05/14 - 05/16 - Friday Harbor

I concur with Tim. We have to go through Deception virtually every time we go North or West. BTW Swinomish channel (the alternate) is getting very silted both at the North and SW Ends. We measured 5 ft at a +1 tide state at the Dugwalla entrance a couple of weeks back and that was dead on the marker line.

Last Thursday was a classic example of what Tim was saying.

For the skiers amongst you, imagine a field of very large moving moguls with whirlpools as a bonus.

The influence of the pass extends nearly a mile offshore on a major ebb, so the best bet is usually to hang a shrp right and go inside Deception Island. Less kelp and rocks that way.

90% of the time its simply a fun ride and your biggest problem is some dufus in a large Chlorox bottle leaving a big wake which reflects off the walls and adds to the chop.

Since we are uncertain as to whether we will re-up for Hilton Harbor this summer, not sure how we will be coming! An Everett launch may make more sense for us than a Bellingham launch, but I'm sure Patty aka SWMBO will figure it all out and I will just follow orders...but one way or another, we will be there!

I still have all the paper products and the banner left from the Boat Show gathering. Barry, when ya comming over this way to pick it all up???????

An update. I just spoke with Jeremy Talbot, the Asst. Harbormaster at Friday Harbor. We are all set. The Grady White folks rescheduled for September so we will have our usual area to ourselves. We have 40 boats signed up now! We will be in the same place as before, we have the little "party" float. Remember that we will not have any factory give-aways this year so to make the trivia contest worthwhile I am asking folks to bring something as a trivia prize. It does not have to be new or expensive, just in good shape and maybe something you'd be happy to win. And...as an incentive, the donator gets to ask the trivia question for their prize. I'm looking forward to some really interesting prizes and questions, for example Pat Anderson could donate a sixpack of famous Snoqualmie Falls beer and to win it one might answer such a simple question as: What is the average number of dolphins in a Wild Blue posting picture? Or, how many dolphins does it take before they become the famous "fricky dicky" dolphins? And, another memory jogger, those of you who have been there before may recall that tables are in short supply for the potluck so please consider bringing one along. Finally, David McKibben (Anna Leigh) and I will be doing vessel safety checks and it would be really helpful if we had some idea beforehand of how many folks would like them done. So if you definitely or even maybe would like one please either post it on this thread or send me a PM. That way we will be sure to have enough stickers, etc. with us.

Put me in for an inspection, puleeez.

And I'm still looking for that small table. I KNOW it's somewhere....just exactly where I can't remember and neither does M.

Looking forward to getting the boat salty! I'll bring something for a give-a-way, but someone else will have to come up with a good question; my "newbie" status doesn't allow me to challenge anyone with trivia.

Barry,

We'll be needing an inspection too. Hope the Coasties aren't hiding outside the harbor doing their own inspections (again!).
Hope to see you on Opening Day!

I will try for a inspection again this year ,I either miss out while fishing or dont have one item.

I will bring a gift of a fishing nature, maybe some quality releases or I will pour some downrigger balls.

In Cahoots is in need of a safety inspection and I need to buy some ' in code' flares before we get on the water. Also, I'm not sure that my light pole can be seen in 360 degrees now that I bought Ruth and Joe's Alaskan dingy and its on top. Also, I'm not sure if a bag of potatoes is coast guard approved as balast! Well Barry, its not going to be easy to shape up 'In Cahoots', but please give it your best. We are excited to get on the water again. We had an excellent salmon trip to the Columbia and as Ruth and Joe said, "how can a fish get through all those boats", well 'In Cahoots" stoped some of them and they are in the freezer. See you all soon. Roger and Cheryl

We'll be coming with our 25' cruiser....aka: wood duck. Please sign us up for a safety inspection. Anxious to see everyone at Friday Harbor.

Kim and I are excited to be coming up to christen the Kim Christine, even has the name on now! Please sign us up for an inspection, too. Just got the 2" memory foam mattress topper and will have some nice comfort in v berth. We will spend the night May 7 shrimping Lopez. Too bad the season is so short up there, 7 days in May. Not open for CBGT weekend, oh well, there's always lings.

Barry,

SleepyC :moon will be there ready for, and needing, an inspection unless Roger's (Dreamer) friends catch us prior to arrival. We do have a small table to bring and will have a trivia prize.

Thanks for all your efforts in making this a great weekend.

Harvey
