05/14 - 05/16 - Friday Harbor

Stardust. My lil' old 16 was sitting on the breakwater for a couple of hours on Saturday, while I took advantage of the West Marine discounts.
I wasn't able to make it for the potluck as I live on the island and the wife was gone so I had animals (horses, dogs, cats) to take care of. Had a minor emergency with on horse so was on call most of the night.
The gathering was a large one. I am new to C-Dory and it was really nice to see all the boats out.
I took the boat up around Waldron and up to Sucia on Saturday and then on Sunday the wife called and asked me to pick her up in Anacortes.
On the way back to FH we saw a multitude on C-Dory's. Saw three or four coming through Peevine and another outside Fisherman's Bay and Upright Channel.
I wish there would have been a few more 16's as I have some questions on a few things. Plus I would have loved to get one of those handsome wood steering wheel centers. I am tired of picking up the plastic one every time I hit a wake.
Glad everyone enjoyed the island. It is a special place and I feel lucky to live here.

A huge thank you to Patti and Barry. We so appreciate all that you do to make the Friday Harbor gathering so great. Barry, your write up was spot on. What you said!
I covered the 120 nm home in just over 7 hours. It was a beautiful run, but I was a bit warn out at the end! Deception Pass was in full flush, just over 7 knots. It was flat, but the up welling was very impressive. I fought the ebb almost all the way home, but with no wind, there were only a few spots of rough water.

One of the highlights of the weekend for me, was having two adult male Killer Whales come out of the water 10 feet from the transom of C-Run, as I drifted off of Blakely Rocks, on Thursday. So very cool!

Thanks again to all who made the weekend special.

Robbi

Rob from Roy, (who purchased Joe and Ruth's 19' C-Dory) also assisted Mark/Meredith and me in transporting the "factory goodies" to the gathering. Many thanks to Chuck Lindell, Jeff and Scott who brought the "goodies" down to us in Bellingham as we were departing for Friday Harbor. The three "factory guys" said that they were in the end stages of the factory move and that C-Dorys would continue on the production line.

CRAZY FRAZEY AND HIS WONDER DOG!.........("johnf").

During the "trivia/prize contest", John Frazey (sp?), stood up and asked if we were 1/2 through the contest. After being assured that we were, he announced that he was going to entertain us with a "1/2 time show".

For the next 15-20 minutes he and his wonder dog, performed awesome and stunning tricks for a most appreciative C-Brat audience. Hopefully someone captured their performance with photos and will post them in the album!

Thank you Barry and Patti for a job well done!

I'm seconding (or is it "thirding"? :? ) what a fantastic weekend! Thanks to Barry and Patti for all their organizational work and dedication. This is one of our favorite ALL TIME events and FH holds a special place for Meredith and I, as we got engaged there! She was able to attend this year, and it will be a yearly no-miss for us! Hopefully, next year she won't be studying on Saturday. The weather, the location and above all, the people, make this a weekend not to be missed! Thanks to Rev. Dave for the blessing; M intends on preserving the greenery and I'll mount it somewhere on the boat, maybe above the door in a frame.

We got home without issue and safely crossed not one but two large wakes, one Crowley tug and one Foss, while en-route to Bellingham. No burrying the bow this time! Thanks to all who "assisted" at the FH docking. I promise we're gonna practice, practice....practice. I posted the few pics I took in our album. I was too busy socializing and laughing to take many. I did get some nice ones of Karl & Amy and their daughters on the kayaks.

Aloha M&M

Another great weekend, another great gathering. Thanks to Barry and Patti for putting on another fantastic shindig. I mentioned several times that one of my favorite moments is seeing all the C-Dories lined up on H dock while coming in. I think Fred also mentioned that it was because we're always one of the last to arrive :wink .

In any case, it was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Hopefully Caryn will be with me next year because I think FH is one of the highlights of the year.

One more rave. It was a great weekend start to finish - weather, friends, boats - just a great time. One more thanks to Barry and Patti.

Harvey on Sleepy C, Bob and Darlene York on Kingfisher and I headed through Cattle Pass together, then Harvey headed off to Sequim, us to PT. We tried to test the range of our radios. Results inconclusive.

Fine time all around.

It is indeed the same trailer we bought with Daydream in 2005. I no longer get Trailer Boats, can anybody provide either a link to this article, if it is online yet, or a PDF copy of it? Thanks!

Pat Anderson: Is your trailer the same one you have had since you bought it in 2005ish? Take a good look at the TRAILER BOATS June 2010 issue. A great, picture illustrated simple to follow 5 page article called "Rolling Stock."..... that all of us who have and use trailers should read. Great read. Glad to know you and Miss Patti made it back home OK.

The Friday Harbor CBGT did not disappoint !! It is always the highlight of the spring. Barry and Patti, you continue to do a bang-up job with this boating season kick-off gathering. We all sincerely thank you for all your efforts.

We had a super time visiting with our old friends and happily made some new ones!! Enjoyed our dinner Thursday night with Marilyn & Tom from Fla.(the new Traveler crew) and of course our dear friend Fred who steered us all into the "Bra Bar" for great Fish & Chips.

