05/16 - 05/18 - Friday Harbor Spring CBGT

I-5 North to Bellingham

EXIT 256A

As you exit onto 256A (Meridian North right lane) You will want to get into the LEFT turn lane at the bottom of this exit. Do not take the Bellis Fair ramp.

Making the left turn now places you on Meridian and you are heading towards the waterfront. Start easing over into the RIGHT lane.

There's 3 signals: McLeod, Birchwood & Squalicum Way. Turn RIGHT at the 3rd signal (Squalicum Way). Small sign says Waterfront>>>

Follow****Squalicum Way aka Roeder Avenue**approximately 2.5 miles until you come to Bellwether Way.

Turn right onto Bellwether Way. A very short one block, another right turn into the driveway for the boat launch area & parking for vehicle and attached trailer.

Once you're in the parking lot pull forward to the pay station which is on your left side. If you find that this lot is full, there's additional parking across the street (west of Redden Marine) in a graveled parking area.

Note: When on ****Squalicum Way***it veers to the left @ 1.5 miles & becomes Roeder Avenue. Then it's @ 1 mile to the right turn onto Bellwether Way.

Should you have an extra 'tag along' vehicle there is parking in the parking lot where Gate 9 is located. This parking lot is just north of the boat launch area and can only be entered off of Roeder Avenue.

For long term parking of tow vehicle & trailer (over five days) go to the Port of Bellingham Harbor Office located at 722 Coho Way. Their phone number is 360-676-2542. A parking permit is also required for a 'tag along' vehicle.

One launch & parking is $5.00.

... some folks head out for shrimping/fishing...
I've never shrimped, nor have I fished up north in that area, so I'd like to talk with some people planning on doing one or the other. Could someone that's planning on doing either shrimping or fishing PM me so I can find you and chat about it while in FH?

Thanks.

OK, Patty is relieved! Daydream is back from LUSR! She was not quite talked into two nights on Crabby Lou, although she now acknowledges two can overnight comfortably on a 16 Angler! We'll leave for Birch Bay Thursday evening. Friday morning I HAVE to clean the boat up a bit (get the winter's algae off) and try to reinstall the Wallas. I figure the chances are 50-50 it will work when I am done...So not going to get in the water real early on Friday. I think as long was we get to Friday Harbor in the daylight Friday afternoon we'll be good. And having the big boat back means that keg of Snoqualmie beer will get there in style!

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

Oh, and a quick reminder: the C-Brats Group MMSI number is
036697831
Those with DSC can program it into their VHF radios, allowing group-members to broadcast a sort of "flotilla" hailing message. I've never gotten it to work, but I'm interested in testing it.
Also, my MMSI number is: 338031218

I'm planning to depart Edmonds at 1000 Friday with about three other Brats, and I guess we may pick up a couple others near Everett on the way.

Pat, Wallas? Come on now, get your priorities in order here. :beer then Wallas.

Robbi is right Pat. Just bring the beer and the Wallas. We'll down a couple of pints and then put the Wallas back in  :crook Roger

After a very nice email and invitation from Barry Daniel (Colobear on C-Cakes) my wife Lisa and I are looking forward to meeting all of the C-BRATS at the Friday Harbor gathering. Master Marine Services is setting us up with the new 23' Venture and we should arrive at the harbor around 2:00 pm on Saturday.

Anyone who would be interested in looking over the vessel and would like to "VENTURE" out for a ride after the potluck on Saturday just let me know. My Dory, Your C-Dory.

It looks like Caryn and I will be trailering first to Anacortes rather than going by water from Everett. So those of you who are part of the Edmonds C-Brat flotilla, don't worry about looking for C-Dancer out in front of the Everett Marina.

BTW Barry, make sure you save us a good spot. We'll probably be arriving between 5:00pm - 6:00pm on Friday.

We can't wait to see everybody!

I posted a little something over on Navagear about this gathering. Thanks to Ruth and Joe for permission to use one of their images!

I will be arriving by air about 10:30 am Friday . We may make a 1000 foot pass and get a picture of the C-Dorys at the dock. :photo Smile!

Small change of plans...instead of going to Birch Bay tonight, we are skipping Birch Bay and going directly from Fall City to Squalicum Harbor tomorrow. Daydream is washed, the worst of the winter's algae is off her now! Tomorrow is Austin's 17th birthday, and we are celebrating tonight. He is getting a pretty nifty gift (I can say that, because he doesn't read this site!), a 12 string guitar that he was coveting at the local shop - he was crestfallen when he learned it had been sold. The only thing he didn't know was, it was sold to his Mom and Dad! Anyway, the keg is in the fridge here, and we'll load it up and head out tomorrow a.m. Dreamer and all - I will be COUNTING on some help to get the damn Wallas installed and working at Friday Harbor!

Two Lucky Fish had about 9 months worth of weather and grime all over...but not anymore! I spent several hours scrubbing this morning. And just as I got to the wax part ("do not apply in direct sunlight"), the sun came out! I needed lunch anyway, so I took a break.

She ain't perfect, but at least I won't be ashamed to show her in public. :)

See you all tomorrow!

I am going to miss this gathering also. I have some acreage SW of Olympia next to Capitol Forest and gave a permit to a friend for some Maple on it. The access to it is through a neighbors property and they locked the gate, so I will have to go there in the morning and cut the lock, then will have to deal with them that afternoon. I was told I would have trouble with them when I bought the property.

It will be too nice of a weekend not to go out in the boat. Terri is not feeling too well, so I will get Ben Toland and we will go out Saturday. May make it as far north as Seattle.

Dave,

We will miss seeing you at FH. C-Dawg and Dreamer are getting a pretty early start. We should depart John Wayne Marina about 0800. Or as they say in the Air Force, Mickey's big hand is on the twelve and his little hand is on the eight.
See you all there.

Didn't think this would work, but it does. A bunch of us are about to start up the engines and head on through Deception Pass, See you in Friday Harbor shortly.
