g/son has arrived.
If you see us out on the water and remember our boat name, do say hi.
"once a Brat, always a Brat".

Martin and Andrea Bridges.
2011-2016, 22 C-Dory "Nomad".
2016-present, Camano Troll 31 "Gypsy Rose".

Some of us coming to Friday Harbour will be from Canada and others from the US will be going to Canada after the gathering.

Does anyone know the proper flag protocol when cruising in another country?

I think I am supposed to fly both the Canada flag and an American flag. I think my own country should be bigger, but I'm not sure which one is supposed to fly higher or maybe it doesn't matter.

I do not have an American flag and they aren't for sale at my local store so I am wondering if someone would like to trade a Canadian flag for an American flag.

I think I just need a small US flag and I can bring a small Canadian flag to trade.

From what I understand, fly the current country's flag (where you are physically located), higher than your home flag. IE, I did a little research about this earlier, and this is how I'm going to fly flags while I am in Canada. My US ensign will be flown in it's normal location on the flagstaff at the boats stern. I have a Canadian Flag (which is just a tad bit larger, only because the US and Canada don't seem to have the same size flags...) that I will fly from the mid point of my 8' VHF antenna that is mounted on my roof. I think Dr. Bob is a lot more experienced about this, and hopefully he'll chime in. Hopefully I'm doing it right this time. :) Colby

I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend, and Mike, thanks for the heads up regarding shore power. I guess I'll need to leave my 50" TV and other power draining toys at home.

The weather here last week was enviable even for August, but this week will be cooler with highs in the lower 60's and a rain chance of 35 to 40 per cent. Or so they say at this writing. I plan to arrive Thursday.

No one gets to up set.
The Country your in Goes highest.
Yours below if you wish.
If you don't have country visiting don't fly any.

The flag police will not get you.

However, immigration will want to see your registration in both countries.
Unless you Nexus and phone.
