You could safely leave the tow vehicle at Cornet Bay but it would get pricy...$10 a night. Bellingham is actually not bad for getting to the San Juans.
 
Peter - we'll be launching from Bellingham. It is just down around the southern end of Lummi Island and over the top of Sinclair and Cypress, then through Peavine Pass, through Harney Channel, under Crane Island, across San Juan channel, and you are there! Trace it out on your charts, it's a nice cruise, I estimate just under 30 miles!

I don't think there is any space available at Skyline Marina. I would not leave your rig at Washington Park, as there are a lot of car prowls in Anacortes, particularly in the area of the Forest Lands, etc. according to the weekly police blotter in the Anacortes American. OTOH before I moved to Anacortes I left my truck and trailer in the Cap Sante Marina parking lot (gravel) for several days at a time with no problems. It is not fenced or anything but it is very exposed to a major artery into town so the cops are probably in the area much more than they are in the residential/Forest areas.

On the third hand, there is a lot of anecdotal support for favoring Bellingham.

Thanks guys, I'll give it more thought. I would feel comfortable with asking Twin Bridges since we've had a relationship with them. That would be my first choice. Thanks for the tip Fred.

I guess Bellingham doesn't sound too far Pat, that's a good option as well.

Even though I never have stored "Sea Shift" at Twin Bridges, they have accomodated me (we arrived at a per day parking fee) in the past to park my truck and trailer on the gravel outside their fence and I then launched under the bridges.

However, since I'm not a "fan" of launching under the bridges, I've now consistently launched in Bellingham and I've found it to work out the best for me.

I would sure like to see the Port of Anacortes establish a protected boat launch similar to the Everett Boat Launch, which to me is a "class act!". Everett has several designated launch and retrieval lanes and is well patrolled by the port security and the Everett Police Dept. (Until that happens I'll just dream about it and continue up to Bellingham).
 
Yes, Everett and Bellingham are the cream of the crop as far as boat launches go...Everett is a bit far away for a weekend at Friday Harbor though.
 
I will be doing USCG Auxiliary VSC's at Friday Harbor for those that want a 2008 sticker. Barry (also in my flotilla and our fearless leader for this GTG) should also be certified as a vessel examiner by then. Anyone wanting a pre-exam list of the items that are checked please PM me and I will send you one by attachment.

40 boats signed up so far. I am sure a world record. Thanks Barry for putting this one together.

Hopefully, that won't be too late :wink: Fortunately, most all of the features listed above are also marked on one's GPS so the attentive captain will miss them.

Me thinks you intended to say will NOT miss them on the chart and WILL miss them on the water.

The trip out from Bellingham to Friday Harbor offers one of the best boating rides in the NW once you get across the often rough bay and in amongst the Islands. Charts and a compass or fancy electronics will get you there and you will have tested your skills since many of the islands look alike and there are few man made landmarks along the way. By bid summer you can find your way back in the evening by keeping the moon straight ahead.

Not sure whose vessel you are following there, but I'm thinkin' I'm not going to be following it...... :mrgreen: LOL
 
OK that may have been an over simplification. It is true though that with the understanding that you always need to avoid hard objects while boating, when you motor back to Bellingham from Friday harbor on summer evenings you will be heading rather directly toward the moon which rises over the city and Mt. Baker. :shock:
 
Wow! This one's coming up fast. If In Cahoots and Jesse James get signed up, we will have 43 boats! I'm going to have to get busy with Spring cleaning and reloading all the stuff I took off the boat last fall.

We will be coming over on the ferry Friday for the dinner but will be going back that night as we will be involved in the Anacortes Waterfront Festival that weekend. I'll be one of the Anacortes Yacht Club members giving rides on our boats to the public.

Looks like I will have to catch the 8:10 ferry to get home at a reasonable hour. We'll be coming over on the 2:45, arriving at 3:50, unless someone wants to give us a ride from Anacortes to Friday Harbor.