The potluck was a blast !! Shirley's home made, home grown cherry pie was yummy. And, Barry, that was an inspired idea to have us bring trivia ?s and prizes. What a kick. Loved the Dog and Pony show --- oh, maybe that was -- John? And, Roger and Cheryl, getting the kids involved was special.

After we left you all Sat. evening we took advantage of the lovely weather & having 4 wheels by taking a ride through the island --- saw many grazing deer and Ruth, I wonder if we saw the same fox. Ours had a white pom pom on the end its tail ! Pretty cute.

Sunday we did a bit of sleuthing on the drive back to Bend. Went to see if we could get a peek at Ruth and Joe's new R-Matey. Think we spied her all spiffed up with a big bonnet on ready for her parade up I-5 to Bellingham today. Buoyed by that success we sought out a look at Old Growth's creation and we think we might have seen a little something of that. One of our special pals might be able to confirm it. Always intrigue with the C-Brats !!!
Again, thank you all for being such a special group of friends to us.
Betsy and Bob

This was our first, and definitely, not last, CBGT. Kim and I had a great time meeting everyone and getting Kim Christine christened (Thank You Dave!). That was very special for us both and know that we will be safe on the water now.

Barry and Patti, a big kudos go to you both for organizing such a fun gathering. I know you put in lots of work. We also were fortunate to get our Vessel Safety Check completed with Barry's help, too.

Pat Anderson welcomed us to the "family" of C-Brats and it sure felt good. Everyone, and I mean, everyone was just so nice that we feel so fortunate to be involved with such a great group. We talked to a couple back at Bellingham that were prepping their huge Boston Whaler for the trip back to Idaho. They made the comment that everytime they see a group of C-Dory owners, the group is always having a wonderful time. We smiled and felt good that we are now a part of that family.

We look forward to many more get togethers with the Brats in the future and definitely will be back for Friday Harbor next year!

I disappeared for a while on Saturday at Friday Harbor, out with Richard Rodriguez and crew aboard Towline Marine Assist. Here are some of the pictures I took.

The potluck was wonderful, as usual. It was great touring other boats and getting new ideas for galley storage; that's my next big challenge!

On our way back to Anacortes Sunday (where Julia left her car), we stopped and had a little picnic on James Island. That was a nice little break. Quiet, and a nice pebble beach for the kids to play on. Then back to civilization!

Anyway, the crew of Two Lucky Fish really enjoyed the event, and appreciate all the work that went into putting it together.

Saturday Susan and I got bounced around on Hein bank with out a single bite. So it was really nice to get back to the dock early and enjoy the pot luck.
Tom, I MIGHT have a picture of you coming back in through Cattle Pass. It's a 22, but I couldn't tell which boat it was. I was aboard Towline when I took the picture at about...hmmm...1600?

Oh wait, this can't be your boat. No radar. Whose boat is this?

Wow gang...where do we begin! Thanks Barry & Patti and others for organizing again this most wonderful event!

Thanks David for your tireless safety checks for the group...much appreciated!

Thanks Joe & Ruth for putting up with Amy and I Friday morning...sure had fun talking!

Great food and even more importantly WONDERFUL people! Like others said good to see old and new faces...welcome to all the new ones! Sure feel like we've been to a few of these now in our 6th season. Still just as good as the first one!

Hope to see any of you soon anywhere!!!

Thanks for letting me practice with Teddi...she sure loved the meat for all the work she did at the half time, intermission show!

Safe boating to all!

John, Amy and Teddi

What else can be said...

To my eyes, this CBGT seemed like it had the most number of people attending. The potluck group was so large that all I could really hear were people at the ends yelling, "I can't hear you!" to Barry and other raffle gift presenters.

C-Brat rugrats were also in good numbers. I counted 7 + John Frazee :-)

A big thanks to Barry and Patti for organizing the event. As always it was a well organized, fun time.

Thank you Barry and Patti for organizing this trip.

An thanks to all of you that made Pat and I feel so welcome.

We had a great time. This was our first C-brat event but not our last.

I stayed in La Conner on Sun night wanting a slo leasurly trip when Tim in Two Luck Fish stopped and said hello. Thanks Tim I hope you did OK thru the locks by yourself.

Neil n Pat

Nice to see you as well, Neil. I spent the night in La Conner too.

Yeah, I'm getting better at the locks. No trouble. Although I hate waiting for the large lock, the nice thing is that they always put small boats alongside larger ones in the large lock, so you've always got help from your neighbor; those big fancy boats don't want us little boats to leave marks! :-)

I'm so mixed up right now, I just can't remember who was showing off the iPad and nav software. Whoever it was, THANKS for the cool demo.

Ah, the iPad. I knew better than get within 20 feet of him and his box of electronic addiction, and all of a sudden he was next to me and I got sight of the Canadian charts, and it was downhill since then, except I still can't figure for sure why I need one. There isn't an iPad in my hand right now, but I am experiencing weakness of resolve, and it might be a matter of time.

Those are definitely a sell-itself machine.

Guess, however reluctantly, I need to thank Bob for bringing it into our midst.
