05/16 - 05/18 - Friday Harbor Spring CBGT

Roger on Dreamer demanded sunny weather so, doing our best :) we have 72 degrees and sunny on Friday. I've done my part, Roger, the rest is up to you. Latest count is 50 brats signed up but some will be boatless so we'll see how many actually make it.

I'm not sure if everybody has been to Friday Harbor so for those who haven't been there: When you approach the marina you will see a breakwater with a customs port of entry directly ahead. To your right and angling out will be a second breakwater with a small kiosk on the end, that is breakwater "A". The marina entry is between the two breakwaters. Friday Harbor monitors 66A. Identify yourself as being with the C-Dory group and they will direct you to "H" dock. When you turn to enter between the two breakwaters "H" dock is dead ahead and connects to breakwater "A". "H" dock has 30' double bow in slips with shore power available. Our overflow area is the right side of "G" dock closest to the shore. "G" dock has the same slip arrangements.

C-Cakes will get there Thursday evening so we should have the C-Brats banner set up by the time people start arriving. Remember Dave on Anna Leigh will be available to do Vessel Safety checks and the Rev. Dave has said Neptune looks favorably on C-Brats so Christenings can also be done (with the proper greenery and libations to appease Neptune of course!).

We are really looking forward to this. Track Patti or me down and we'll have nametags and some info goodies for everybody.

See you all at Friday on Friday.

Barry,

Good job on the weather! Not sure how you did this, but Wow. We should be there before noon Friday. WA Marine forecast now shows 1-2' chop on the Straits.

We'll start loading up the boat tomorrow and hope the windlass will be ready by Thursday! Sleepy-C and JC Lately will be coming by way of Haro Strait, hoping to see some whales. I'm just hoping for some glassy water to keep my first mate comfortable. She's not quite ready for rough water.

See you all there...Roger & Janet

Hi All,

There is a group of boats (currently 3) that is departing from outside the Edmonds breakwater at 1000 on Friday the 16th, planning to hit the 1430-ish slack tide through Deception Pass. As these trips are always more fun with more participants, anybody else heading north from or past Edmonds is more than welcome to join in.

I don't believe we've settled on a VHF channel to monitor yet, but I'm always listening on 16.

Alec

Channel 68 is the official unofficial C-Brats channel in the PNW. Try that one first. The less traffic on 16 the better. Just make a call to anyone in the C-Pod.

Ah, good to know. I usually use 68 as my working channel anyway, but I'll setup a monitor there too.

Thanks!

Alec

Larry, I took the liberty of adding some labels to the docks on your photo. I can feel the anticipation building within the troops! Roger

Hey Alec,

Caryn and I are still trying to finalize our plans, i.e. boat from Everett or trailer to Anacortes. If we do decide to travel by water from Everett, we would love to join the group. What time do you think you'll be passing by the Everett Marina? As David mentioned, we'll be monitoring channel 68.

My guess would be around 1030-1100, depending on when we actually get underway.

This pains me tremendously but it is now apparent that I have to bail on this outing. I've spent the past many weekends working on a project in my back yard (retaining walls, patio, fencing, sod, garden etc) and I was hoping to have it done yesterday. Not even close. I put in a 10x12 paved patio over the weekend and decided to do a lovely herring bone pattern with the pavers. The net result is a lot of cutting on the edges and to do 3 edges took all day long yesterday.

So even though I've worked 10-12 hour days on this every weekend for the past 6 or so AND even though I've also worked on this 2-3 hours every evening for the past 5 weeks, I've still got to stay home next weekend and finish this damn project - it's so close, I can taste it. Once it's done, I'll reward myself with a boating trip. Maybe I can make Bellingham instead. (hope springs eternal)...

Rats! Sorry to hear you Roger and you Larry H. can't make it. :(

As far as an "official" schedule, that would assume this is an organized event, there's nothing official but the usual sequence of events goes something like this: Friday mid-morning/mid-afternoon boats arrive, meet, greet, gossip, ogle boats, a good time on the docks. Dinner at Downrigger's restaurant at 5:30, we'll pretty much have the place to ourselves I think. Everybody does their own thing after dinner. Saturday, more boats arrive, some folks head out for shrimping/fishing, others head out to explore the island: English Camp, american Camp, whale museum, Roche Harbor, etc. etc. Mopeds and cars available for rent. Dave on Anna Leigh and I will be doing CGAUX vessel safety exams that day. I will have menus and suggestions for breakfast and lunch places. Start gathering back on the dock around 3pm when a potluck will begin, potluck, christenings, more fun on the dock, folks do their own thing after the potluck, there's lots to do in town or just visit on the dock. Sunday, many people get together for farewell breakfasts and boats start to head out. most people have departed by 1-2 PM, start thinking about the Anacortes and Bellingham gatherings

Hey All
Was wondering if anyone could give me the directions to the Bellingham ramp? will be coming from the south up I-5. Should be in B-ham around 1pm Friday if anyone is intrested in having company on the run to Friday Harbour Thanks see ya all at FH

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend, and a grand one it will be!

Now if I can just concentrate here at work all week...

:cat

It is easier coming from the north, are you sure you don't want to go to Canada first and then come back down?

From the south, we take the Lakeway exit. Go right on to Lakeway (toward downtown). At the end of Lakeway, turn right on to Holly. Follow Holly all the way through downtown. Turn left on F Street, and then right on Roeder, which runs along the bay. You will come right to Squalicum Harbor (look for the Hotel Bellweather sign). Hope this helps. Google Maps might be helpful too...

I have found it easier to go all the way to the Guide Merridian , take a left and follow the truck route to the water front. No downtown driving and verry easy.

Sorry Pat, I'm with Roger on his directions....but of course Roger and I are country folk.....no city driving for us!

Spike, "Guide Meridan" can be a confusing direction (it was for me at first.) Take the Bellis Fair Mall / Meridian exit off northbound I-5. The exit divides; take the Meridian subexit and it should take you as per Roger's directions.
